The Elf on the Shelf musical was good and our granddaughters thoroughly enjoyed the show. This was their first theater experience. However, I was disappointed about a five issues that I feel could be revised to improve our experience and consideration for future events. 1. Having to pay $40 for rapid test done for the oldest child who is 7 y/o was frustrating as this is offered for minimal cost else where. 2. Having to leave my handbag in my car seemed unreasonable after having to go through a detector screening. No legitimate reason that my purse could not have gone through screening. 3. The lack of a poster of the event inside to accommodate taking pictures of the event by attendees. 4. My husband and I had to separate when entering the event because one of our three granddaughters had to have the rapid Covid test. The problem occurred when the online tickets were not accepted for my husband without going through multiple extra steps. Although we have the same uncommon last name, he had to show identification and answer multiple questions. 5. The hardcopy tickets provided on site did not accurately reflect the cost of the purchase of the tickets through Ticketmaster, with a significant difference and no explanation for the discrepancy.
Elf on the Shelf was a wonderful family show. We had a blast. I don’t appreciate the fact that I had to pay 40.00 for a covid test for my niece before she could enter the show. When I purchased the tickets before you changed your website. Children were just approved for vaccination, and I did see that mask had to be at all time throughout the show. I really feel that charging 40.00 on top on having a holiday eexperience with your family. I also feel the wristband on their arm to let everyone know you were tested is a bit much. I also feel you Want to charge 40.00 for a important test you should have a professional perform the test NOT the child. How many negative tests were really positive???
This was a great family musical for all ages. Our large family ages 10 to 72 went and everyone loved it and cannot wait to see it again. The kids are still talking about it. There needs to be more joy and fun in our lives. The venue was perfect as well. It was a wonderful afternoon and the staff was great.
The show was so fun and lively. My eight-year-old loved every minute of it. My only critique would be that it started a half an hour late, but besides that, it was great.
Starting 1 hour late due to covid testing is unacceptable. You have children waiting for the show to start, not one announcement was made to inform us as to what the delay was. I’m an airline employee, (JetBlue as a matter of fact) if we have any form of a delay we are informing our customers every 15 minutes. Also - delaying the show due to covid testing is definitely unacceptable. We were very disappointed.
we stood in line for 1 hr 20 min to have the childred rapid tested I should have been alerted to this when a bought my tickets in Oct, It was not stated on my tickets. there was no where near enough people available to do this testing I would have been glad to pay for the test in my city and not stand in line in the severe cold . there were not many people properly dressed for that thinking they would go from parking garages to theater
The show was amazing. From the cast to the setting and venue.
The Boch Center aka Wang Center offered rapid Covid testing for children prior to the 3pm show. So many people showed up their children to be tested. Because of this, The show was delayed well over one hour. It was not fair to the children, like my granddaughter, who were tested prior to the show date.
It clearly states when you purchase your tixs that you need to have proof of your COVID vaccine or a negative test within 72 hrs of the show. WHY then, was this show postponed for over an hour to wait for so many people to go and get their test? Why were those of us that followed the rule punished, forced to sit in our seats with small children with nothing to do. Not to mention the inconvenience of the time change. We had plans for after the show that we missed (and couldn't get our money back), because the show didn't start until after 4:00. I have never been to a production of any show that has not started on time. This was completely unacceptable. Beyond disappointed in the way this was handled.
This is more of a review on the venue - Boch Wang center. They required proof of vaccination or negative COVID test within 72 hours. They were gracious enough to offer free testing for kids, which is great since most kids of this age were not vaccinated, and finding a test site with availability the day before a thanksgiving was impossible. This resulted in us and many others having to wait in line for 2 hours in the cold. The show was delayed an hour and we still missed the first half of the show. Very bad planning on the part of the Boch center. I will not be taking the grandkids to anymore shows this year.
The event began an hour late due to the venue offerring free Covid testing for children under 12 (and pay testing for adults). Understandably the venue did not predict the insane numbers of people who showed up for testing, but a plan should have been in place. Honestly the 3pm show should have begun on time and then done a second show for all of the people being tested and late. Out of all of that testing and lateness the venue shared that they had only 1 positive case- in my opinion not a number justifiable for holding the testing in the long run. The show itself was wonderful and inspiring and just the thing to kick off our holiday spirit!!!!
The show was so nice and our kids loved it. The performers were great! The story was touching and very useful for kids starting to grow up and loosing a bit the believes in the magic of santa :). Highly recommended
The start was delayed an hour due to the theatre’s free covid testing…we were told that people didn’t come early for testing, as directed ahead of time via email. But that is not why I’m leaving a bad review for the show itself. The story line was terrible and the set/props were worse. Very disappointing.
Because so many people opted to wait until arrival at the show for their Covid testing, the rest of us were stuck in our seats waiting for the show to begin(supposed to be 3pm). First, it was a few minutes late. Then an announcement that it would start at 3:30. Finally, the show began at 4:02, at which point my youngest was in such a bad mood that we didn’t really get to admire the show.
My 8 year old son thought it was wonderful from beginning to end! I thought it wonderful as well. So much great music.
Kids wished they included more of a sing a long... but overall it 2as an excellent show.
The theatre in Albany is beautiful. Entering the lobby just put us in the Christmas spirit. The show itself was so sweet. The actors did a great job. The story line made me cry. We had a wonderful evening watching this show!
The show was fabulous. Our boys and us included really enjoyed the musical. We can not think of anything you could do to make it better. Great job and Happy Holiday’s!
This year my granddaughter's December birthday present was taking her to see The Elf on the Shelf. We both were so entertained with the music, lights, and cast starring in the play. She is still talking about it. This is a very warming musical to kick off this year's Christmas season. In view of all the things that have been going on over the past two years this was the ideal gift to lift both of our spirits. If you have a chance to go, don't miss this one. You'll have a great time.
