What is EchoPark Speedway?
Hampton, Georgia, is home to one of the most iconic tracks in stock car racing and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. EchoPark Speedway has been in operation since 1960, and its 1.54 mile quad-oval track has long been known as one of the fastest in motorsports. EchoPark Speedway also hosts Monster Jam, car shows, the Georgia State Fair, local High School Graduations and hundreds of other events throughout the year.
EchoPark Speedway History
Ground was broken in 1958 for what was originally known as Atlanta International Raceway, opening on July 31, 1960, with Fireball Roberts winning the inaugural Dixie 300. From 1960 until 2011, the Speedway was home to two annual NASCAR events: the Atlanta 500 in the spring, and the Dixie 500 in the fall. In 1990, Speedway Motorsports Inc. bought the track, adding condominiums to the course in 1994 and almost completely rebuilding the track in 1997.
Some of the most iconic moments in NASCAR history have taken place at the Speedway. Before the advent of the Race to the Cup, EPS was often the last stop on what is now known as the NASCAR Cup circuit, leading to some incredible finishes to the season. The 1992 Hooters 500 featured Richard Petty's final NASCAR race, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR debut, and a legendary ending in which Bill Elliott won the race, but Alan Kulwicki won the Winston Cup title.

We were a tad disappointed with the few number of souvenier trailers...but realize ATL Motor Speedway may not have a whole lot to do with who brings one. Overall, we had an absolute blast. We LOVED our seats (166, row 7, Winners) and were very pleased with the helpfulness of the staff. Thank you for a great weekend...we'll see you all very soon!
This was the first time my family and I went to Atlanta Motor Speedway. The facility was very nice. The racing action was edge of your seat. We cant wait to go back!
Race was awesome, however, parking and directions to leave are very undesireable. Need to do a better job on assisting patrons entering and leaving. Once out of racing complex, traffic was as expected.
Great race and the camping was great. The restrooms were clean and the staff was wonderful.
Not a big fan of NASCAR. Just went to see what a race would be like. It was ok. Cars were spread out throughout most of the race, so not a whole lot of racing - if you know what I mean. Like that parking was "free" and that you could bring in a cooler. Too many smokers. I didn't particularly care for cigarette smoke constantly blowing in my face from the chain smokers nearby.
Love Nascar! Great event! Got a little worried about receiving tickets in time, but otherwise awesome.
It was exciting, there were plenty of fun things to do before the race actually started. the food was a bit pricey and security was kinda lax but over amazing experience
Race was great, weather was great, seats were fantastic and I plan on being at the fall race at AMS!
Great racetrack. I've been going to Nascar races for about 28 yrs. I've been to alot of tracks, liked alot of them, didnt' like some of them. First time I'd ever been to Atlanta and I must say I loved the racing and the entire experience. Relatively easy "in and out" in terms of parking and getting out of there, I had a great seat (Winner's Section, Section 263, Row 56). I was quite impressed. I was a bit surprised that the crowd seemed to be "sparse" relative to what I'm used to at most races. Down economy I'm sure has alot to do with it, but not good to see so many empty seats. Tickets I guess were a little on the high side relative to some tracks. I think I paid $125 for mine. I've had same 4 seats at Richmond for about 20 yrs and those are excellent seats and go for 90 a piece, so maybe that would be the one downside I could see (other than the fact that one of the Bush brothers won the race !!).... But I thoroughly enjoyed the racetrack.....it's gonna be great under the lights on Labor Day Weekend.........
This was my first time attending and it was awesome
Race was exciting. Walk around the track was interesting. We took our 8 year old and she wasn't able to make it all the way around.
It's NASCAR baby!!!!! Always a good time at a race. If you have not been the GO!
This was a great family event,Tailgating was a good idea before and after.Collectables were better outside than inside.
It was a good race- great tickets at an outstanding price! If I could get that price all the time, I would always take my hubby to the race. No seat had a bad view- although every seat was crammed.. if you're tall- buy the expensive seats- maybe they are better.
This is a great place to go you get all the horse power the smell of the high octane fuel and cars going almost 200mph. This is a must have for every man.
THIS WAS MY FIRST NASCAR RACE AND HAD A GREAT TIME. WISH THE GRANDSTANDS WERE SMOKE FREE. A DESIGNATED AREA FOR SMOKERS TO SMOKE WOULD BE GREAT! CIGARETTE SMOKE REALLY AGGRAVATES MY ALLERGIES.
Race was everything expected and more. Was my son and his friends first live race and lived up to there expectations and then some
This was my 4, 11, and 14 year olds first NASCAR race and my first time at Atlanta Motor Speedway. I was very impressed with the track and the employees who make it an enjoyable event. Of course, with every NASCAR race there were the usual drunk idiots that don't know how to act in public but it gave me a chance to instructed my children why drinking is not a good thing. All in all, we had a very good time and my son will never forget meeting Bill Jordan (his hero) and getting a picture and autograph. Something NASCAR might want to think about is making a "family section"." Then I wouldn't have to spend half of the time explaining what comes out of the mouths of drunks!
NASCAR is something that needs to be experienced in person. You simply can't get a grasp of how fast and powerful the cars are until you are watching them go around the track. Whether its a fast track like Atlanta, or a more technical track like Watkins Glen, the skill it takes to drive these cars becomes evident when you see a race live. The atmosphere at the track is also great, with all types of entertainment for all ages. I would definitely recommend taking a trip to the track the next time NASCAR is in town.
