About

Farruquito in Concert

In 1992, prodigious Farruquito caught global attention when he performed alongside his virtuosic, flamenco-dancing grandfather, Farruco, at Barcelona's Paralympic Games. Now an eminent act himself, Farruquito is a sight to behold: the Sevilla-born dancer incorporates the accented Gypsy-style dramatism of his family's tradition.

His body postures tell stories filled with gut-wrenching emotion — tales of complex human relationships or wild animals in nature (an improvisational style his late grandfather created). When you see a live performance by Farruquito, expect an intense and gripping reverie of flamenco fierceness.

Farruquito Background

Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya, better known as Farruquito, is heir to Spain's most venerated Gypsy flamenco dynasties. His dancing mother famously goes by La Farruca and his grandfather was El Farruco, widely considered one of the greatest flamenco dancers of the 20th century.

Farruquito, born in 1982 in Sevilla, Andalucía, spent his entire life immersed in the art of flamenco. He made his dancing debut at age 4 in a Broadway show, ‘Flamenco Puro,' alongside his famous family. "That's when I fell in love with flamenco," he told The New York Times in 2014; the publication called him "the greatest flamenco dancer of this new century."

By age 8, Farruquito was regularly performing his craft in the capital, Madrid. While still a youth, he also appeared in the 1995 Carlos Saura-directed documentary, ‘Flamenco,' which chronicled the centuries-old art form and its prominent players throughout history, thus launching Farruquito into stardom.

In 2014, he came to the stage with Improvisao, a dance show exhibiting flamenco's ancient, freestyle approach. A few years later, he took the show abroad and performed it as part of New York's Flamenco Festival.

The authenticity of the dance moves, music, and voices not only captivate your senses for the impressive skills each performer delivers but you get exposed to one of the richest cultural expressions in the world in it's original form. Who doesn't love Flamenco?

    Flamenco extrodinaire

    by K. M. on 2/27/19Town Hall - New York

This was an amazing experience seeing Flamenco by masters, probably the best in the world. We have experienced Flamenco in Spain,, in Seville, Granada, many places. But this truly was an extrodinary performance. Unfortunately, seating in Town Hall is not optimal - sight lines were blocked as seats do not descend enough.

    A brilliant dancer and percussionist

    by M. M. on 2/25/19Town Hall - New York

Anyone who knows anything about flamenco knows Farruquito is one of the most brilliant flamenco dancers working today. By definition, he's also a great percussionist--whether the instrument is his heels on the floor, his fingers snapping or an actual drum set. At Town Hall, he was supported by a group of other top-flight flamenco artists, including Gemma Moneo. They are all consummate artists. This is show not to be missed!

    Amazing!!

by J.R.M. on 2/25/19Town Hall - New York

Farruquito was more than amazing! And we managed to get front row seats! The entire troupe was incredible. Each individual performer was so talented in their own right. The singers, musicians and dancers gave their all that the audience was involved in the high energy. My husband and I both felt the same. The emotionally charged dances brought us to tears, laughter, and almost out of breath!! Exhilarating!! And Faruquito's 6 year old son debuted in this performance, emulating his dad's journey from 5 years old himself, making the father/son duo so special! Simply Fantastic show! Thank you Ticket Master and Towne Hall for a marvelous date night!
