    Sad, sad, sad

by omjorek on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

I was so excited about this concert. Three fabulous musicians in one place. I was expecting to be entertained for two hours with Steely Dan tunes, Doobie Brothers tunes, and Boz Scaggs' hits. Instead, we listened to the back up singers singing lead vocals and songs from The Grateful Dead and Ray Charles. Michael McDonald cannot hit his high notes at all anymore which made me sad that he even tried. We stayed for 1.5 hours before we left and at that time they had only played four songs that they were known for. And they weren't chart topping hits either.

    Fagan's Genius

by jlancaster on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Amazing back-up band and singers help provide one of the best all-time "seniors" shows I've seen. The crowd in Atlanta was rather subdued through the first couple of songs, but jumped to their feet and danced mostly the rest of the show when Boz Scaggs played his old hits. Michael McDonald's distinctive voice is still a thrill, but the magic is gone. He cannot wail any longer and the band or backup vocalists had to take over for him on several of his solos. The reason to attend this show, however, is to witness the genius of Donald Fagan, that is as strong as ever. He may look like an older man, but he plays, sings, and leads the group like someone half his age. He obviously loves what he is doing - and he does it better than anyone else. I would have paid double - my ticket was $69.00 - to see him perform. And perform he did. If you are a Scaggs or Fagan fan, you will be delighted with this show. However, if you go to see Michael McDonald sing, you will be disappointed. McDonald did, however, provide fine back --up piano, banjo and uke.

    Dikes of September

by gman77 on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

A little disappointed in the song selection, definitely could have use a few more Steely Dan songs. The backup band was very solid, very strong backup singers. The songs they did play were performed well. Enjoyed the Boz Scaggs perfomances very much. Reelin' In The Years was a big hit with the crowd.

    Fair

by LRAATL on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

These 3 guys have such a broad and exciting repetoire of music yet they chose to sing someone else's songs for much of the evening devoting 2 songs to their back up singers. I didn't pay to hear the back up singers. I recently attended a concert of Boz Scaggs and it was amazing - I was totally disappointed in this performance. I have seen Fagan in concert before and it was amazing. Not this one. I don't care about hearing them sing music from "The Band'. I want to hear them sing their songs. When they did sing their own music, the crowd went wild. When they sang songs that others were not as familiar with, the crowd was lukewarm. I would not recommend this concert to anyone as I think it undermines the quality of the performers.

    Dukes were a bore

by gr8gators on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Other than singing a few of their hit "oldies", the concert was pretty boring. The audience was begging them to sing the songs we know and they played a bunch of stuff no one could identify them with. It was a huge disappointment.

Boz Slow Dancer, Michael What a Fool Believes and Steely Fagen Reelin in the Years what could be better. If I only heard those three songs it would still have been fantastic.

    Not as advertised

by JCL1 on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

While it is often great to see old friends, you want a chance to reminisce. There were a few moments like "Takin It to the Streets", "Reelin' in the Years", and "Lowdown" that were great, but unfortunately these were the exception and not the rule. I didn't come to hear them do to their own personal tribute to The Band (3 different songs) or to sing "Help Me Rhonda" (their encore #). The 2 backup singers were excellent and I would've rather heard them sing other people's music than the "Dukes of September". There were so many hits that any of these 3 could have sang but didn't. All in all nice show, but it had a lot more potential that was never realized.

Dukes of September a little Lame

by Tatgen on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Overall we were disappointed in the concert along with several people around us. We heard AFTER we bought our tickets that they were going to be doing some of their favorite songs from other recording artists which was disappointing. I've been a musician for 30 years and I wasn't familiar with many of the songs that they performed. When they did one of their own recordings the crowd went wild. " Lowdown" from Boz Skaggs, "Reeling in the Years" from Donald Fagan and "Taking It to the Streets " by Michael McDonald got the biggest applause. They ended the night with "help me Rhonda" by The Beach Boys -- not a big Beach boys fan.

    Dukes of September was awesome

by Tubadoc on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Had the best time at this concert last night (Atlanta, 8/26). High energy, incredible band and back-up singers! I thought their song choices were great, their "chops" are still impressive, and they were all about having a good time. That means I did too!

