Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

The Detroit Red Wings have played their home games at Little Caesars Arena(Opens in new tab) in the heart of downtown Detroit since the 2017–2018 season. Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams—the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL)—in one downtown core in the country.

    by hells53 on 11/28/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

  • Wings game

by drtommitch on 11/26/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The venue is incredible, yet for the price of the tickets to have the gondola block your view, having to stare at the back of the gondola that was blocking one-quarter of the Jumbotron seems unacceptable. Sitting seems too tight with having your knees pretty much on the seat in front of you. It was too steep for many of us to climb more than once. Otherwise, it was incredible, fun and exciting.

  • Got our Money's Worth!

by Gvnagei on 11/23/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We paid for the good seats and used ParkWhiz (and paid for a guaranteed spot). It was easy to get around. We had a great time. Even though the Wings lost, we enjoyed ourselves. Plus, we made it on the jumbo-tron.

Although you could lean back into the wall of the arena we still had an amazing view!

  • Red Wings were Awesome

    by HotRodV6 on 11/22/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The venue itself was really nice, the seat itself was comfy but the lack of leg room really sucked!! The upper section 200’s is very steep to get to and from your seat and anyone over 5’ y’all will not be comfy because you have no leg room and it’s very cramped, worse than an airplane economy seat!!

  • Arena seating

    by Chrissy620 on 11/21/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The arena seating is way too steep! OMG we were in the nosebleed section, okay but I've been up that high before in several venues, i.e. the Joe, the Palace and the Pontiac Silverdome. But I've never felt like I did at Little Caesar's Arena. The seating is so steep that you feel like you are going to fall forward. I could not completely enjoy the game because of it and my friends all agreed. There is barely any leg room either and the stairs are really steep as well.

  • Red Wings Win!

by AngieFoo on 11/20/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great game because the Wings won. It was our first game at LCA, and we sat in the Labatt Blue Club. Although we really enjoyed the new arena, ticket prices and parking fees all skyrocketed this year. Instead of going to multiple games per year, we'll probably become a one game per season family.

  • Come early, enjoy the location. Avoid top 15 rows

by RMBrighton on 11/20/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The developing District area was great. I can't wait till it is finished. LCA was an incredible venue with easy access, decent area parking and lots of fun places to visit and eat. Lot's of open space to walk around w/ the two concourse levels. I really liked the opening full ice surface video montage, before the game. A couple things that I didn't like was the fact that the top 10-15 rows in the upper section do not allow you to view the main jumbo-tron in the center of the arena. Instead, LCA provides what appear to be 55-60" viewing screens that show a smaller version of what's on the big screen or barrage you w/ Little Caesars advertisements. There is some type of luxury box overhang that block the view of the score board. This is at the expense of the patrons seated at the top rows. See attached pictures. I also didn't like the $5 waters and rule that you aren't allowed to keep the caps for the top of the bottles. If you buy several bottles of water w/ food, be prepared to carry the bottles w/ a napkin stuffed into them to minimize spilling. This is a ridiculous rule and should be stopped. Also, if you suffer from vertigo, definitely avoid the upper sections of the upper bowl as the height and pitch of the seats can be intimidating. I didn't mind, but my wife was a little anxious due to the elevation.

  • Horrible Seating at LCA

by ScottHT on 11/20/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

We had seats in Sect. 227 Row 12. This turned out to be horrible seats as the gondola was right in front of us, obstructing our view of the scoreboard. We were extremely disappointed by these seats because after sitting in various places at JLA over the course of 22 years, we never had a bad seat. There are certainly bad seats at LCA.

This was amazing!!! I bought my tickets a month before my birthday and 5 days before my birthday I broke my knee cap...The staff was amazing from the parking structure, to being able to relocate my seats to handy cap area. Everyone was so nice and I had a great birthday! Thank you, Little Ceasers Arena staff!!!

  • Amazing arena - why no escalators to 200 level?

    by Jimmer57 on 11/16/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

I was blown away by the overall atmosphere at LCA, but very disappointed that there aren't any escalators to the 200 level seats. I went up to the balcony/mezzanine and looked all over for the escalator to my seat on the 200 level, only to find out the only options are to take stairs or the ONE elevator servicing fans (I was told the other elevator was exclusively for media/press). I have issues with my back and knees which make it very difficult to go up and down stairs. I would not have expected a brand new arena not to have better accommodations for people who cannot/should not be walking stairs - and one elevator for a 20,000 seat arena is not proper accommodation.

  • Amazing arena

  • First visit to The Slice!

by TKinTroy on 11/14/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Great game at the new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit... my Jackets won 2-1 in a 9-round shootout... Bob was in true Vezina-winning form, and I'm wondering if we saw the first penalty shot in the new building, even though it was missed by Josh Anderson. The new arena and district look incredible from what we saw, with much more work to come. I look forward to seeing a concert there soon, just waiting for the right gig!

  • LCA Wings

by Dmacky on 10/25/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Beautiful arena. Amazing. Lots of rom in concourses. Many bathrooms. No leg room, though, in seats and rows. At least not in upper sections of building. That's disappointing!

  • LCA

by Dmacky on 10/25/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Great facility! Many choices for food and drink. Concourses huge. We sat in upper bowl, leg room non existent. They crammed the seats in up there.

  • wow

by LGRW on 10/24/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The new arena is amazing!!!!!!!! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The construction that is still going on around the arena is a little inconvenient, but not overwhelming. There is so much to look at you almost forget you are there to watch a game. We will definitely be back for another game!!!!
