Surprise treat
by Jazzmaven on 8/15/10STOLTZ LISTENING ROOM AT THE AVALON THEATRE - EASTONWe spent the evening in Easton, MD to rest after a long drive to attend a gathering elsewhere on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. As jazz fans from Florida and NYC, we were delighted to find some jazz in Easton. We were first greatly impressed by the venue, a lovely listening room atop the Avalon Theater, full of a very appreciative crowd.. Second, Eric Byrd and his trio were not only terrific musicians, but also very engaging. He has a bluesy gospel-inspired piano style, with terrific technique and good licks. He had great chemistry with his sidemen as well. Because they had just recorded a tribute to Ray Charles, there was a heavy dose of Charles, perhaps just a bit too much. In any event, thank you Easton and Eric Byrd for a terrific evening! Jazz lives in Easton, Maryland!
