Erykah Badu is a powerful creative force who transcends music, film, and fashion. She is not only renowned for her songwriting, singing, and production skills; she is also celebrated for her capacity to heal, promote female wellness, challenge oppressive structures, and uphold the values of her Afrocentric and Black Feminist roots. Her imaginative blend of soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz, and gospel has earned her multiple awards and praise since the release of her debut album, Baduizm (1997), continuing through her fifth release, New Amerykah Part Two: Return Of The Ankh (2010), plus every mixtape, soundtrack, single, video, and musical collaboration in between.
Badu incorporates elements of spirituality and mysticism into her music. Drawing on a range of religious and philosophical traditions to explore the nature of existence and consciousness. In this way, her music can be seen as a form of resistance against dominant cultural narratives and a celebration of alternative ways of being.
The past few years, both during and after the COVID pandemic, have been transformative for the Dallas native. Self-described as the "laziest artist in the world," Badu has been anything but idle. "Our need will be the real creator," Plato famously predicted, and Badu, resurrected by the pandemic, teemed with enough innovative ideas to crown her the mother of invention. She established a livestream company for artists, revolutionized home concerts, and launched BaduWorldMarket.com--an online exchange to showcase her favorite artisans who share her values and aesthetics. Then, in October 2021, came Badubotron, her own radio station on Sonos Radio filled with psychedelic music that's inspired her life and career. Her entrepreneurial streak continues.
Most recently, Apple Trees, Badu's cannabis accessory brand, collaborated with Cookies, an international cannabis lifestyle brand, to introduce That Badu, a premium line of cannabis designed with women's wellness in mind. With this release, the green-eyed singer-songwriter, best known for her hit "Bag Lady," aims to use everything in her sac to dispel stigmas surrounding cannabis usage, particularly for moms and women, by fusing wellness, fashion, art, and culture.
Badu's fashion influence has always been a natural extension of her artistry, and the impact her unique personal style has had on the fashion industry is hard to ignore. From her appearances at Fashion Week and the MET Gala to her numerous magazine covers, most recently Vogue, Badu's eclectic fashion statements have made her a style icon like no other. In May 2023, luxury fashion brand Marni will launch a capsule collection, featuring 40 fun and playful Badu inspired pieces.
While her success as a musician propelled her into the spotlight, it is her creative genius, ethereal wisdom, invention, style, fearlessness, and pioneering spirit that have enabled her to remain relevant and revered for the past three decades. To fans and followers who may look to her as a leader and a source of inspiration, eagerly awaiting her next release, both in music and in the market, she says, "Don't follow me; chart your own path."

Erykah Badu put on such a great show for us - and it was even more special with it being in her hometown! Yasiin Bey was dope as well!! Great night!!
Erykah is such a real down to heart, funny afrocentric, confident and talented artist. I had an absolutely AMAZING time! What fun! and Yasin Bey was quite entertaining as well. I thoroughly enjoyed him. I can't think of the name opening act, but they were fun too. This was my very first E.B. concert, and she didn't disappoint not one bit.
I saw Ms. Badu in DC, Capital One Arena, the venue did not have the big screens to display show to attendees that needed some visual help. She was late, but it was the lack of adequately viewing the performance that made the evening very sour. Ms. Badu vocals were nice and Yasmin Bey was good as wellâŚjust wish couldâve been able to view performances without binoculars. Shame on Capital One Arena.
Most definitely an epic night! Itâs always an honor to see Durant perform on the stage. But to see Erykah!, the greatest of all time command the stage was truly worth every penny!
Ms. Badu rocked the house! She took us on a journey!
I was disappointed that she didnât sing her signature songs, she sung two verses of popular songs and she started really late then had to rush through her song because her time was short. Iâve seen her before and she was nowhere close to how she performed back in the day, it was not what I expected and I have seen her at her best.
It was a great crowd and enjoyed the show. I would go to see her again
Great show! She sounded amazing as usual. I didnât particularly like how the stage was set up. The screens were at an angle.if you were sitting on the sides in the balconies, you couldâve see. I wish we couldâve seen her on the screens. The newer seats are tight.,?Also, didnât like how long we had to wait for her to come outâŚbut thatâs just her.
Erykah Badu is honestly a whole experience. The lights, the smoke, the everything!!! She is a true artist.
I was disappointed that there were no big screens to visually see the concert. People kept standing up in front of us which made it impossible to fully enjoy. I purchased 4 tickets in a good section, so I thought!! We ended up leaving the concert
I had the time of my life and I never experienced something like that before and I owe it all to you
So fyah! The great Mos Def and Badu together in one palace! So dynamite to see these gems in all their glory! Lights, sounds, and sights on point! Still livin the experience daily. Mahalo for the good vibes Seattle!
It was ok, the tickets should have been cheaper. The beginning acts kinda sucked
She was excellent. She was worth every dime. Her band and back up singers were all that as well. I will go see her again!
She's my absolute favorite artist. I saw her 3 times in two years. Each time I see her the Badu experience gets better and better.
I would have much rather stayed out with the guy I met from a dating app. He was more entertaining than the show. I guess I should have read the fine print I was going for Tobe Nwigwe and Durand Bernarr but they weren't on the list for Dallas. I left early without a refund, I was very disappointed
She was Erykah! And it was Awesome!!!! She did her good joints and a few album sweet spotsâŚif she wouldâve done her New One from the Netflix movie I wouldâve DIED!! but it was an awesome Experience for ME.
This was my 6th time seeing Erykah in concert over the last 2 decades and she NEVER disappoints!
This show was fantastic and I definitely enjoyed the energy. It was a vibe. Erykah Badu really gave a show. The art was amazing. đ
