Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

The Detroit Red Wings have played their home games at Little Caesars Arena(Opens in new tab) in the heart of downtown Detroit since the 2017–2018 season. Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams—the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL)—in one downtown core in the country.

  • First game at LCA

by Max on 10/6/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Wings lost 3-2, preseason against the Penguins. Reffs blew a call with 3 mins left in the 3rd. Overpaid for seats by about $70. Got to see Crosby, Malkin and Letang though. Worth it.

    by M. W. on 6/28/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Me and my girlfriend went to the Minnesota wild vs Detroit on march 10th and it was an awesome experience. It happened to be star wars night(we didn’t know before hand). The lines to get in were fast. Line in the store was long but again fast. All around good experience. Will return for more games for sure!

  • Awesome game with great Atmosphere with seats made for kids

by BCSKI on 4/26/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

I love going to the games at little Caesar’s because I love the Wings. The games are always good and the atmosphere is always roaring but the seats were designed to fit children. They are tiny.

  • Fantastic evening!

by Dean on 4/15/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Little Caesars is such a hospitality driven venue, I’m pretty sure a non hockey fan would have loved the evening, well done!

  • Good night almost

    by Detroitsportsfan21 on 4/12/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Went to the game with my sons, it was a comfortable experience and we enjoyed the food and drinks. The game was exciting and the staff friendly. Prices are higher than ever, would like to see a break on alcohol. The atmosphere was rocking and the crowd was into a meaningless game. Overall a good time except for the loss.

  • High up

by Wingzgirl on 4/12/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

I have never been to Little Ceasars Arena before. I didn't think it would be terrible since it isn't that old of an Arena. Beware of the seats in the 200's sections. It is very high up and a very steep incline. I was afraid to move too much in my seat.

  • Great Game

by Shell on 4/8/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Venue is amazing and the game was fantastic!!! Our seats were incredible 😀Will definitely go again and again.

  • Mixed feelings

    by Dbowen6 on 3/29/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Everything leading up to the event itself was extremely positive, we contacted the venue about accommodations for our autistic child and they were more than willing to work with us. Entering a sold out arena was smooth and efficient, the common areas are a treasure trove of nostalgia for a lifelong Red Wings fan. Unfortunately, the upper bowl seats were quite uncomfortable, barely enough leg room for my 5'1" wife and 5'4" teenager, not to mention myself at 6'. Concession prices are comparable to other arenas we have visited, but the fountain drinks were overly watered down and the "whole" deep dish pizza was smaller than the single slice of regular pizza. If possible, I would have rated 3.5 out of 5

  • Phenomenal Game

by M Pell on 3/14/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great game! Went to a shootout (unfortunately we lost), was a high scoring game and had an epic fight! Even the goalies got in on the action. Seats were great - we were in the lower level faceoff.

  • Awesome experience at LittleCaesars Arena

  • Original 6 teams

by Granny on 3/1/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Wings were a little slow in the 1st 2 periods but the 3rd period was awesome. I've never been to any game that the fans rocked the house. Watching maple leafs and the wings (Original 6) is always a very entertaining game.

  • I Loved It.

by LawRuh on 2/26/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first Red Wings game ever and I loved every second of it. The seats were also great as well.

  • Dismal

by Disappointed on 2/5/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

Covid positive, couldn’t attend event, asked for assistance from customer service twice. Request was never answered. Couldn’t sell our seats. Very disappointed in the lack of service. Disappointed children and bitter parents in our home.

  • Redwings & LCA

    by L. U. on 1/29/22Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Always a great time at Little Caesar’s Arena. Clean and great venue. Little pricey but no more than anywhere else. All the employees were helpful and courteous. Looking forward to #19 and #5 making it happen in the D!

Venue is great - lots of interesting displays, clean, easily accessible, friendly & helpful staff, plenty of concessions, Good visual sightlines and video - unless you're sitting at the top on the sides.
