EMILY WELLS IN CONCERT:
Multi-talented experimental composer and producer Emily Wells takes the concept of a one-woman band to the next level at her virtuosic live shows. Using a looping pedal and an arsenal of samplers and sequencers, Wells layers lush synths, hip hop beats, tender violin, and otherworldly vocals to recreate her intricate songs piece by piece right in front of fans' eyes. This rare glimpse into the creative process lures ticket buyers into her mesmerizing and immersive sonic world, leaving them with a new understanding of her painstaking compositional process. As richly textured, beat-driven songs like "Becomes the Color" and "Passenger" take shape, Wells casts her dynamic voice out into the crowd with the focused intensity of a master at work. Fans of cutting-edge music and experimental performance techniques won’t want to miss Wells as she conjures up her expertly crafted compositions in real-time.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Amarillo, TX-born Emily Wells was raised in a musical family and began playing the violin at age four. By age 13 she was issuing her own recordings on cassette tape, forging a unique sound over the course of self-released albums like Midori Sour (1999), Shadow Box (2001), and Music for Geek Love (2004). In 2007 she made her official full-length debut on Edub Productions with the album Beautiful Sleepyhead & The Laughing Yaks. She followed up in 2008 with her sophomore album The Symphonies: Dreams, Memories & Parties, an ambitious release that garnered significant critical acclaim and led to a performance on Last Call with Carson Daly. After relocating to New York she released the 2012 album Mama, another critical masterstroke that she followed up with an acoustic version in 2013. With a new album slated for release in 2016, Wells has fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see what envelope-pushing sonic experiments she’s been up to since releasing Mama.
