Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

  • Research Your Seats!!!

    by Ken111111 on 3/30/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

LCA is a great new arena, only if you know where NOT to sit. We sat in section 213, and our view was blocked up high by the press box and below by everyone's heads in front of us, leaving a small window to see the ice. Those in the front of our section had a fantastic view. Everything else about the new arena was state of the art. Great food options, large open concourse, and great exhibits of team history. If we were in any of the great seats available, we'd giving a 5 star review.

  • First Hockey Game!

As it being my first time going to a hockey game, I absolutely LOVED IT!!! The Arena itself was wonderful and gave me a sense of pride to be there! I went ahead and booked another event because I liked it so much!

The lower bowl seats are nice. They have enough leg room. Our view from section 104 was great.

  • by Anonymous on 3/11/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The game was great. The arena is amazing, but there is no leg room in the seats

  • Way too expensive!!!

    by mikerogo2003 on 3/11/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

Red Wings & LCA have gotten way out of hand with prices. The new arena is beautiful, but they have priced things like this is New York, Chicago or L.A. And with the product the Red Wings are putting on the ice, it doesn't justify spending all that money. 2 tix in the mezzanine, 1LC pizza, and 1 Pop set me back $398.00. Just to witness a boring, lazy performance by the Wings. I usually do 15-18 games a year. But now I believe I will be cutting that down to one.

  • Expected better

    by shaneyb34 on 2/25/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

I expected better sitting in the lower bowl for the first time. My seat was 5 rows off the ice, the seats were so tightly together I was literally arm to arm with the people next to me, and none of us were big people. I was happy to see the cup holders were in the arm rests rather than on the back of the seat in front of you at floor level like the upper bowl. That is until I tried to use it. The arm rest came to my wrist with the last 6 inches or so as the cup holder, so exactly where am I suppose to put my arm if I'm using the cup holder? Without a cup in the holder I am already arm to arm with the person next to me. Needless to say I set my cup on the floor just like I used to at the Joe.

Seats were to far from bench. Had trouble with the people mover.

  • not worth it

by rogerpa on 2/23/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

We had drink rail seats but ended up watching the game on the big screen tv because we couldn't see the ice over the people in the row ahead of us. We could have stayed home and watched on tv with the added benefit of Ken and Mickey calling the action. Given that the arena was probably less than 60% occupied, Caesars should stop selling that row directly in front of the drink rail. Arena ushers and other personnel were great. Parked in the overpriced garage. Signage for entry to the garage was nonexistent and parking attendant tried to wave me past the entrance.

  • Great venue... Great seating!!

by MsDLBR on 2/16/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

My first hockey game was definitely enjoyable...LCA is a great venue. We had awesome seats that provided a clear view of all the action.

  • Little Caesar Arena was excellent for hockey game.

by YspiLou on 2/2/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first visit to little Caesar Arena and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Despite the fact that I had Chicago Blackhawks gear on, and they beat Red Wings 4-2, the staff had a great sense of humor. As we left they said, Thank you for beating our team.

  • Blackhawks Win!!!

by Anonymous on 1/29/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The venue is huge, restaurants were equal to the united center, score board was cool with the information on the underside/inside view. 50% Blackhawk fans / Red Wings fans. Of course Blackhawks winning helped with this great review.

  • Little Caesars Arena upper bowl seating

    by G48124 on 1/29/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

I purchased tickets online and was warned that the mezzanine seating were considered obstructed view. That was due to the clear, plexi-glass partition in front of the front row. I was disappointed to learn that my upper bowl seats had no view of the center ice score board due to the gondola seating hanging down in front of the upper bowl seats. Any of the seats above row 7 (unless you are in the ends of the arena) have no view of the center ice score board. These seats do have an unobstructed view of the ice, but there should be some mention of the obstructed view of the score board. There are small screens mounted to the rear of the gondolas to view instead of the large screen. These seats were unsatisfactory for the money. I paid $239 for two seats in section 225 (face value from the official Red Wings website on the day they went on sale to the public) for the Chicago Blackhawk game and was very disappointed.

  • First visit to the Little Caesars Area Flyers win

    by chuck52 on 1/26/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Section 209 seats are very narrow cup holders make seat to narrow. Section 126 much better seats cup holder are in the seat in front of you. Always see a lot of Orange and black when I come to see the Flyers play.
