EDWIN MCCAIN IN CONCERT:

Late-'90s alt-rock mainstay Edwin McCain continues to draw serious crowds anytime he performs his nostalgic guitar-driven tunes in concert. McCain made headlines in 2015 when he signed on to the Animal Planet series Flipping Ships, which follows him as he restores abandoned ocean vessels with his company Boats Have Souls, and the songs he's written for the show have introduced his music to a new generation of fans. At his live shows he's joined by his talented backing group the Edwin McCain Band, which helps him bring nostalgic favorites like "I'll Be" and "I Could Not Ask for More" to life with energetic guitar, bass, keyboards, saxophone, and drums. McCain's husky voice and knack for catchy melodies are as impressive as ever, and the same commitment to craft that has led him to restore boats remains ever-present in his music. Whether he's performing his '90s hits or playing new material written for Flipping Ships, McCain always steers a course of good vibes and great music at his must-see live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

South Carolina-born Edwin McCain began self-releasing albums in the early '90s and made a name for himself on tour with longtime pals Hootie and the Blowfish. In 1994 he joined Hootie and company on the Atlantic Records roster, making his major label debut the following year with Honor Among Thieves. The album was a moderate success, but McCain's real breakthrough came a few years later with his 1998 sophomore album Misguided Roses. The record spawned "I'll Be," a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 that remained a rock radio staple well into the 2000s. He scored another hit in 1999 with "I Could Not Ask for More," the lead single off his third album Messenger. Since then McCain has remained prolific, releasing albums every few years while also launching his reality TV career with the Animal Planet series Flipping Ships. He continues to follow his two passions, splitting his time between restoring dilapidated boats and performing his beloved alt-rock tunes on tour.

Edwin McCain wows the crowd again!

by GtrGeorge on 8/8/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

We've seen Edwin McCain a few times. We wopndered if he would still have the energy and skills that we saw in him a few years ago. Sometimes people change. Well, let me tell you, Edwin and the band came out and held the NY crowd in the palm of their hands. And I think they would have played all night..but there WAS another band booked to play after them. To be clear: there are some great singers in the bizness, and some great writers and some people that can tell a funny story and keep you entertained...but there are so few people who can do all of this...off the cuff...just being themselves. That's Edwin McCain..and he shows no signs of slowing down. PS: The pics of him lately stink, he's lost weight, looks great and seems to be enjoying himself MORE these days..even more than when he was in the top 40. Forget the top 40..I'll take Edwin Mcain anyday over Lady GaGa. Go see him...he is well worth it...what a great night!

Edwin looked great. Cut the hair ,dropped the lbs, He never sounded better and was really on! Band jammed for 2 hours . Highlights were I'll be , Could not ask for more. Sign on the door, one thing, gramercy park and best of the night was Darwin's Children. Also great close with Peter Gabrial's Your Eyes and Seal's A little bite Crazy. Awesome night . Thanks Boys.

by Jay86 on 8/8/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Everything was just fantastic last night. Both opening acts were very good and Edwin did not disappoint. Venue was also very good. Small enough to be comfortable and large enough to feel like you're enjoying the music with a lot of fans. All definitely recommended.

He made a special announcement to newly engaged couple, and then came off sdtage to sing to them. Very personal with he audience and told funny explanations as to why he wrote various songs.

    Always incredible!

by StacMarie on 7/19/09JANNUS LANDING COURTYARD - St Petersburg

I have seen Edwin McCain 3 times now and he never disappoints. He is likeable, down to earth and so talented that it's ridiculous (he's actually even better live than on his album.... How many artists can you say that about?). Every song is delivered with such passion and conviction. He has an uncanny ability to paint pictures with his lyrics and then deliver them in such a way that you feel as if you are experiencing every emotion evoked in the song. The set list was perfect..... all the songs we were waiting to hear were strategically placed amongst songs that were, if less main stream than others, just as beautifully written and delivered as our favorites.

    Edwin always a treat

by Off4Summer on 7/19/09JANNUS LANDING COURTYARD - St Petersburg

I have to say Edwin McCain never lets down his fans. This was the 4th time going to one of his shows and it was as good as the first time. I was very impressed with how he takes time after the show to meet his fans!!!

    Edwin is awesome

by minivacation on 7/4/09House of Blues Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach

Edwin came on and rocked. I love his soulful lyrics and mesmerizing voice. I even love hearing him do cover songs. He even came down into the audience for this one! However, I can't wait until they pass the no smoking law......It sucks to have to look through a haze to see someone. I coughed and sneezed for days because of the selfish, oblivious smoker beside me. I also don't understand why cameras were not allowed.

Edwin McCain was great...the venue was too smoky

by SCVisitor on 7/4/09House of Blues Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach

We really enjoyed Edwin McCain, the performance was great, the sound good, he was better than I expected!! I would see him again for sure...but not at HOB Myrtle Beach. The venue was really smoky and they allowed small children in ... yes 3 and 4 year old kids. I found that distracting since it's mostly a "standing room only" environment and the kids were running around our feet, yelling and such.

    Edwin was in top-form!!

by PrimoDon on 7/4/09House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Edwin was awesome! The show was energetic and was perfectly mixed, and LOUD!!! (Kudos to the FOH, we stood behind him.) There was a satisfying blend of the supported new record and all the big hits. Vocally, man, I can't put into words effectively...it's why we're fans of Edwin McCain. He's one of the best vocalists in rock music, period. The reasons I didn't give 5 stars is because the lighting was strange. It just didn't seem sync'd most of the time. Sophie B. Hawkins was VERY energetic! I feel like I've seen Janis Joplin live now, too!

Edwin and His band are AMAZING!

by Julie on 7/3/09House of Blues Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach

My husband and I have seen Edwin McCain live at least seven times, and we try and find a show each year to celebrate our anniversary, because the first time we saw a show was the first year we were married! He gets better every year, and we always leave seeing something new and a terrific new song or two. We absolutley love Edwin, his personal story-telling syle, that shares a peice of his heart with his fans. He is not afraid to be simple, real and just himself, and we appreciate that about him immensely! Keep the music coming, Edwin!

    They rocked the house!

by Christian on 7/3/09House of Blues Myrtle Beach - Myrtle Beach

It was really cold inside but me having a sunburn probably didnt help any. The concert was awesome. I only came for a few songs but after that found that I liked them all. Everyone in the band was great and me and my girlfriend had a great time. GO see them!
