About

Southern California punks Face to Face formed in 1991, originally comprised of singer/guitarist Trever Keith, drummer Rob Kurth, and bassist Matt Riddle. Debuting early the following year on the Dr. Strange label with Don't Turn Away, the trio was quickly snapped up by Fat Wreck Chords, which reissued the LP soon after. Adding second guitarist Chad Yaro, Face to Face toured relentlessly in the months to follow, recording a series of singles and compilation tracks collected in 1994 as Over It. When the song "Disconnected" became a local hit thanks to steady airplay on Los Angeles station KROQ, the group's profile grew considerably, and 1995's Big Choice sold in excess of 100,000 copies. In the wake of Riddle's exit, bassist Scott Shiflett signed on for Face to Face's major-label debut, a self-titled release issued on A&M in 1996. The adventurous Ignorance Is Bliss followed in mid-1999 on the Beyond label, featuring new drummer Pete Parada.

The following year saw Face to Face returning to their core sound with Reactionary, released on the band's own label, Lady Luck Records, through BMG-distributed Beyond. Through a promotion with MP3.com, Face to Face allowed fans to shape the set list for Reactionary by downloading snippets of the songs and voting which ones should make it onto the album. Nearly two million votes were received during a six-week period. Reactionary was released on June 20, 2000. The cover album Standards & Practices, which featured the band's own rendition of songs by the Smiths, the Pogues, Fugazi, the Jam, and others, was issued on Vagrant in early 2001. That year also saw Keith and Shiflett join Viva Death, which released its eponymous debut in September 2002. Meanwhile, Face to Face had joined the Dropkick Murphys for a split EP, and How to Ruin Everything, the band's sixth studio album, had appeared in March 2002.

In fall 2003, Face to Face disbanded after 13 years and six albums. Two years later, the retrospective Shoot the Moon: The Essential Collection was released on Keith's Antagonist Records. ~Jason Ankeny, AllMusic

    Great Show, but Terrible Acoustics

by SocialDean on 5/22/11Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

Face to Face was great. They played all their big hits and 3-4 of the songs off their new album. Unfortunately the sound system at Starland Ballroom was once again horrible. All you can hear is just noise - you couldn't really differentiate any of the instruments. I know pretty much every Face to Face song by heart, yet it was hard to pick up on some of them because everything was so overblown. Facet to Face was great and Strung Out was pretty good too, they had a lot of energy. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 stars was because of Starland Ballroom, not the bands.

Such an amazing show! I was up in the front row the entire time and it was great to see Face to Face again. I have seen them many times and this was definitely one of my favorite shows. The set list was great and it was obvious that the crowd was very excited to see this band after their hiatus. All in all it was an awesome time and I can't wait to see them again!

Bands were awesome, venue is so so.

by eelohmann on 5/20/11Best Buy Theater - New York

The bands were amazing, Strung Out was great as usual and Face to Face was super amazing, but the venue is ehh. They make men check bags the same size as women's purses which is a way for the venue to make money and the cheap beer is $7 which is outrageous. Over all though it was a good night.

    Amazing Punk Rock

by neturbox on 5/16/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

That was one of (if not "THE") most amazing punk show I have ever beared witness to. I unfortunately missed the first two openers, but I heard from friends that they were pretty good. Strung Out was absolutely amazing! They played all the favorites, mixed things up a bit and even hit on some things that I've never heard them play in Boston. The crowd was amped! It was nice to have them be outside of the "headliner" status for once. I love them as a headliner, but when you have time to calm down between your set and the actual headliner, you find more time to tend to your fans! The guys were outside, at the merch stand and in the crowd ready to hang and shoot the shit with their fans. Face to Face... what can I say other than "Epic"! I've never got to see them before as they hadn't been touring or writing music for a long time now. They came out so hard that the entire crowd was in awe. The new tunes were savage, the old tunes with awesome and the overall energy and vibe of the show was just incredible.

    Paradise Rock Club super uptight

by preslie on 5/16/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I love the bands and was super excited to be there but I was kicked out for getting on the stage one time before Face to Face even played. I am a 30 year old cute mother of 4 ~ I usually get vip access not kicked out for rocking out at a punk show! I have been to countless shows in the west but this was my first on the east coast & as far as fun energy, it blew. There were maybe 50 people there... I was expecting more from the Boston scene (which is apparently non-existent)

Face to Face w/ Strung Out Deliver Epic Show

    by fcktcktmstr2 on 5/10/11Majestic Theatre - Detroit

Face to Face with Strung Out and the Darlings at the Majestic in Detroit on May 8 was one of the best punk rock shows I've been too. The Darlings were one of the best opening acts I've seen and Strung Out delivered an unforgettable performance. Face to Face did not disappoint either, proving they are still one of the best bands in punk.

One of the best punk rock bands EVER!!

by Weaslehead on 7/18/10House of Blues Boston - Boston

First off, the picture next to the band's name on the top of this page is Laurie Sargent's Boston based Face to Face band from the 80's you sill bastards... Anyway, this show was amazing. They played what was expected to be played and through in a song from "Ignorance is Bliss", an album they have said they will never touch LIVE again.. hence why I posted that particular song on the video link. Their is not much to say about this band, they are fantastic. Trever Keith is a punk rock singer... who can actually sing. I've seen them twice since and will see them again this weekend, I can never get sick of this band.

    Best Live Band In History!!!!

by Hellix on 9/24/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

Face to Face has proven time and time again, that they are the BEST live band that has ever walked the planet. Every song sounds better than it did on the albums. The energy is always ramped up and in high supply. This show was about us fans. They played all the hits, kept it old school. They hinted at new stuff coming out for the first time in forever, but they kept the set list filled with all of the old classics. By far, the best show I have seen in a decade, FACE to Face is truly the best live band anywhere on the planet!!!!

    One more off my list

by Someoldpunk on 9/24/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

There are several old-school punk bands I swore to see live one more time before I die and Face to Face was near the top of the list. So far this year I managed to cross off Rancid, Pennywise, Social Distortion, & 7-Seconds. They were all great and Face to Face did not disappoint either. The set-list was great, every hit was covered and they put so much energy into the show you would think they were 20 years younger. I cant believe they still sound that good.

    Face to Face was amazing.

    by vmc2009 on 9/23/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

Sound was not good for opening bands. Seemed better when headliner played but maybe it was just because I was more familiar with them. Kinda crappy that you can't see band when standing on the balcony. Ceiling just low enough to only see their feet.

    What can I say?

by noonshadow on 9/21/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

Even with a 4-5 year break Face to Face still proves to be one of the best punk shows around.
