Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

  • Red Wings vs Senators

by Sandy on 12/18/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Little Caesars Arena is very impressive. It is also very expensive....starting from parking ($40 to a beer $11 to a piece of pizza or anything else. Even a little bag of peanuts is $5.50) The seats in section 216 row 11 has a claustrophobic type feel to it. Between the wall behind you and the gondola in front of you, it is kind of closed in. All we could see was the ice rink itself. You cannot see the HUGE scoreboard at all. I didn't even know they had one. The seats are a little too narrow. You can't help but encroach on your neighbor. If you are a big person, you might want to purchase 2 seats. It would've been a great idea if they had the arm rests that move up.

  • Great venue, horrible team

    by PatrickE44 on 11/6/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The Venue was fantastic but the game is was absolutely miserable. I drove 5 hours for it and it was the equivalent of watching an AHL team play. Next time I will just stick to watching my Penguins

  • DRW

    by RSN1 on 10/31/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The venue as a whole is very nice. The viewing would be great as long as there's no one in front of you who is tall ,wearing a hat or has "big" hair. At least in the upper bowl. We had to either watch via the video screens or slide up on seat and look around the people in front of you.:(

LCA is such an amazing venue. tons to do. great places to eat and you could waste away an entire game wandering around; that's why we get there at least an hour before each game.

Came to watch the Red Wings play The Leafs. Great venue and the Leafs WON!

  • Red wings home opener

    by Davidsk1 on 10/7/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This event was amazing. Met the players as they walked in and got autographs. Tickets came with a $10 food voucher each. Best bang for your buck I have ever seen. Seats are comfortable. Wish there were more elevators and sights or activities. Like the tigers games have a lot of interactive activities.

  • Upper Level Seating

    by Danny6789 on 10/7/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Bad stadium layout for upper bowl since enclosed box seats in front suspended block view of big board and multiple tv screens facing seating is very irritating.

  • Hockeytown is a great place to visit!

The games was great. We had a great time. I had bought tickets and thought that I would be lower than the top row of the stadium.

  • EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!

by Anonymous on 8/16/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

With the new hockey season approaching, I am reminded to WARN anybody planning on going to Little Caesars Arena to see a game. UNBELIEVABLE! How can somebody build a multi-million dollar arena in the 21st century that has OBSTRUCTED VIEW SEATS! And I'm not talking netting behind the goals. We sat in Sect. 231 row 11. We could not see 1 sq. in. of the beautiful new scoreboard/video screen. When the play went into the corner diagonally opposite from us, we could only see the skates of the players. If we lowered our chins to our waists, we could see the players' knees. How can they charge $100+ for seats like these. They should sue the architect! I'm sure those two large gondolas are an obstruction to hundreds of seats. WHAT A JOKE! The owners should be embarrassed. The building, concourse, and amenities are great, but our whole experience was ruined by the terrible view. I may return for another game, but only if I'm able to save enough money to pay the price for seats that aren't obstructed. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! Hockey fans, consider yourselves warned!

  • Obstructed view!

by dontsitthere on 4/16/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

We sat in section 212 row 12 and it was terrible. We could not see most of the arena, felt like we were watching the game through a long narrow window. The gondola in front of us covered most of the scoreboard and we could not see the banners or light show on the ceiling. 356$ dollars for three tickets and I would have rather watched the game at home. Terrible hockey game watching experience. We also had to lean way forward to see the section of ice closest to us if the play was along the boards and we could not understand the referees at all. They did a great job on the concourse but missed the mark on the upper bowl seating for sure. Very disappointing.

  • Good game, bad seats

by BTRB on 4/3/18Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Went to the 3-31 game, Red Wings vs Ottawa Senators. The wings olayed a good game, for what we could see of it. Paid $100 plus per seat, could not see the play very good along the near ice boards. PRtially obstructed from suites in front of you. No view of large screen. Section 210
