Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

  • No one was there to take our food order!

by CC on 10/22/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

We needed to eat dinner before the show began and kept being promised that a waiter would arrive and never did. When we were able to drag someone to our table, told her we needed to order our pizzas and drinks. Reply was we stopped serving food at 7:30 and there'll be no more food service tonight. Due to poor service at an expensive event, we sat uncomfortable without food, so the paid entertainment value was lost.

Going to a Wings game is something that everyone should experience. The atmosphere is absolutely like no other. The energy is incredible. The team puts their all out there and leaves it on the ice. It should never be a question if you should go to a Wings game - the answer will always be YES.

  • Best Atmosphere

by JB on 10/18/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best if not the best atmospheres in all of hockey. Been to many arenas in the NHL, and LCA Red Wing fans are very noisy and very knowledgeable. Awesome!

  • Loved the atmosphere

    by Yzer19 on 10/17/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Wow what an opening night!! Bought tickets just before the game and they were overpriced for the seats. I have bought much cheaper seats that were in a much better location in the past. So disappointed, wish we could buy tickets like we did in the past and not from ticketmaster 😞 overall loved the game though

  • Great

Amazing feeling! Great expirience in this building.

  • Little Caesars Arena is beautiful.

by Marlies vs Res Wings on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

My first time visiting Little Caesars Arena and ir is absolutely beautiful. I have gone to many hockey games in Joe Louis Arena but it was getting old and tired. These tickets are a yearly road trip for my son and I. I know this is not Ticket Masters fault that Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t play their regular players. This was very disappointing to pay over $100.00/each ticket to see the Marlies players vs Detroit Red Wings regular players. My son loved it cause he is a Red Wings fan. I am glad I got to see this new arena. This was more important than the preseason game.

  • Great game

    by Deni55 on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

What’s not to like about a visit to Little Caesar’s Arena? The staff are all smiles and friendly and helpful. The views of the ice from every seat are excellent. The best of course is that the Wings beat the Laffs, doesn’t matter that it was pre-season it’s still a win and it kept the Laff fans quiet on the bus ride back to Windsor.

  • A thrilling Wings and Leafs preseason game

by Dylan on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Overall, this preseason matchup between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs was a testament to the enduring appeal of hockey as a family-friendly sport. It offered edge-of-the-seat excitement, a remarkable comeback story, and an atmosphere that made fans feel like a part of something special. A night at the arena like this is a memory that families will cherish for years to come.

  • Incredible

    by Redranger1981 on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Being a huge hockey fan since I was a kid, it has always been on my bucket list to be able to see a game with one of the Original 6 teams and to be able to see two teams out of the six for one game was a dream come true. Great arena, great atmosphere. Unbelievable experience and I will never forget it.

  • NHL VS AHL

by Just a fan on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

I felt like I was taken around the corner and robbed. I understand that it was preseason, but to have the Leafs only play a few regulars and to bring a total AHL lineup was a little too much. The sad thing is that the Wings just barely beat them.

  • Amazing experience!

by kosmast on 10/10/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great event, with events and a whole show, that kept everyone up for the whole game. Totally worth it.

  • Awesome experience

by Rhonda on 9/29/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I attended the first home pre season game. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was so much fun! Lots of crowd interactions, giveaways and of course the Wings played great! All staff were kind and helpful! Can’t wait to go to another game!

  • Wow! Spectacular!

by Lorraine on 4/11/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was amazing! The food and beverage selection incredible! The seats so comfortable!

  • Red Wings vs Penguins

    by Steviey1972 on 4/11/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The arena and the game experience were great but paying almost $200 to sit about 5 rows from the top of the arena is a bit much. Ticket prices throughout the arena need to be more family-friendly. I paid $107 apiece for 2 tickets and sat on the glass in Ottawa about 3 weeks ago. Once again, game experience and the arena were wonderful but ticket prices are way too high.

  • Great time, too bad they lost

by Mike on 4/11/23Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We really enjoy going to events at LCA, especially Wings games. Only bad thing is they lost. Next season :-)

Good directions to parking facilities, lots of security present, easy entry via etickets, good food, great seats and fantastic staff to answer questions, arena is the best, great fans weather for or against, easy and safe exit. Will definitely go again. Our thanks to all involved.

Great venue and lively atmosphere. Nice seating. Game was good for first two periods but was over quickly in the third. Overall, however, first trip to Little Caesars Arena, and it didn't disappoint.
