About

We knew a little about her life story the first time we ever heard her sing. Long before we learned the details, laid out in her best-selling autobiography turned top-rated Lifetime movie Life is Not a Fairy Tale, we felt her pain and triumph in every note she sang. Whether it was the standards and pop songs that she rode to the winner's circle on the third season of American Idol or the self-crafted emotionally wrought modern R&B off her latest chart topping record Side Effects of You, North Carolina born singer is unable to produce a moment that isn't searingly honest. This becomes imminently clear in her concerts—the star of the Tony award winning The Color Purple and the current musical After Midnight prefers to think of them as "shows," because they have the emotional arc of a Broadway show. And it's a show with plenty of hits, from her inspirational smash debut "I Believe," to the hard-won straight-from-the-streets feminism of 2013's "Without Me." Fantasia has set herself apart by allowing her life experiences to inform her music in unique and surprising ways. That includes the pain for sure, but also her successes, be they on Broadway or touring internationally as either headliner or sharing the bill with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Put simply, Fantasia is the truth, and we are all witnesses.

    Fantasia! Fantasia! Fantasia!

by GABBIE12 on 9/3/12BJCC Concert Hall - Birmingham

Joe was really good. I wasn't really familiar with his music, but that did not interfere with the fact that he gave a great performance and his voice was like butter. He was very interactive with the audience, aka, the ladies during the entire performance. I really enjoyed Joe. This is the second Fantasia concert I've attended. This one is just as good as the first one I attended. Just awesome! I would recommend that when she comes to your city, that you purchase a ticket ASAP! IT'S WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!! Her voice is crystal clear and it sounds just as good as it does on the recording. Nothing but the truth!!! She seems very transparent when she hits the stage! One of the best live performers in the industry!

    Fantasia

    by Phillymoe1 on 8/15/12Dell East - Philadelphia

I am not a fan of Fantasia but went to concert featuring her Raheem Devaughn and Avant. I had no expectation for Fantasia. I was surprised at her voice. She can really sing however as far as the performance she spent 80% of the night in the audience and those sitting further back could not see her. The camera could not even see her. So although we heard her voice we could not actually see HER!!!. I could have just popped in a CD and listened to it for what it's worth. Would not go see her again if that was the case. I was not disappointed with Raheem and Avant though. Both guys should have had more time. They were far better than Fantasia. She shouldn't be the headliner.

    Raheem DeVaughn

    by Phillymoe1 on 8/15/12Dell East - Philadelphia

I am a big fan of Raheem Devaughn. Although the show was for Fantansia my wife and I really went to see Raheem. I was very pleased with his performance my only wish was that he had more time for his set. He was by far the best performer of the night. He was engaging with the crowd and he kept the show going. His rendition of Adore by Prince was awesome. Would like to see him again but hopefully, he would be the headliner so he can have more time.

    Freedom to Choose/Fantasia

    by SugarRay1 on 7/24/12BI-LO Center - Greenville

From beginning to end this concert rocked the house. Fantasia is the people's performer. Giving the crowd her very best and backed up by a group of singers that had her back. But by far and in large this was Fantasia's best show. From the first note to the last she sang her heart out. I'm going to the Freedom To Choose after A Night of Truth After Party with Joe and Fantasia on 8/31/2012 at The Venue in Birmingham, AL. The genuineness of her performance kept the audiences attention. Her vocalizing mesmerized us and kept the show moving. She has the ability to connect with the audience, whic made this an unforgettable event. Her voice is beautiful. Fantasia had the crowd dancing. She will be in Birmingham, AL on 8/31/2012 for Labor Day Weekend Classic. I can't wait to see her in Birmingham, AL.

    PERFORMANCES GREAT-SOUND SYSTEM TERRIBLE

by mRsB2010 on 7/24/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

I ejnoyed the show however you can tell that the first two performers (Joe and George Wilborn) were frustrated with the set up of the sound mostly. The opening band's (Cameo's Band) set was too long...a song that was suppose to be 4 minutes but they stretched it to 10. I began to get bored with it.

    Totally Awesome Experience

by gloryglory on 7/23/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

This was my first time witnessing a live performance by Fantasia... Let me just say that the live experience was well worth the wait... Fantasia is truly an amazing, transformative performer with very powerful vocals to boot. (She can really sing y'all). What is more amazing is that she gave her band a chance to showcase their talents as well (particularly her background singers). This is a rarity for many established acts. I am not sure whether other audience members would acknowledge this but there was a operatic flow to Fantasia's show... from the early music that she grew up listening to or songs that touched your soul or up-tempo dance themes or a call to worship song... her show embodied all these themes and more. This was truly an awesome experience... The opening acts performed well to be sure but Fantasia really put the finishing touch on a well spent evening of good music and humor.

Fantasia, Joe, and George Willborn put on a show!!

by Bert112 on 7/23/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

The sound sucked at first. Joe was getting very pissed about it and had to tell them about it more than once. The view was great.

    sound system sucked!!!

by LeeandDee on 7/22/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

The shows from all performers were awesome but for some reason, Florence Civic Center could not not get the sound together. Joe tried his best to over look it. He had to apologize to the audience for the suck system. They were still doing mic check after 8 before the show started. Then Joe almost tripped on stage because they left something up there. Finally when Fantasia came out, we waited 10+ mins so they could fix the sound system. Florence really needs to get that system on point. I drove 2 hours from Jacksonville, NC to see the show and the performers gave a really good show despite the sound hiccup!

