Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams—the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL)—in one downtown core in the country.

  • Tight seating

    by RW24 on 12/6/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

My overall experience was pleasant other than the seating where I sat was very very tight. My knees were right up against the seat in front of me with practically zero leg room. I will not be returning.

by Gizzy on 12/2/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Good game, but the seats do not have enough leg room. Joe Louis stadium was much better.

  • Red Wings Hockey Game

by RAP on 11/30/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The experience itself was great, but the prices - tickets, parking, concessions - yikes! It has become prohibitive.

  • Price Gouging

by Don T on 11/30/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

They gouge you on parking and food & beverage but other than that it was a good time.

  • Fantastic Arena and Amenities

by The Gigman from Winnipeg on 11/26/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Red Wings have a fantastic range of high quality sportswear partnered with quality brands. Excellent concessions and displays throughout the arena. The atmosphere, creative lighting and the big clock are captivating.

  • Good venue, indifferent hockey

by Fellow on 11/26/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Nice place to watch a game. Hockey was sloppy, poor passing, a lot of giveaways

  • Red Wings suck just as bad as the give away

by Double D on 11/26/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Seen 8 to 10 couples having 3 gravy boats and even seen Boston and Detroit fans with 2.

  • Don’t sleep on this venue!

by Becky Ca on 11/12/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

What a beautiful venue! We are NY Rangers fans and, to be honest, there were actually a lot of other NY Rangers fans present. The seats were THE MOST comfortable seats we have EVER sat in at ANY game we’ve EVER gone to! The arena is bright and beautiful and has so many cool things to look at and see. The food and alcohol choices were spectacular and the pricing was on par for what other venues charge. We felt very welcome and very safe. We even walked here from our hotel. It was less than a mile and a very nice walk. This city does not get the credit it deserves. It you ever have a chance to attend a game here, do yourself a favor, and go!! You WILL NOT be disappointed!

  • Great evening

  • Great

by Spick on 10/30/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It’s crazy how prices change by day of the week and opponent but understand it’s consumer driven

  • Our first NHL game. It was awesome!

  • It’s been 20 years

by Tina on 10/7/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Crown interaction is much higher 60$ for 2 double shot rum and cokes is never recommended as you have to poor the second shot yourself and you can’t walk away with both drinks in hand. Scary to get around when your old so handling food drinks for more than one person is very complicated as all caps in water bottles are removed so you have high chance to spill as you try and hold everything with 2 hands . So my take is like making traffic laws you have one accident that is to take a high level of attention merits a new law.

  • A nice evening in Hockeytown

    by Wolf1113 on 7/8/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Attended the picks and sticks event for the Red Wings and found it to be a fun way to stay close to the Wings and have some fun for both adults and kids. Many events were offered including a tent sale of Wings merchandise, most with autographs of former Wings, food, drink, live music indoors, and a DJ playing music outside. All of this with the backdrop of the draft from Vegas playing in the arena. A great night and well performed by the Little Caesar’s organization. Great way to build momentum for the upcoming season. Let’s go Red Wings!!

  • . First time ever to watch a NFL draft.

by Robin on 7/1/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

First time ever watching the NFL Draft and also got to meet Larry Murphy and he signed my jersey. That was pretty amazing. I would go again to watch it ! Let’s Go Redwings !!!!

  • Draft Party Fun!

by DMac on 7/1/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The sales staff did an awesome job hosting the event! Kudos...It was nice to hear from HOF Defenseman Larry at 5-6pm and he signed numerous autographs! Nice to see and get autographs from Ken Kal, Ken Daniel's, Mickey Redmond and Darren McCarthy in the Bud Beir Garden! Plenty of events and things for kids to do...numerous picture opportunities! My only complaint is we had free parking in the garage and walked across 2nd floor walkway to get into VIP event...we're told to take elevator after we were done with event...to get to our 2nd floor car parking...but doors were LOCKED...no one upstairs...had to go all the way back downstairs...walk in front of outside big screen tv...to get to parking garage and take elevator up to 2nd floor. Lot of unnecessary walking!!! Especially for handicap people.

  • Red Wings game

by Mike on 4/20/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Great game. Great parking experience. Telephone ticket was complicated for an old man like me. Delayed getting into the arena because of that, but a young fan helped us with accessing the ticket on the phone. Phone ticket could be simplified somewhat, but overall a great experience.
