Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

  • LCA is an amazing arena!

by Flredwing on 10/23/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

From the moment you enter the grounds you realize this is not a normal arena. The area outside the arena has a bar and games to play. Then you go inside the arena and bars, restaurants and stores are everywhere. A great experience!

  • Beautiful arena, but be wary of obstructed views.

by AKup on 10/19/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The new arena is incredible. Very clean with many new bars and attractions. Seats are comfortable and HALLELUJAH for cup holders! My one gripe is regarding the upper bowl seating for sections 223-230. The new gondola suites sit above these sections and obstruct the views of the Jumbotron. TVs are built into the gondola to project what shows on the Jumbotron, but they were delayed. Also, since this arena is much steeper than the Joe, be prepared to lean forward to be able to see play along your side of the boards — some people chose to stand for the duration of the game because of this. These are minor blemishes in what I consider an excellent hockey venue.

  • Love the new arena

by WheresSvechnikov on 10/19/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Ok, so it's not as intimate as The Joe, but it's a great arena. Lots of helpful staff to help you navigate the new building. There's still not enough time to visit a washroom AND get a beer between periods however as the lines are long everywhere, which is what a new arena should alleviate, but what do I know..

  • Great Party for Wings Fans

by Gigi43125 on 10/14/17Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Very nice fan appreciation viewing party. Surprised that it also included pizza, chili dog and pop. Draft beer was only $1 all night long. Great party with games and tee shirt give aways. Can't wait to go again.

Lots of friendly people to help you, lots of seats, lots of good food and drink.

  • by Chuck326 on 10/13/17Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Just too much beer the price of beer should be raised or drinks have a limit other than two at a time.

Awesome new arena for the most part didnt like how in my section 226 couldnt see the top of the scoreboard and very steep stairs and seats look like they would be more comfortable compared to the joe but they are not

  • LCA

by hocketn on 10/3/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Sat in the Gondola seats. Great view amazing scoreboard. But you can not hear the PA or the music ,I suggest putting speakers on the beams above these seats

  • Redwings game @ Little Caesars's Arena was amazin

    by 1941Ford on 10/3/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The arena was real nice, nice seats & views. the parking was really handy, especially being able to have parking lined up before the game.Good game, however, the Wings didn't hold their lead.

  • Grand Arena

by Winging on 10/2/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The new Arena is great! I would recommend going to LCA for a Red Wings/Pistons game. I was sitting in the very last row at the top and the ice view was awesome. The only thing I would say is that the aisle in the row was still very narrow and my foot was frequently hitting the cup holder.

  • Red Wings vs Toronto

by Mblackwe on 10/2/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

I absolutely love the new arena. It seemed like it took forever to build but seeing as that we were getting updates every step of the way it seemed like they built it super fast. The layout is great, the concourse is really wide, hopefully once the season kicks in they don’t fire a bunch of the staff and be like every other grand opening where your amazed at how helpful everyone is and once things get going you can’t find help to save your soul. Mr Ilich would be proud of his dream.

  • Seats

by DanielTaco on 10/2/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The arena is amazing on the outside. Inside on the other hand is a different. Is you sit in the upper 200 sections on the side of the rink, almost un watchable . You look at the back of the gondola seats / suites. You cannot see the Nhl's largest seemless scoreboard. You also have to lean forword to see the game being played. From what ive seen of this new arena is that its only good if you are willing two shell out a lot of money to see a game in good seats. This arena is caters to only the wealthy people. Joe louis arena had great views from 99 percent of seats.

  • First visit to LCA for a game

    by BigBeno2005 on 10/2/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Upper bowl seats are extremely steep. And you cannot see the people across the stadium due to the press and suite boxes hanging from the center of the building. Not the greatest price point for 70.00 seats. Other than that the building is beautiful.

  • by Anonymous on 10/2/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The LCA is incredible. Just a gorgeous place to see a game. Our DRM seats were also a unique aspect. The product on the ice however, is going to be rough. The prices are also outrageous for a team that likely won't make the playoffs.

  • by Anonymous on 10/1/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

This new arena is really nice, but the ticket prices are too steep for my budget. I can't see how they will be able to sustain it in this market with this price points, but maybe they see something I don't. Don't understand the purpose of the gondola seating, when it blocks the whole side upper sections view of the new scoreboard. Row 6 seemed to be the cut off.

  • Probably the nicest 1980's arena opened in 2017

by MNCLIFF on 9/27/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Little Ceasar's Arena captured the worst of 1980's era arenas, then shot itself up with steroids. This venue typifies old design with no open concourses. Walking the corridors is like any mall and the only indication that you are at a sports arena is the abundance of patrons in team jerseys, stadium quality /priced food, and the occasional odd wall display the would fit in any sports store. Once you walk up a narrow hall you begin to realize things are about to get worse. Suspended from the ceiling are two goal-end to goal-end gondolas that hold additional luxury boxes and apparently press boxes. Fans sitting in the upper bowl look directly into the back of these abhorrences and cannot see across the arena. The site line before them permits viewing of the playing surface but nothing beyond the facing glass. Unless you are sitting upper bowl, goal ends, you have seats that are obstructed view with premium pricing. Upper bowl fans are not part of the crowd experience. I have never had a worse crowd experience. NEVER SIT IN THE UPPER BOWL OR YOU WILL FEEL SUCKERED, DISAPPOINTED, AND EMBARRASSED. Detroit fans deserve better than this tragedy.
