About

As the country music superstar behind an estimated 100 million album sales, a successful film career, and her very own theme park Dollywood, Dolly Parton is one of American music’s most enduring icons. On tour in 2013 Parton continued to captivate fans with her engaging live concerts, treating ticket buyers to career-spanning sets of her greatest hits peppered with compelling personal stories while building anticipation for the release of her 42nd studio album in 2014. Parton released her 41st studio album Better Day in 2011, a country-dance hybrid that topped charts around the world and spawned the hit single “Together You and I”. After a musical childhood in the Great Smoky Mountains, Parton headed for Nashville the day after her high school graduation, eventually achieving mainstream success in the early ‘70s with a string of No. 1 hits including “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You”. It’s hard to overstate the scope of Parton’s accomplishments since then – from 25 No. 1 singles to the blockbuster success of films like 9 to 5 and Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, she 's become a beloved household name and recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Excellent!

by redlifesaver23 on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Dolly put on a great show. A wonderful mix of old and new tunes. Personally, I prefer the older stuff, and was pleasantly surprised that she made time for all the classics. Of course, she did sing quite a few things off her new album to promote it, but even that was good. She was funny, brass, and all around enthusiastic during the whole performance. I would definitely go see her again... and would love to visit the venue again in the near future.

    First time to see Dolly

by etscott on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

I really enjoyed the concert, Dolly Parton is very personal with the audience. Right off in the beginging she asked everyone to set down so the others could see. She really worked the audience. I guess I don't have much to complain about , I paid to see her and that I did. She was honest and upfront, and it made you feel like you were friends. I hadn't realized how many insturments she knew how to play amazing. I took my sister with me, this was on our BUCKET LIST.

Dolly puts on a great show. She is a very talented lady. She sang the songs that we enjoyed listening to on her cd's and movies. Dolly is amazing at playing all the instruments she plays as well. We really enjoyed the show. We drove 3 hours to see her. Verizon Theater is a great venue for this type show. It was my 2nd time to see a performance there.

    Dolly Wound Up

by MrMikieT on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Concert was great. She did spend to much time talking and not enough singing. Show ran very long and on a week night makes it kind of tough.

    Amazing concert!

by MrGort on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Dolly Parton is a dynamite performer. We loved the show, sorry we could only get 2 encores ;-) Dolly's voice is powerful, soft, simple, complex, engaging and ethereal. She sings each song with heart and love. A great band as well. There when the song needed it and quite when not. And did I mentioned she played at least 8 instruments during the show! Thank you Dolly for a wonderful evening.

    Audience Inattention

by Brandoof on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Dolly's singing was fine, though the music was a bit overamped and some of her lyrics were hard to hear. This is, unfortunately, characteristic of many big venue events. In any event, her song choices were good and her stage personality is very appealing. More irritating were audience members who chose to talk during the performance, including on their cell phones, and at times to accompany Dollie in her singing. As another vexed audience member said to one of the amateur singers, "I did not pay this much money to come and hear you sing." Amen. Some of this inconsiderate behavior is no doubt due to general declines in public behavior, and some is due to the Verizon theater serving copious amounts of alcohol, after which some audience members lose all sense of propriety. I recommend the theater devote a bit more effort to policing rude and loud behavior by audience members, who manage to spoil what is otherwise a well crafted performance.

Dolly Parton:the American Dream Come True

by LaRue2 on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Fantastic performance! The showmanship, the energy, the singing , were all done with flair, poise, and creativity. The warm and friendly amosphere she created by her mere presence on that stage made everybody smile and just feel happy to be there. I know her age,but she danced and pranced like a 16 yearold. And she was so lovable when she talked about her impoverished background, her family, and her hard climb to fame. I also learned Dolly is one of the country's leading advocates for early childhood education. Her foundation is using her Imaginary Library idea to promote reading skills through family partication...getting parents and caretakers to read to children the familiar books that lay the foundation for understanding our culture, I would go see the show again and again.

    Dolly defines an entertainer

by ECdoc on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

I loved Dolly. She spent two and a half hours on stage, giving the audience her best. She showed her incredible musical ability by playing 10 different instruments during the show. She danced, joked and told about her life. She fully connected with the audience. After decades as an entertainer, she still is one of the greatest.

Dolly was greater than I expected. Love her!!!

    by lillykate on 7/21/11

I laughed, I cried (Coat of Many Colors does it to me EVERY time), I sang along. I was in AWE! So glad I went and brought my daughter too. She is 21 and was not totally excited at first but she LOVED it too and is a total fan now. I also loved the very eclectic crowd too, everyone must love Dolly! Costumes were good and she looked great!! Maybe consider some more changes though because I would love to see more cool bedazzled outfits.

    Dolly never ages!

by Anonymous on 7/21/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand Prairie

Dolly's voice, music, looks and humor have stayed the same for a number of years. She is a terrific entertainer--she was onstage singing and visiting for a full two hours! She was great!
