Not just for the old folks...

by OldRadioDog on 5/24/10DECC Arena - Duluth

A great show for the aging 1970s and 80s rockers still out there who want to get out and have a live show experience and have some good clean fun at the same time. Go ahead and take the kids...or the grandkids for that matter. Didn't see an unhappy face in the crowd! The mix on the choral group was weak in a few spots, otherwise, no complaints...it was a really good show. The second act, Hairball, was impressive but just a little loud (not a complaint, just an observation)...but 80s rock bands were always a little loud, right? If you have a chance to see it, check it out.

    DSSO Queen Event Awesomely fun!

by Roseone on 5/24/10DECC Arena - Duluth

Great music, great job DSSO Orchestra & Choir, and loved both bands! The only thing I would have done differently is shortened the time between the DSSO Music of Queen and Hairball (a very talented group of musicians in their own right.) And I would have opened up the main floor for everyone (those of us sitting up above) during the first half of the night. Over all a great event for Duluth! Next year I suggest....Pink Floyd! Get Roger Waters too!!!

    DSSO Outshines Queen

by ddhakaebert on 5/24/10DECC Arena - Duluth

As usual, the DSSO was flawless. The chorus did a good job as well, although from where I sat (section C, row 1- front & center) the sound mixing made it difficult to hear them. The 7 members of the rock group from Toronto were so over-amplified that it was often as if they were on stage by themselves. Surprisingly, they made no attempt to look like, or perform like, the original members of Queen. They had zero stage presence. It was as if they were just another group doing a song or two from Queen - not a group performing two hours of the music of Queen and nothing but Queen.

    DSSO

by Dorn on 5/23/10DECC Arena - Duluth

I can not describe the fun we had at this event. My wife and I took our two kids (both UMD grads) and their dates to this event and had the best time ever. In fact - people that were seated next to us stated that they were glad to see people having such a good time at a DECC event. The event speaker stated that it had been years since rock concerts have been held at the DECC. I would strongly recommend more events!! The DSSO was awesome!! Thank you so much for memory that will last forever!!!!

Hairball was nothing short of awesome

    by Perkky1 on 5/23/10DECC Arena - Duluth

The DSSO was great with the Queen concert. The sounds of the band mixed with the choir and orchestra was well done. Surprisingly though with all the well known Queen songs they played a couple I had never heard of. There was a long wait before Hairball got on stage but the wait was worth it. They were entertaining as well as extremely talented. I really enjoyed watching the guitarist that looked like Adam Lampert! He must be a gymnist by day....very energetic and flexible. The whole band was great and really made you think you were ate a KISS...ACDC....Poison.....Prince etc concert!!

    DSSO: Music of Queen

by JoJoBlue on 5/23/10DECC Arena - Duluth

Very well done. The chorus was very good, but was difficult to hear at times due to the orchestra & band & the audience. Maybe a few more mics in the back for them. All in all a good time.

    Carmina Burana

by Anonymous on 3/7/10DECC Auditorium - Duluth

Very well performed! The addition of the UWS choir and the Hermantown Middle School choir to the DSSO chorus was incredible! I put this in the same catagory as any major metropolitan symphony production.

    Thanks For The Memories

    by DaveT323 on 2/14/10DECC Auditorium - Duluth

Steve did a fantastic job with the whole show. He made you feel like you were sitting at his house chatting about Mr. Sinatra. His blend of stories and the great voice he has made a very enjoyable evening. The DSSO was a perfect back-up to his singing. They blended very well. Over all I would recommend him to my friends anyplace he is playing.

    Joyce Yang was Wonderful!

    by Glee47 on 1/24/10DECC Auditorium - Duluth

How can you not like Mozart! Our symphony makes me proud every time I have the priveledge of witnessing them. And Joyce Yang was truly a joy to watch and listen to. But that Girl can play that piano and ALL of the piano! I only wish the sound carried a bit louder. I was on the main floor towards middle front. Certainly don't have to worry about the music being too loud! Thumbs UP!

Couldn't have picked better "Broadway" selections.

by Jimoosh on 1/2/10DECC Auditorium - Duluth

The music was just a perfect selection of mellow and up-beat numbers that were at once memorable and beautiful. The voices of both Doug and Debbie were amazing with regard to each and every number. DSSO provided an ideal accompanyment to each number. Of particular note were the songs: Mr. Cellophane, Memories and Music of the Night. Wow!! For New Year's Eve, t'was better that Mozart.

    DSSO - OUTSTANDING

by ddhakaebert on 1/2/10DECC Auditorium - Duluth

We were hoping for a good show, we were pleasantly surprised; the show was simply outstanding. The 2 Broadway stars were the best I've seen in a very long time. They actually made it seem as though they were happy to be in Duluth on New Years Eve!

    Wonderful voices

by Sisty on 1/1/10DECC Auditorium - Duluth

My husband, mother, and I totally enjoyed this pop concert. Debbie Gravitte and Doug LaBrecque gave top-notch professional performances singing a wonderful variety of Broadway selections. They both have awesome voices and are delightful entertainers who easily engaged the audience. The Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra played exceptionally well as usual. It was a very delightful way to spend New Year's Eve.

I had a great time. All of the musicans did a wonderful job. The ending where the chorus was added in was the best. I also enjoyed the new piece in the beginning.

    Ode to Joy was wonderful!

by Jenevieve on 11/15/09DECC Auditorium - Duluth

This was my first time attending a DSSO performance. I have wanted to go for years but have not had the opportunity. Last night I brought our 12 yr old and 10 yr old. It was an amazing experience for us all! Your beautiful music brought tears of JOY to my eyes several times. It was unforgettable, and I will certainly bring my mother and friends along next time. Thank you for all the hard work that goes into putting on a performance of this caliber. It was a very positive experience for my girls and I.
