About

Elvis Costello is a writer and part-time musician who made a number of records in the 20th Century, some of which are still remembered today.

He was born in London and raised there and in Liverpool.

Costello is the composer or lyricist of over six hundred published titles, including fifteen songs co-written with Paul McCartney and renowned collaborations with Allen Toussaint, the Brodsky Quartet and T Bone Burnett.

Costello's songwriting alliance with Burt Bacharach, began in 1995 with the song, "God Give Me Strength", which led to the 1998 album, "Painted From Memory", before their work was collected in 2023, on the four-album set, "The Songs Of Bacharach & Costello".

Elvis Costello songs have been recorded by Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Chet Baker, Dusty Springfield, Solomon Burke, George Jones, Linda Ronstadt and Bjork, while among the artists with whom he has written songs are Loretta Lynn, Carole King, Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson and his wife, Diana Krall.

Working purely as a lyricist, Costello has provided words for the music of Billy Strayhorn, Oscar Peterson and for twelve Charles Mingus compositions and as a composer, set twelve unpublished lyrics by Bob Dylan.

2024 will see the opening of "A Face In The Crowd", Sarah Ruhl's stage adaptation of the Budd Schulberg story for which Elvis Costello composed the songs.

"A Face In The Crowd" will open at the Young Vic in London on INSERT DATE, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah and produced by Adam Kenwright.

Elvis Costello is the author of "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink", a more than six-hundred page memoir which has been translated into six languages. He has received a range of awards over his 45 year old career of which the induction into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is probably the most significant.

Although he holds two honorary doctorates in music - one from the University of Liverpool and another from the New England Conservatory- Elvis Costello is known for playing the guitar with almost no regard for common sense.

Costello currently performs with The Imposters; his long time companions, drummer, Pete Thomas and pianist, Steve Nieve, bassist of twenty-three years standing, Davey Faragher and their special guest, Texas guitarist, Charlie Sexton.

  • Really honored to see/hear Elvis Costello. .

    by W-BBB on 7/5/25Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

The band (Charlie Sexton et al. ) were extremely talented, pleasant and engaged. I felt honored to listen to these artists, and Elvis has brought so much joy to my life andthe music I enjoy. It was delightful to hear him in person. I didn’t really hear the words very well when he sang, but being in the balcony I am not sure if it was the Uptown acoustics in the balcony or the fact that he is 70. It was still awesome. Thank you Elvis!!!

  • Great time

by BlaineJ on 7/5/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

The venue at the The Palms Hotel casino Las Vegas, where the concert was held, was a great experience. Elvis Costello, and company, put on an excellent show with all of the songs that we have become familiar with.

  • Second half was great

by cogsci guy on 7/1/25Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen Elvis before out in El Cajon at the Magnolia, where the sound was really awful. I also saw him downtown when it was just him and a piano, and man, was his voice awesome! I expected Humphrey's to have much better sound than the Magnolia, as I've seen many concerts there, but I was wrong. The drums were overpowering, such that you could barely hear the words - Elvis' concerts should feature his voice. He often flirts with being out of key; this time he was making love to it. I almost left the concert early. Then, everything changed when the whole band moved over to the left side of the stage, with a different drum kit and generally more acoustic sound. This was great! When they moved back to the original setup, they did all hits, and this was much better since I already knew the words. I love Elvis Costello, but I don't know if I would ever try seeing him live again.

  • "Arty"Elvis

by elvistcob on 6/30/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

When I saw Elvis Costello "The Early Years", I thought it was gonna be a recreation of his Armed Forces tour decades ago. Ya know, angry young Elvis. Well, we got that for the last 25 minutes. Technically, yes, it was stuff from the first 10 years. It started off kind of like a Bob Dylan show, where he did reworked, extended versions of songs like "Watching The Detectives". OK and fine. The middle of the show had him on acoustic guitar with the band huddled around like they were in a coffee show. Ok, I guess. That was the artsy part. Then he ended with 4-5 power numbers. OK, nice concert, but I can't fathom a show billed as early Elvis which left out "Oliver's Army", "Accidents Will Happen", "Waiting For The End of The Word"and probably a few I can't think of right now.

