I traveled to Vegas for this concert - initially, was inspired by the idea of seeing Johnny Winter who, unfortunately, passed away before this show. The lineup then added Rick Derringer and his band, which was good!
The musicians all did a good job, and were very entertaining. But, it seemed to me that they should have played MUCH longer than they did in the individual acts! For example, I had waited to see Vanilla Fudge for 45 years(!), and was extremely disappointed when they only played for half an hour - or less! The show included a member of Savoy Brown and the great Mr. Rivera from Rare Earth; then, Rick Derringer and his band; then, Vanilla Fudge; then, Edgar Winter and his band. All played well, although there were some weak moments in Mr. Rivera's performance. Not his fault, but seemed like his back-up musicians (who also played with some of the other musicians/bands) were not quite up to par (practice-wise) on the Rare Earth tunes. All in all, it was a good show - but, with this many bands, I expected it to last longer! Concert started at 7:30, with shorter-than-usual breaks between bands - and it was OVER at 10:15. I hadn't had nearly enough, particularly of Vanilla Fudge :( I WILL say, however, that Vanilla Fudge's vocals were spot-on and FLAWLESS, as was their overall performance.
