    Fagen is brilliant

by Encie on 8/19/17Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

Unfortunately, the sound engineering was completely lacking. Perhaps Donald Fagen should only entertain in outdoor venues. Have seen him many times and never been disappointed in sound technology. What a travesty to be unable to understand anything he said while introducing the next number. Not to mention lyrics. Although I already knew every lyric, it would've still been nice to hear them. I left the show feeling sad. As opposed to feeling exhilarated, as was my expectation based on the many times I've seen him perform in the past. Sorry to be negative, but this is my honest review.

Really memorable show with solo music, lots of Steely Dan, great small band and really interesting opening act. We loved it!

    Outrageous!

by mlvc1fan on 8/19/17Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I am a HUUUGE Steely Dan fan, so I was slightly reluctant to check this out, but this show knocked my socks off!! The band's members are so young, but they were fantastic. They did not disappoint! They played enough Steely Dan tunes to keep the die-hards satisfied. It's amazing that after 40 years, Donald Fagen still plays with the such intensity and passion - a truly incredible artist! 95% of the audience were middle-aged and older, but I took my 15 year-old son and he had a great time as well. The venue was small and intimate (Atlanta Symphony Hall), which made for a truly amazing sound, but it was NOT COOL that no dancing was allowed so as to not obstruct the view for the people behind you. I am Latina, so for me not to dance...ay!

A great evening of fun and music

Donnie and the kiddos did a great job. The music was point on and the young guys of the new band were top notch.

If You Love Steely Dan / Donald Fagen ...

by SouthernGent63 on 8/19/17Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

First, let me just express my appreciation for Donald Fagen and his continued ability to excite a crowd and keep its interest going. Dude is not young any more but his energy level is that of a 20 year old, near the age of most of his new band the NightFlyers. The Atlanta Symphony Hall's acoustics or the sound system led to multiple moments of inability to discern individual words spoken or sung by the performers. This didn't detract this night as it might otherwise since we all seemed to know every word to every song.

Mix was bad. Bass to loud. Fagen's voice was hard to hear in half the songs.

    Great show!

by mwll on 8/19/17Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I have always loved Steely Dan's music. I've been to other shows but this one was especially good. Donald was wonderful as always, and his band but was just unbelievable! Such talented musicians. A good song list. It was a fun evening.

    Tight group!

There were moments I felt like I was listening to a Steely Dan or Donald Fagen album. The Nightflyers are top notch! Don't miss this concert.

    Perfection and Grace!

by LuvJazzAlabama on 8/17/17Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - Montgomery

Definitely a smile on my face! Seeing Donald Fagen in a solo concert has been on my bucket list for years. I was so delighted when I learned he was touring this year and blessed to be able to see him in Montgomery! The Nightflyers were great and did a decent job backing him up. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased at their vocals. I was disappointed that the lead guitarist did not do the exact classic Larry Carlton-esque guitar solo on "Kid Charlemagne" that Jon Herington has mastered with the Steely Dan band. That was a disappointment. Overall, the show was wonderful and a realization of my dream! I felt I was among kindred spirits as I met people who had driven from Florida and Mississippi to see him. If you are a Fagen fan, it's worth every penny and every minute of your time to go see Donald and the Nightflyers.

Don't miss a chance to witness Donald Fagen!!!

by SixRRanch on 8/17/17Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - Montgomery

Friday night with Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor at Fenway Park was fabulous. But then Donald Fagen Monday night in Montgomery was incredible. They played and played until we were totally worn out from the experience. Possibly one of the best concerts ever. They went through the catalog of songs, each replicating the original perfectly. This is a must see concert this year.

Donald Fagen gave a fantastic performance!!!

by Happylee on 8/17/17Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - Montgomery

I didn't know what to expect. I saw Steely Dan in concert 45 years ago, but must say that Donald Fagen sounded better than he did all those years ago. So glad I decided to see him in concert!

The band was great overall. All great songs played. The bass was muddled and detracted from the music.

    Much Better than expected !

by JetMechRocker on 8/15/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

Obviously Donald Fagan is an icon, but at 66 I didn't know how much energy he would put into his show but he really delivered ! The musicians he had on stage were in their 20's but sounded seasoned , nice to see that it doesn't have to be all old guys - class act.

    Such a great show!

by Anonymous on 8/15/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

Fun to see Donald with a bunch of young very talented kids....he was more of a focal point than we he's with the full steely Dan group. Played good steely songs...and nice selection of Fagan tunes

    Fabulous

by JeffUCF on 8/14/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

DF was great. He played like he felt 20 years younger with this new band of 20- and 30-something behind him. Guitarist Conor Kennedy stole the show. I hope they go into the studio as a unit to record something, hopefully with Walter Becker.

Wanted a Donald Fagen Show, Got a Steely Dan Show.

by TheMrB on 8/14/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

First the good, the sound was great and the band was very good. Connor Kennedy on lead guitar was excellent. What I was really hoping for from this show was to hear Donald Fagen's solo work. We got exactly four songs, three from The Nightfly and one from Kamakiriad. Nothing from Morph the Cat or Sunken Condos. They performed a great cover of the Grateful Dead's Shakedown Street, which was excellent. Also a Chuck Berry cover was thrown in. The remaining eleven songs were Steely Dan covers. I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed the Dan covers and the show, but here's the thing. In the past four years, Donald Fagen has toured with Steely Dan through the central Florida area three times. I attended two of those tours and loved them. I was really hoping that by touring solo Mr. Fagen would have presented much more of his solo work, which is fantastic and deserves to be heard live. Judging by what I overheard post-concert, I'm not the only person who felt this way.

    Heart n soul

by brunozig on 8/14/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

Donald and company wrung out the essence of rock n roll from the 1970's and 80's. The younger band members were very tight, professional, and fun to watch... Donald belted out hit after hit with only a slight miss a couple of times for high note searching or sound tech issue...(hardly worth mentioning) Great set list and drum solo!

Outstanding show, Fagen mentoring young talent

by T1964 on 8/14/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

This is commentary on Donald Fagen and the Nightflyers show, not a Steely Dan show. They did play five or six Steely Dan hits, which were all excellent. If you've ever been to a Dan show, you respect the musicianship. That is equally true here, maybe more so in some ways because the 20-somethings Fagen is playing with are so versatile. Fagen also seems more animated during this tour. He loves his band with Steely Dan, that is clear, but there's a renewed energy with this group of guys that is readily apparent. New Frontier was great, as were Dan hits FM. Bhodisattva was especially good and brought the house down. If you like really top notch musicians who take their performances seriously, then this is a must see!

Donald Fagen & The Nightflyers - Hard Rock

by VinP on 8/14/17Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

Saw these guys at Ruth Eckard in Clearwater on a Wednesday and was able to get tickets for the show in Orlando on Friday. Orlando show was much better. Both shows were great but the band just played better on Friday. Seemed like they are getting more comfortable playing with Donald.
