With her haunting and ethereal music, Eleri Ward gained a massive following on TikTok before catapulting to stardom. Eleri Ward is an American pop/indie-folk musician whose artful style shakes up old classics. Her 2022-2023 Tender Tour follows the release of her 2022 album, Keep a Tender Distance, a tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim. The tour takes Ward throughout the Eastern United States, with her live performances having been massively popular. Reviewers have emphasized her showmanship and ability to move the crowd with professional grace. A 2021 review from Broadway World wrote, "Ward manages to add her own flair to Sondheim's music while also keeping the heart and core meanings of the songs present." Ward's Keep a Tender Distance features acoustic covers of the songs of Sondheim, sung with depth and introspection. Her first album, A Perfect Little Death (2021), is also a tribute to Sondheim.

Originally a Chicago native, Ward currently resides in New York City. She has studied music throughout her life, beginning with the violin at age 2 and music school at age 5 where she began formal piano and violin training. Ward's rise to stardom began in 2019 when she started uploading her music covers to YouTube. During the COVID-19 pandemic and after some encouragement from a friend, she began uploading to TikTok, making the recordings in her walk-in closet. Her TikToks surged in popularity, which sparked the attention of Ghostlight Records. Ward is set to make her Off-Broadway debut in Kate Nash's Only Gold (2023). Ward's two biggest influences are Stephen Sondheim and Sufjan Stevens because, while very different, both artists cover dark and difficult subject matter and contrast it with beauty. In a 2021 interview with Broadway World she described it as, "a sense of elegance and charm that makes that darkness palatable and enchanting." In combining the two, she feels that this dynamic is further highlighted. Eleri Ward has a very free-flowing and spontaneous process, with her songs often coming out all at once, or not at all. She prefers to work quickly and in the heat of the moment, often singing her thoughts to herself. Eleri Ward has more than 28,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with her most popular song, "Johanna (Reprise)" amassing more that 450,000 streams.
