Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

$13 beer 1/2 empty row of seats we were in AND behind us, but we were admonished and mandated to stay in our assigned, sardined seats. No wonder they have to offer discounted tickets. I’ll stay home & cheer on the Wings & let the Illitch’s steal from the masses.

  • Some minor issues that need to be addressed

by George on 1/3/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and I had a very enjoyable NYE at LCA. Fun game and great atmosphere. However, the LCA staff needs to figure out how to make the entrance experience into the arena better. I understand the need to make it easier, quicker, and more customer-friendly to enter the arena for any event. Entering the arena reminds me of a cattle call. The fact that everyone entering the arena is jammed through the entrance doors, then through the scanning experience (which can be less than pleasant) is very aggravating and time consuming. Customers are forced to line up outside then squeeze their way through the entrance process. I could go on about this but I'm sure you're already aware. Simple question - can you at least move the scanners inside of the building which would give everyone more room and allow the paying customers to at least line up inside of the building???

  • Not the same. . . .

    by bj49615 on 1/2/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Neither the team nor the arena was as good as in the past. No excitement.

  • Red Wings VS Blue Jackets, December 17, 2019

by Michele C. on 12/20/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Although the Red Wings lost, we had an enjoyable time. The beer and food are way over-priced, however. The seats were good and the Ticketmaster app made it quite easy to access my tickets and present them to the ticket agent at the gate. I do hope that the Red Wings organization makes a change in the head coaching position as I feel that Jeff Blashill is not getting the most out of his players. I feel that the Wings should pursue a new goalie and better defense men as well. The offense, despite the individual skills, doesn't seem to have the coordinated plays necessary to get more SOG and the Wings are consistently out shot 2:1 in many games.

  • Very nice time

    by Ami1010 on 12/18/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great at the game, except the Red Wings not playing well. All of the arena people were nice and helpful and the environment was very nice! Love LCA!!

The new arena is awesome. We had a great time. Ate at kid rocks place was awesome going to be a shame when it’s gone. I’ll definitely be back from Las Vegas again to attend something there.

  • Great Game!

by Papa John on 12/15/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome game to watch as we snapped our 12 game losing streak! Parking was fantastic & the entertainment during intermissions was awesome!

  • Tight seating

by Kevin on 12/14/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

The seating was so tight that we did not even stay to see the puck drop from out seats. We watch 5 minutes of the gave from a bar area then left. Do not plan on going back again. Spent $160 for tickets, $45 for parking and 25 for food and sat in seats for 10 minutes. Left seats before game even started. Waste of money.

  • Seats left a lot to desire

    by J. R. on 12/10/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

They need to crank down the volume on the PA at least 30 decibels. The seats did not have enough leg room..

  • Fun

  • Toronto vs Detroit NHL

by Dangerous Dann on 11/30/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

First time to this venue! Fantastic I’m a season ticket holder in Toronto.I like this rink better than what Toronto has to offer. Very spacious with a superior design! Returning to see Blake in March! New to the area moved from Halton Hills to west of London.Used the Tunnel Bus from Windsor to get to the rink! Fantastic design, set up , cost and experience from Canada🇨🇦👍. Thank you Windsor and Detroit.

  • Poor value.

    by K3 on 11/27/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Well, our $20 seats were so bad, we decided to walk around. We went to Kid Rocks restaurant for dessert, were seated; then told the kitchen was closed. At 8:50pm.

  • Great fun at an inexpensive price!

by Doug on 11/27/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Our seats were in the "nose-bleed" area, but it gave me a chance to see all the action at once and see plays develop, etc. Especially with the large screen TV playing the action at the same time, I was very satisfied with my seats. Even though the Wings lost, it was still a fun time.

  • Wings game / LCA

by Fan on 11/22/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

It’s sad the Wings are putting out such a mediocre product these days. I miss the glory days of the Cup years. I would NEVER sit in the 2nd level of LCA again. The seats are narrower than an airline seat and there is absolutely NO LEGROOM. My legs were cramping up in the first period! If you’re tall (I’m not) forget it. It will be a rough night.

  • Great Game

    by R. M. on 11/13/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It was a fantastic game and the new arena is beautiful. The parking garages were a nightmare however.

  • Awesome

    by J. K. on 11/13/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Went to watch the Red Wings play Golden Knights. Our seats were excellent and the game was great.

  • Awesome Evening

by A. Taylor on 11/13/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

This was the first time attending a Red Wings game. I enjoyed it a lot. Madison Bowey scored his first goal as a Red Wing. It was nice to see a person that looked like me on the ice playing for the city I grew up in!

  • Show Time

by Papa John on 11/7/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Great arena to watch a hockey game! Now we need to put a better product on the ice by getting a better goalie & a new coach!

  • Card got declined

by Mac on 11/7/19Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

My debit card worked at the first bar. Second bar, I got 2 drinks. The bartender used 3 of my cards and said all 3 got declined. There’s no way that could of happened because I had money on all 3. After about 20 minutes, she had to ring the drinks up separately and it worked. Missed the rest of the country night concert bc of it. My card continued to work throughout the night on 3 other different transactions. Not sure why the bartender couldn’t figure out how to ring up 2 drinks.
