Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

The Detroit Red Wings have played their home games at Little Caesars Arena(Opens in new tab) in the heart of downtown Detroit since the 2017–2018 season. Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. • Sound Board / Red Wings

by ButchKittle on 1/17/18Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

For watching an away game, this is the best place. You almost feel like your at a home game. The Sound Board / Motor City Casino has my highest vote for any venue. I recommend everyone go.

  • Viewing party

by Catrina951 on 1/17/18Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Was a great time. The only thing you needed to pay for was an alcoholic drink and those were on special. I will be looking into more of these. Shirts were thrown out to the crowd and games played as well.

  • Stadium was not well designed

by Gornowich on 1/10/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

Entering Into the stadium was nice looks of outside of the stadium was nice. Prices were very high . We sat in the upper section and thought that the seats were poorly designed very little room no legroom for taller people the angle of the seating was uncomfortable especially if someone was a afraid of heights, should have a warning before buying these tickets in higher sections. not sure if would come back, pricing for these seats were extremely pricey.

Great game!!! Nice view!!! If the store space is a little wider, the best!

  • Fun Night

by MeatKing on 1/3/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This is the Best Game of the Year! They always give a 120% out there. From my seats I could see everything, and my wife loved it for her first game. Next time I will be in lower bowl, so, the seats are larger for me.

  • Wings game and venue

by Wingnutsteve on 1/3/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely awesome, upper deck a little steep but manageable. Beautiful stadium, lots of room on concourse, seats a little close together but could see the game good. The big screen is the biggest I’ve ever seen. Had a great time with my wife.

  • Only the RICH can afford to go to the Pizza Palace

by PapyDave on 1/3/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Handicapped, retired poor person I had to park as close as possible to event. $40 for parking. So with Blue & White Placard dangling from rear view mirror I was directed to park on 4'th level even though 2'nd level was empty. Bridge is on 2'nd level. Wife has Closter phobia so we hobbled down 2 flights of stairs, crossed into Arena, then up one flight of stairs. Game was great. Seat location was fine. Bar stools designed for tall, long legged persons. Men's bathroom lacked direction arrow to keep line flow correct. $11 for a beer? WHY? Also, leaving venue...No directional signs telling you how to get to expressways.. That sucked too. Next stop: Toledo Hockey.

  • Red Wings versus the Penguins “great experience”

    by Ducey2020 on 1/3/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The new little Caesars arena is “fantastic”. So much history, wide spaces, lots of things to do, different venues for food, and plenty of bathrooms. We sat in the gondola seats (G26) all the way at the top best....seats in the house. If you have an experienced it you need to. Also, the parking situation is great just across the street or within walking distance. We will definitely be coming back to see the Red Wings play.

  • LCA is amazing

    by Bob227 on 12/12/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

#72 portal was awesome. Our usher was great. She helped our time there more memorable. A great time to reminisce for years to come.

  • Poor design

    by 74wings on 12/12/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

The "mall" was great. However, the seating arrangements were terrible. If you enjoy adult pops as Mickey says, don't sit up.

  • new stadium lacks legroom, etc

    by topgun6063 on 12/4/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

the new arena lacks legroom for anyone over 6' in the upper level. I felt like a sardine stuffed into my seat. with the over the ice seating, you can't see across to the other side of the arena, you couldn't see the banners, etc. from my seat I couldn't see the team benches or the players and when people below me leaned forward, I couldn't see the ice surface along the boards. this is basically the same seat that I always sat in at the Joe (between the top of the faceoff circle and the blueline)... disappointed to say the least. needs improvement regarding seating and sightlines to watch the game.

  • Gondola seats block upper bowl

    by G48124 on 12/3/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The gondola seats make the upper bowl seats bad; you can see the ice but the scoreboard and most of the arena is blocked.

  • Great place ot watch a hockey game.

    by Wingsfan88 on 12/1/17Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome scoreboard, great view from my seat, a wide choice of great food outlets. The staff were amazingly helpful.
