Unfortunate Messiness
by Luke Bendel on 10/18/25Dolby Theatre - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5I was really excited about this concert, and I was having an awesome time until it got to Godrick. I noticed something about the music was a little off, but it wasn’t so prevalent until the orchestra made it through Stormveil and to Godrick, where the unfortunately terrible sound mixing made itself known. The entire male choir was pretty much silent with the female choir also being hard to hear, which really made some boss OST’s like Godrick, Radahn, Rykard, Mohg, and Godfrey essentially instrumental. I wish I had more to say positively about the orchestra, but I really didn’t hear any of it very well which isn’t necessarily the fault of the orchestra itself. The gameplay that was shown on the screen was extremely cool and cinematic at times, and repetitive and inexperienced at others. I absolutely loved the way that the different areas were shown; with the background song playing over some cinematic shots of the environment. I also really like when there would be some kind of slow-mo shot mid-fight and when the player character would use different armor sets and weapons throughout. However, some of the gameplay shown was really weird of even hard to watch, with most of the gameplay mid-fight was just regular combat that everybody could play themselves, instead of the (What I thought was) much cooler and immersive cinematic shots where the camera was not attached to the character. Also blocking and using guard counters on Malenia for some dumb reason. This might have only bothered me, but the order that some things were shown in was also strange. Like fighting Malenia before Fire Giant, ( which would have meant getting the haligtree medallion from Niall and going back to the lift) or Mohg right after the Regal Spirit, or even fighting Sewer Mohg after the real one. Not a huge deal but it kinda caught me off guard. I wish I had more positive stuff to say but there were so many parts that threw me off or simply disappointed me that I really can’t.
