EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY IN CONCERT:

Post-rockers Explosions in the Sky treat audiences to a blissed-out musical adventure any time they play their stunning instrumentals in concert. The group’s three guitarists gracefully pluck complex melodies and weave in gorgeous harmonies to lift listeners’ moods on each transcendent track. The rhythm section enhances the group’s dynamic focus, running the gamut between subtle orchestral rolls and earth-shaking marches on standout numbers like “Your Hand in Mine”, “Let Me Back In”, and “Disintegration Anxiety”. With their virtuosic musicianship, ambitious songwriting, and electric showmanship, Explosions in the Sky sweeps ticket buyers up and takes them on an impressionistic journey every time they perform.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Austin, TX post-rockers Breaker Morant were inspired to change their name to Explosions in the Sky after watching fireworks erupt overhead following a 1999 gig at a local radio station. Under the new moniker, Michael James (guitar/bass), Munaf Rayani (guitar), Mark Smith (guitar) and Chris Hrasky (drums) got right to work, making their debut the following year with the album How Strange, Innocence. Recognizing the cinematic qualities of the group’s emotionally charged instrumentals, film producer Brian Reitzell reached out to Explosions in the Sky to compose the soundtrack for the 2004 major motion picture Friday Night Lights, which gave the band more mainstream exposure. Over the years the group has become renowned for their impassioned live performances and stirring albums, including 2016’s critically-acclaimed album The Wilderness.

Fiurst time seeing this amazing band. They did a great job filling the huge space. Opening band Low were good too although the deep drum sound was making the light fixtures above me virbrate and was a distraction.

Explosions in the Sky is probably one of the greatest bands of our time, and their live show is no exception to that. Seeing them play in Radio City Music Hall was quite an experience. The sound was great, their dynamic quality was perfectly represented. If I could relive the show once a week for the rest of my life I would.

This was the most intense show I've ever been to. The band seamlessly weaved the songs together. There was never a dull moment.

    Words are not needed

by MisterJunior on 4/8/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

The first warm up was in interesting start to a great show: calming, different, and enjoyable. The second warm up was solid and fantastic. Their haunting and repetitious vocals overlaying a loud bass drum with unique guitar/bass/keys left me wanting more. But let's be honest, I really wanted to see the final band, the creme dela creme, Explosions in the Sky. Before this point, the music, seemingly purposefully, was lacking in body and loudness. EitS gladly fixed that problem very quickly. The entire room was filled with their powerful feelings through the gorgeous music blazing from their amps for a bit over an hour. Their impressive ways of melding songs that were not normally put together was impeccable, and their set list was tasteful, however I do wish I could have heard more. If you didn't go to this show, I'm sorry to hear, but you need to find a time you can see these guys live. It is a cut above; if only I could see it again.

    Disappointing

by ExplosionsInTheEars on 4/8/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

Ok, I realize that this was a tour to promote the new album, but because it hasn't officially been released yet, nobody knows the songs. How about you talk a little bit about the album, say what the songs are called, maybe even mention the album once? If not, play the older stuff that we know and love. I know I didn't buy the ticket to see them play the new songs that I don't know. Also, the sound guy didn't do a great job, as there was one point (I cant remember which song) that it was too loud and was just noise, not music. Your Hand In Mine was great, as was The Birth and the Death of the Day and Catastrophe and the Cure. Notice a trend here? Overall, I'm glad I went, but left disappointed.

    booring

by razzledazzleforever on 4/8/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

I don't know who the opening act was but my 5yr old brother plays more interesting piano, and he doesn't know how to play. The few explosions songs I knew were fun, but it was the first time I realized that everyone of their songs follows the same arc. So they really just know one song in a bunch of different keys. The most exciting part of the night was being inside Radio City Music Hall and that excitement faded after 10 mins. Take your money and go get a beer.

Explosions in the SKY took me out of this world!

by sommer11 on 4/8/11Radio City Music Hall - New York

I've been to so many concerts in my life but going to EITS was quite an unforgettable experience. They are an instrumental alternative band with no lyrics but they can take you away and if will take you some time to come back to earth. These guys are just so amazing live and I just can't put into words how their music has moved me in so many ways. There's not that many artist that would give you the freedom to put your own emotions in the play and connect with their music. happy or sad - every feeling will be expressed through their tunes. Will definitely see their show again! Seeing it at Radio City Music Hall was the best experience ever and it was my first time there!

Extremely disappointed...not only did they only play for roughly 90minutes but they made it extremely clear that they were not going to come out for an encore. I had been looking forward to the show for quite a while. They played good but 22 dollars for barely 90 minutes was not worth it at all.

One of the best concerts I've been too -- and this one was without words! The Octopus Project was a phenomenal opener, and got us hyped up for EITS. Whew. Excellent, excellent, phenomenal live.

    Explosions in my head!

    by Robocop33 on 4/6/11The National - Richmond

True to there album in terms of sound and very well done overall. Would have preferred more melodic tones and fewer moments of pure noise that is in all honesty hard to take. Overall the music is tension and release, you feel as though you are on a journey... western and underwater with explosions in between.
