About

Ooh la la! Fancy for your family!

From the tip-top of her twinkly tiara down to her sparkly slippers, Nancy’s eager to steal the spotlight in her first dance recital. But when someone else gets picked to be the prima ballerina (that’s a fancy word for star of the show) Nancy is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Through practicing kindness, Nancy must become a musical hero by finding the fancy flair in her new role. Adapted from the bestselling book series, this show is full of funny, frilly ballet ballads.

Cute story, great enthusiastic actors, perfect length. My granddaughter was thrilled to meet the actors at the end of the play!

    OMG!!! AAAAMAZING

by Kaneal73 on 7/31/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was one of the best children's shows that I have taken my girls to see. The moral of the story was woven throughout. The music was great. The characters made the kids feel that they were speaking directly to them. My 6 year old had a smile on her face for the entire show. Even my 9yr old, who is "too cool" to show she likes children's plays, said that this was great and she would see it again. Every actor performed well. 5 star for sure!

Great for 3 or 4 year olds!

by LouLou18 on 7/29/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Good show. Broadway Playhouse is a favorite of ours.... Never a bad seat in the quaint theater. Show is overpriced for it's run-time and quality. My 3-year-old loved it, 7-year-old enjoyed it and my 6-year-old son only liked the second half. Too much squealing for my husband, "if there had been an intermission, I'd have left." My thoughts are it was geared towards little girls and go for that reason. I don't think it was a good value for my dollar.

    Fancy and perfect

by Fancymomma on 7/28/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I took my daughter for her birthday to fancy Nancy with my son. Both of my kids loved it. My son wants to go see it again. He was nervous about going but was glad he did. My daughter loved everything about it the dancing, singing, the costume and the funny jokes and gestures they made. Thank you for the beautiful memories.

    Adorably delightful

by ncyb on 7/28/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This show has found its target audience and knows just how to entertain it. At 90 minutes the show is just long enough without losing anyone and all members large and small walked out with huge grins on their faces. Then the cast members took time to sign autographs and pose for pictures with each child patient enough to stand in line. the show itself moves along with lots of music and dance numbers and just enough sly humor to engage the adults as well. And the finale is a stunner.

    Skip this production!

by GrandmaCarol233 on 7/28/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was a very disappointing, low budget production. The costumes and limited set were also low bugdet and dull. The script was poor, boring, and hard to follow. I have taken my children to countless children's plays, performances, and shows and this was by far the worst production we have attended. It was a complete waste of money and I do not recommend seeing it. I also want to mention that the theater lobby smelled like the restroom. The children's theater at the Marriott Lincolnshire has far superior performances for children with excellent costumes, sets, and scripts, and the tickets are half the price. I'm still angry and would like my money back for the Fancy Nancy tickets.

A six years old first play experience

by Anonymous on 7/27/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

My wife and I took our daughter to see fancy nancy. She is familiar with the books so we thought it would be fun. Daughter was capitivated, great audience interaction. I would recommend to any 3-9 year old who likes the fancy nancy books.

I took my grand- daughters 8 years old and 6 years old, They enjoyed it! I felt the length of the performance was perfect! We had a great time! My only complaint was the baby sitting behind us.. Distracting ...!

I didn't like the play very much. I actors talked to fast, it was a little hard to understand sometimes.

    Screechy and dull

by UptownGrandfather on 7/19/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Over the years, I've heard Emerald City Theatre praised high and low as the best children's theatre in Chicago. Based on "Fancy Nancy," this reputation is not valid. Our granddaughter was bored more often than not (she liked the ballet a lot) and I could see why. I found it screechy and irritating. The diction was atrocious. The songs too long and too complicated for young children. (And, really, what does a tea party have to do with anything?) Overall, I was delighted when the hour was up. This reminded me of a college production of a children's show as performed by student actors. Very disappointing. Also...why were the ushers reseating people after the show had started? Annoying.

    Great message

by Treadmomma on 7/19/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Darling show with a great message for children of all ages. Teaches about being happy for others even when you're disappointed, how to be a friend, making the best of a situation, and that you don't need "things" to be fancy and special. Very interactive. My 4 year old really enjoyed it and loved getting autographs from the cast afterwards.

My only suggestion, is that sometimes the voices were a bit shrill, and hard to understand. Sometimes talking too fast for younger children. Good length of time for children.