    Fantasia, Joe and George

by Anonymous on 7/22/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

First, we had to wait to get into the facility (after 7:00 p.m.) although the show was supposed to start at 8:00 p.m., and it was hot and humid outside. Do you know how that feels when you are clean and then with you better half. First impressions are lasting impressions, and this was my first visit to Florence Civic Center. Second, the folks handling the sound did a terible job. All of the sound and stage equipment should have been tested and ready before the public arrived. The stage changes should have flowed like clock work. There were delays and unprofessionalism displayed on the stage. I thought I was at a neighborhood block party. The sound was terrible for Joe's performance, and he even said so himself to the audience. We (the consumer) were shorted some good singing because of backfeed, humming, and everything else going wrong with the sound. Third, the MC who introduced the artists was terrible. Was he playing music from his IPOD? He was absolutely BOOTY! His coordination of the music and his dialoge with the crowd was out of sync and amateur, to say the least. Four, the artists were outstanding! If it wasn't for their talent this enitre show would have been a bad experience. I can't say how much I enjoyed their performances. I wish Joe would have had his band but he did very well anyway. Fantasia is truly a star! Wow! I hope they will both come again. Finally, I did enjoy myself, but please pay attention to the shortfalls I pointed out because they can be corrected. Professionalism is the key. The artists kept it professional, so make sure those responsible for stage productions do the same. As a note, KUDOs to security, and turn the A/C up. Security was very helpful.

by TrueLadi28 on 7/22/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

Omg, this show was amazing. Joe looked soooo good & although they was messing up the sound he still gave one helluva show. George Wilborn was funny as all get out. Last & not least FANTASIA...My Lawd my Lawd they don't give my girl the credit she deserves! Tasia SHOWED OUT and kept the crowd on their feet. I had to take my shoes off and get down when she did her reindition of Get up/Overnight Scenario. As long as I'm able I will always spend money to see Fantasia b/c she gives you your money worth and then some! #teamtasia all day babe!!

    Really????? Florence???? Really????

by MusicLoverCritic12 on 7/21/12Florence Civic Center - Florence

It's embarassing to be a native of South Carolina and to have Fantasia, Joe, Cameo's Band and George Wilburn come to Florence and the civic center not have their sound or lighting together. I felt totally embarassed for Joe who looked extremely handsome on stage but did not have a good sound source until mid-way through his set. Had I been him, I probably would have told the sound man to cut the track and get my music together before I sang another note! Through it all he managed to pull off an outstanding show and if he did not come back to Flo City I would not blame him! I wouldn't be surprised if George Wilburn did not have some jokes about coming to Flo town on the radio on Monday as well. For them not to give him theme music to come out was ridiculous!!! As for Cameo's Band, all I can say is that ya'll could have stayed home with them quartet suits and your bass player that only knows how to play 5 notes and the keyboard player who thinks sixteenth notes show you are a real musician...smh... And last but not least Fantasia...all I can say is I love the band!!! The format is hott!

    Disappointed.

by Vettie128 on 7/17/12Dell Music Center - Philadelphia

I was too disappointed with the Fantasia show. She spent more time in the audiance then on stage. I couldnt see her. She was mixed in with the crowd. The camara man couldnt even see her. So I could've even view her on the screen. She sounded good, but I couldve watched on TV for that. Avant was really good he was best of the Night. I was surpised that he had the 1st set. Shortest time. I couldnt went for him longer.

    Fantasia and Raheem Devaughn

by Niecy1223 on 7/16/12Dell Music Center - Philadelphia

I thought Raheem Devaughn put on an excellent show I will definitely attend another one of his concerts.. I was not familiar with his music but I really enjoyed it.. I liked Avants performance as well.. However, I really bought the tickets to see Fantasia and I have to say I was ver disappointed with her performance.. She stayed in the crowd the whole time singing songs that were just ok... She should have been on stage .. Even though I had good seats I was not pushing through a crowd to see her.. I left a little early because I was so mad... I really thought she would be better than that ,, She act like she was at a block party... I would never go see her again,,, RAHEEM DEVAUGHN (to me ) Stole the show.

    Issues

by Butta33 on 7/16/12Dell Music Center - Philadelphia

My first issue is with the Dell, they made us stand outside until 6:45 instead of being able to come inside and use the consession stands, restrooms, and get comfortable before the show- then had the neve to start the concert when people were still coming in. (HORRIBLE- WHY NOT OPEN THE DOORS AND LET US IN) Avant and Raheem DeVaughn were good but what happend to the mike with Raheem at the end as he was doing the best part? :( Fantasia in her effort to engage the crowd, only gave a good show to the front. She could not even see the amount of people that left due to dissatisfaction. We could have listened to her at home- we did not need to come out and pay money to hear her but not see her perform. Very, Very, Very disappointed! Love what she tries to do, but she forgot the entire audience except the front. The audience had to tell her to get back on stage and then it was what two songs left. Disappointed! Lastly, performers give thanks to God and the whole religious aspect but we did not go to church, we went to a concert. In order not to offend a large number of people, keep the concert geared towards songs. If we wanted to go to a religious concert or to church, we would have paid to do so but that is NOT what I paid for because that would never be what I want.

Raheem DeVaughn is a GREAT performer!

by Britt215 on 7/16/12Dell Music Center - Philadelphia

Although Fantasia is the headlining performer, Raheem STOLE the show! He was so animated, focused, and dedicated to giving 110% percent. He even walked through the audience a few times! He's definitely putting on a show for the ladies. Sang all of his hits PLUS some old school r&b. I'd go back again and again!

    Please stay on stage

by Queendatsy on 7/15/12Del East - Phila

I thought the line up was backwards Avant should have been the headliner. Fantasia needs to stay on stage more. It's great that she wants to interact with her fans. But if you were not in the front then forget about it. I watched more insurance advertisements on the screen than her. Raheem could have stayed the middle and Fantasia should have been first!
