It was epic, once in a lifetime show from two of the greatest ever representing yet another legend.
The Skyway theater is set up a little different than other venues. Converted from an old movie theater, the area before the stage slopes upwards. It seems a little weird at first, but since it does this, people standing at the back of the auditorium can actually see the show rather clearly. The sound system seemed like it could use a little balance. DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist put on a great show. For this tour they are playing the Afrika Bambaataa collection, which is seriously as much a history lesson as it is a musical experience. The set would not seem out of place at an art museum. Which is awesome.
True dj skills elevating to an art form... loved every minute...
This show was pure energy! Dj Shadow and Cut Chemist put on an amazing show.
Still using turntables to mix music instead of Computer. Very entertaining
I'm a huge fan of DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist, but was very disappointed that they were doing a tribute show to Afrika Bambaata. I was looking forward to seeing them spin their own tunes and it didn't happen. If I would have known that this was the show I wouldn't have attended.
Classic vinyl mixed by legendary dj's. What else could you ask for?
dj shadow never fails to impress, and this show with cut chemist was no exception. highly recommend if you love the art of dj'ing, history of hip hop, funk, soul and afrika bambaataa.
In this era of canned/computerized "hip-hop", which basically is bland and boring, this show was a breath of fresh air, a true ray of sunshine. Actually it was frickin' incredible, possibly a once in a lifetime even. Shadow and Chemist, each with 3 turntables and the entire Afrika Bambatta album library at their fingertips put on a show like no other. No MC's, nothing fancy, just incredible music by two of the best in the biz. Go see this show!
Shadow and Cut put on a history lesson and display of skill that is must for any lover of Hip Hop to see live.
Hands down, one of the tops shows I've seen. Shadow and Cut chemist kill it on this tour. If your a fan of the origins of hip hop, of old school breaks, vinyl, scratch DJ's, and Bamabatta you don't want to miss this show.
What a wonderful tribute to Afrika Bambaataa. They did a great job making it about the music and not promotion them selves as DJ's pr their own music. This was quite the experience.
Fascinating, funky, intense, incredible. I caught myself standing with my mouth agape more than once at the skill and the sound.
This show was excellent. 2 hour set, great opening act, and two superb DJs doing what they love!
This show is something very special that you do not want to miss! It was like a history lesson of funk, disco, dance, hiphop & breakbeat.
It was absolutely insane. The mixer of different 70's and 80's music was amazing. It was hip hop in it purest form.
While I would have loved to hear Shadow / Chemist play originals -- this show blew my mind. I called in sick next day to try and process the ridonkulous display of Tandem DJing, scratching, mixing - I mean it was the best of that genre I have EVER seen. Highest possible recommendation from a Live Music junkie!
This wasn't just two turntablism geniuses playing together. This was documentary being performed live, covering the music of many times and regions, as captured by Afrika Bambaataa. The music was fantastic, as were the visuals. I really liked how they introduced different sets that had a specific time or location.
