    Delightful Show!

by musicallover69 on 5/30/16Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

When I was "shopping" for a musical to take my mother to, I came across this new musical. There were no reviews as it was new, but I took a chance, knowing that Drury Lane always does a fine job with any musical I have seen. From the opening comedic introduction by the lead character to end of the show, we were both thoroughly entertained. The casting was perfect. All the actors/singers did an excellent job filling their roles. The story and musical numbers where very enjoyable and refreshing. It is a musical for the whole family appropriate for children, which cannot be said for many musicals. I highly recommend seeing this musical!

    Fun but unexpected

by Anonymous on 5/29/16Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

This show was fun for those that saw the 69's TV Show. The thin story line, typical of musicals was clever. My main criticism was the music which at times seemed contrived. The actress that played Hazel was great and resembled Shirley Boot.h. A show for older audiences

    Wasted Talent

by emotions on 5/17/16Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

I was so looking forward to this production, as "Hazel" was one of my favorite TV shows. Unfortunately, this production didn't live up to the show. Klea Blackhurst was wonderful as Hazel. However, the material was dismal and had none of the charm of the original TV show - aside from a few quotes of "doozy," Hazel's signature phrase. The writers managed to ruin a charming concept with elements of aliens, Government Agencies, women in the workforce (which was never an issue in the series - Dorothy worked as an interior designer without an issue) and an odd romance. Design elements, themes and casting had no relation to the Shirley Booth show (aside from Blackhurst). While the cast was obviously talented, that talent was wasted with unimaginative music, subpar choreography, and a lackluster script that dragged on for 2 1/2 hours. And don't get me started on the poor goldfish that spends the show being shaken and sloshed, all in the name of a musical number.

    Yes Hazel!

by Anonymous on 5/15/16Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

"Hazel" is a fun recall back to the TV sitcom but is relevant today. The cast was superior. The songs were well-written and executed. Special shout-out to Klea Blackthorn and Meghan Murphy for their outstanding performances!

    Very enjoyable

by Bob1402 on 5/11/16Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

I took my wife to the play and dinner for her birthday. We both enjoyed our evening out.. The theater has been remodeled since I was last there and is very nice. The play Hazel was very funny and the cast was great. I really enjoyed the performances of the three kids. Had great seats and it is nice not to have to go downtown for a play as well as the free parking. My steak was a little tough but my wife really enjoyed her Salmon dinner. I thought that I had prepaid for most of it at $50 in advance but still got hit for another $35 for coffee, a glass of wine and the tip. It was a fun play to watch.
