Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

  • Great game Mar 29th

by Raven on 4/1/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great was an excellent experience. Bit shady that they don't post the results of the 50/50 draw anywhere online. I don't remember anyone announcing the winning numbers at the game so keep checking online and nothing is posted, that's a bit fishy.

  • Great game

by Mizzmegz on 2/25/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue, lots of food choices, a bit pricy, lots of bathrooms

  • New Caesar’s Arena Disappoints

by Tim on 2/25/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

For a new arena, I was disappointed with the crowded concourses, poor signage, few access points to the upper seating areas and seats with no leg room. In addition, the team store was only open on game days for brief hours and was packed. I was also disappointed with the fake banners that only drop from the ceiling and appear after the national anthem. I have been to most NHL arenas and was so looking forward to viewing a game at Detroit’s new arena, but left disappointed.

  • Great place to watch hockey!

by Drew on 2/11/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The result of the match wasn't what I wanted, but the facilities were fantastic! Great food, good drink selection and reasonable prices. Can't wait until we start making play-off runs here.

  • Seat choices

by BK on 2/11/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Disappointed in the seat view, but still had a fun time.

  • Perfect

by Doe on 2/6/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The event was a gift, so I was truly surprised. The seating was perfect. I was able to se the trucks come out and clean the ice bcuz of where I was sitting!!! I loved the energy of the crowd!!! Just one thing. It was hard to find someone to help me find my seat.

  • Another great Little Caesars Arena experience

    by Muttsy19 on 1/28/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Once again, LCA delivers. After many visits, I have yet to have a bad experience at this arena. Entry was easy. Had four electronic tickets on my iPhone. Using the Ticketmaster app, we had zero issues with getting the barcodes scanned, even with multiple cracks in my phone’s screen protector. Arena personnel were all super friendly and helpful when we interacted with them. The only thing that I would say is how they can make my experience better is with better beer selection in the arena, but it is being terribly nit-picky on my end. While I like IPA’s, they’re not what I want in fall/winter, and if you want popular IPA’s or Hefeweizen’s, there are plenty available throughout the arena, along with the classic “garage beers.” Great facility, plus an app that had zero issues, equals an enjoyable night. And the Red Wings beat Tampa Bay, so everyone except Tampa wins!

  • Great arena, view and seating could’ve been better.

by Telly on 1/15/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Great spot, great staff. Should’ve checked a bit closer as our views were obstructed in the 200s for both the pistons and redwings game but my own fault for not checking close enough. We sat on opposite sides for the games and both had a similar issue. Would go back but would not recommend sitting in the 200s.

by Bob on 1/3/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Best hockey game I have ever been to I absolutely loved it! I’ll definitely be back

  • Amazing game

by Craig on 1/2/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Out of towner visiting the Little Caesar's Arena for the first time to watch the Maple Leafs play the Red Wings. The arena is beautiful and huge and I wish I had more time to explore it before gametime. The sightlines from row three were amazing and I witnessed a Leafs win and a Mitch Marner hat trick. What else could you ask for? Maybe cheaper beers. :)

  • Awesome

by Fran on 12/30/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Game was great, leafs had a great game however the one star missing is for the team experience I had at the entrance. Staff were very pushy and loud. They yelled as we entered, kind of unnecessary if you ask me

  • Great Venue

  • Top Notch Facility and Staff

by Chris on 12/23/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

LCA is a fantastic facility. Best arena I’ve been to in the NHL so far. Good concessions - pretty expensive, but no lines. Staff are super friendly and helpful.

  • Leafs 4 Ever

    by Bleve192 on 12/17/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Although the Leaf's lost the game, it was a great time. Little Caeser's Arena is probably the nicest rinks I've visited so far. Price was decent for a Leaf's game, albeit in US dollars when purchasing, and the dollar rate is terrible now. I will go back again for another game at some point.

  • Great exprience

by Mcmarauder on 12/10/24Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I took my grandson, his wife and my two great grandsons to the game. Great seats, arena was wonderful and the only negative was the Red Wings lost the game.
