Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams—the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL)—in one downtown core in the country.

  • Not worth the price

by Stephanie on 3/9/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The seats we bought for a hockey game at Little Caesars Arena were pricy, also the $120 each. They were located on the top tier which is what we were expecting. We were not expecting the view from these seats to be partially blocked by a walkway that they have hanging around the arena. Overall not worth the price we paid.

  • Excellent experience

Even tho my team didnt win I had a great. My seats were great. Came really early and checked out all of the shops and resturants. The only thing bad of the night was the road closings

  • Have to consider if we go again

    by j. c. on 3/4/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Not a great experience, after a 2 hour drive to see our favourite team, and walking to see L.C.A. sights,we settled in the Blue zone. The ushers were accomadating (taking pictures etc.) This was until a shift change and we were informed we had to move, from our standing position. It should be noted that there were no ticket holders at all. In the midst of a 7 -1 loss, it was not likely they were coming. When the team is this bad, a little common sense might not be an idea.

  • Night Out to the Flaming

    by F. on 2/26/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The arena is fabulous, spacious, loud and beautiful! Plenty of choices at well-stocked concessions, timely service. Pregame team function at adjacent Budweiser Biergarten facility was delayed, patrons forced to wait outside in the cold, no rest room facilities available while complimentary alcoholic beverages were served.

  • Good game

    by L. P. on 2/24/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Great game, great seats. The staff at Little Caesar's are friendly, helpful and professional. Took my 83 year old mother to the game. She loved it and next time doesn't want to go to a restaurant outside the arena. She wants to go to the arena and grab snacks/food from the vendors in the arena. The game was good as the Wings won. Lots of excitement. Just a wonderful, fun evening.

    by T. M. on 2/22/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

best thing about it was the wings won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • High Prices

by Tazman on 2/22/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

While the game was good the arena was barely over half filled and the prices were much higher then expected. Parking was almost $45 which is $20 higher than the private lots a block away. A single beer was $13 and a large pop was $7.50. A team baseball cap started at $20 and went as high as $37. I won't be attending anymore games at the prices that are charged for things.

  • Wings vs Habs

    by T on 2/21/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The Wings started out slow and gave up two in the first, but matched them at a goal a piece in the second. In the third, it was all Wings as they scored three to win, 4-3. Great game, if you are a Wings fan.

  • A wonderful experience

by Less is more on 2/21/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time attending a game with my sons. I had a great time. Everything about the experience was wonderful. The most awesome thing was the Red Wings won!!!

Attended for the Red Wings versus the Canadiens hockey game on Tuesday. Overall it was an excellent time although the wrong team won. A great venue and very friendly and helpful staff.

  • First Family Hockey game at Little Caesar’s

by Kiz on 2/14/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Took the whole family to Little Caesar’s Arena for our first game in Detroit. Great experience from start to finish. Free coolers at the door, 13 year old got a free bobble head. Game was great and the atmosphere was electric. Can’t wait to go again.

  • Redwings Game

by Bill K on 2/13/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Went to Redwings game on 2/9. Little Caesars is by far the nicest of the 6 arenas I have seen a recent NHL game at recently. The seats were comfortable with ample leg room. It was easy to get to arena. I was surprised by lots of empty seats as Wings are having off year. Arena was family friendly. I will definitely go back

  • Awesome game and glad to see them win!!

by Paul on 2/12/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Took my Grandson for his 1st Wings game with my Daughter and we had a spectacular time. Never a bad experience watching the Wings play. Only downer is I paid for there to be a message on the big-screen for his first game and birthday but did not catch it. Minor glitch but outside of that Awesome experience.

  • Redwings vs. Bruins

by Ryan on 2/12/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

First ever Redwings game for my son, uncle, and I; including a first Little Cesars Area experience for my father-in-law. Overall it was an amazing experience! Great atmosphere and beautiful arena. The arena is very clean, ushers/staff are very helpful and friendly, and food selection is good and not too overly priced. The best parts were the seats (section 102) and seeing my 6 year old son smile and cheer the entire game for his favorite hockey team and seeing them be victorious over one on the best teams in the NHL, the Boston Bruins. We can’t wait to go back!

  • LCA great family fun

    by B. M. on 2/12/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It helps when the Wings win, but the LCA is a great place to take a family to enjoy sports and have a fun day out. The concourse "Via" is a great place before the game and in between periods. Tons of food options and plenty of room to move around.

  • Very fun! Great time!

by M Pell on 2/12/20Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I am a huge Red Wings fan so this was a fun event! Especially because we pulled out a win. Little Caesars Arena is great too. Good food and great seats.

Little Caesar's Arena is second to none. Every seat is great. Can't wait till we have a team that is competitive again. Still, always a thrill to see the Wings anyway!!!!