  • Great time

We had a great time. Went with my wife and son and its was spectacular as we rocked the night away with Elvis Costello and the imposters with CharlieSaxton. Last time I saw Elvis Costello was back in the 80's when I was single and lived in new york. Time flies.

  • his voice is changing, he is a fantastic entertainer..

  • A great show

by Smitty on 6/29/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

As always, Elvis rocks. He wavered some in the middle, but then brought it home by ending with Pump It Up, Radio Radio and then Peace Love and Understanding. Overall, a great show in a great venue.

  • Pump It Up!

by John on 6/29/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis Costello played for 2 hours, played most of the hits, and had Charlie Sexton on lead guitar. It was a really good night of music, and his band was spot-on. The Pearl Concert Theater is a great venue! Elvis has been performing for about 50 years, and his voice was fantastic.

  • Not what I expected

by BKS on 6/29/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

Elvis doesn't seem to be able to sing the songs as he wrote them. The instruments sounded great, but his singing and the vocal mix was not good.

  • Elvis Costello has not missed a Beat!

by Cowlick Kid on 6/29/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Elivis Costello at the Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort. The venue was clean and more of an intimate concert setting. Elvis played for 2 hours. He interacted with the audience. He told some great stories and sang , as he claimed, whatever he wanted to. He didn't disappoint. His voice was pure and his guitar playing was beautiful. A great concert!

  • Save your money

by Oregonians on 6/29/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

Horrible couldn’t understand him. The songs didn’t sound the same. We left after a half hour. Bummer experience.

  • Great concert but terrible venue.

by Linda on 6/29/25Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

I think the band did a great job but the acoustics in the venue were so bad that I couldn’t even recognize many of the songs until they got to the chorus. I thought that the sound level was good (as in not blowing my eardrums out) at the beginning of the concert but by the end of the concert peak decibel levels were 103 db, well into the hearing loss range. I’d go see Elvis Costello again in concert but I won’t be going back to the Pearl Theatre at the Palms.

  • Sound Quality was Bad

by Fnix on 6/28/25Hard Rock Live Sacramento - WheatlandRating: 3 out of 5

Elvis was great, sadly the sound mix was awful. I've been to this venue before and it has never been this bad. Ruined the whole experience really.

  • Great experience

by Gilly on 6/27/25Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis Costello put on a really great show. He really connected with his audience and did not disappoint! Can't go wrong with Elvis Costello!

  • Elvis is King!

by Birdlogic on 6/26/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Long time fan. Saw the Attractions at Hollywood High in ‘78, a year after graduating. The Orpheum show was nothing short of spectacular. Elvis’ playlist was excellent, a trip down memory lane and the the band was fantastic as well!

  • One of the best Elvis Costello shows ever!

by Vivi on 6/26/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Elvis Costello and the band were powerful! The sound was amazing and the song selection was perfect.

  • Great show.

by Hans on 6/25/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This is my 2nd time seeing a show at the Orpheum. Such a beautiful place. The sound was a little loud for me and a lot of things just get muffled from too much guitar or too much drum. But half-way through the set, Elvis and the band switched to a more mellow selection of songs. I'm not saying it was 'unplugged' per se, but the clarity was so much better. Just about every hit song you could think of was played, and my wife especially enjoyed hearing "What's so funny about peace love and understanding", not only once at the beginning of the show, but again at the end. It's her favorite song. The set was just a little over 2 hours. I'm so glad we went.

  • Better than ever

    by Rich7ell on 6/25/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was our 7th Elvis Concert. He mixed it up, always provides some new arrangements, including Van’s ‘Domino,’ (with a nod to Van’s feistiness…”you can take the boy out of East Belfast…,”), and The Impostors were great as well. Will see the band again asap.

  • Elvis Costello and the Imposters

by mrshistory on 6/25/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The Orpheum is a lovely old venue. Happy it has been preserved. This was first time seeing Elvis Costello live. Have always been an admirer of his work. Unfortunately the music was a little too loud so that it was hard to hear the words as he sang. Other than that the music and the band were fantastic. They had a very enthusiastic audience.

  • Bopping in my seat all night

Elvis C was a great performer to see. The band and his energy did not quit! My husband and I were rocking in our seats all night. 10/10