    Tight Band

by friendofbills on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

OMG! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. It was nice that there was a mix of oldies and types of music. The girl singers were incredible! Michael, Donald and Boz still have wonderful voices and talent, and the whole band was tight. Wonderful experience! You could tell they put a lot of work and practice into this production!

The Dukes of September rock in Alpharetta

by Maui4me on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Overall very good. Tremendous energy from Boz, Michael and Donald. The backup band and singers were excellent. Would have liked to have heard more of their original songs. Certainly worth the ticket price!

What a Combo! Fagan McDonald & Scaggs!!

by KimKR on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Who would've thought that Fagan and Scaggs could duo on a Beach Boys tune and sound amazing? These 3 are the KINGS of COOL!!! Boz Scaggs was my 1st 8 track cassette, I've been loving Fagan forever, and EVERY McDonald song is on my IPOD. Fagan's music is complicated to play and my husband (a guitarist) agress that they did a WONDERFUL job!!! Boz is a cool as ever, and Michael is still a hunk of soul love!!!

    Dukes of September

by justk1 on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

I've seen Micheal McDonald many times as well as Donald Fagen. Had not seen Boz Scaggs. Was not disappointed and he seemed to be a crowd favorite. I enjoyed the variety of music and the pace of the show. The horn section was amazing as well as the rest of the musicians. With that said, the concert lasted 1.5 hours. Could have easily listened to another hour of favorites from each of the artists. But I guess that's a good thing; leave the crowd wanting more. All in all a great evening!

    Dukes of September

by gman3 on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

The show was flat and there was little symbiosis. Surprisingly Boz Scaggs put on the best performance. Michael McDonald still has a great and unique voice. Donald Fagen showed very little of his old self. People came to hear them sing their old songs which they did little of. Help me Rhonda for an encore???

    Just wanted more!

by cowen54 on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Very enjoyable, a real treat to see and hear these three play together. My only regret is that the show was not long enough (2 hours) to do justice to the song library available to these three great artists. A few songs were a bit obscure for the audience (Love TKO and Greatful Dead), but on the other hand the Ray Charles and Areatha Franklin tunes were killer. If you are even thinking about it, you got to go.

    Dukes of September was good

by MRC12 on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

All the musicians were very good, but I was disappointed Boz Scaggs didn't play more of his hits. Played too many unrecognizable songs and had their back up girl singers singing solos - what's up with that? Didn't pay to hear the back up girls sing!

    Dukes were kind of dull

by middleagedmomma on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Some awesome, original music heard by these artists, especially Michael McDonald, but should have been clued in by the "revue" part of the title. I guess after successful careers they have the right to just play the music they love, but we were disappointed not to hear more of the Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs that we loved.

    Could have been better

by NotMyCupofTea on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

With the 3 musicians involved, this show had the potential to be great. Sadly, it wasn't so great. Kept waiting for them to play more of their big hits, but that didn't happen. Played a FEW, but not many. Played a lot of things that weren't theirs. For their encore, at which time it would have been a perfect opportunity to play some of their best tunes, they broke out into "Help Me Rhonda." These are 3 fantastic musicians with multiple mega-hits attributable to them ... but the set-list was disappointing. Sorry guys ... not my cup of tea.

Played very few of their own hits

by ttmmjj on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Played more hits from other bands than their own. Disappointed--didn't go to hear them sing Beach Boys.

    "Dukes" the kings of R & B

by Youngetal on 8/27/10Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

The "Dukes of September Rhythm Revue," featuring Donald Fagan, Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald, was an opportunity to see three musicians perhaps known for other types of music performing their favorite R & B from the 50's and 60's. All three were in top form and who knew Donald Fagan was such an exciting boogie woogie pianist? This was no "Steely Dan" or "Doobie Brothers" performance. The bulk of the setlist was tunes chosen by the guys because THEY loved the tunes. The backup band was tight and kept things moving, and the casual atmosphere (Don primarily played piano and introduced each tune like he was in a night club) was loose and fun. Things slowed a bit with a 3-tune section of songs from "The Band" but otherwise, it was a rollicking evening. Could have lived without "What a Fool Believes," but the rest of the crowd surely loved it.
