Dermot Kennedy on Tour
Folk singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy has quickly taken the world by storm, rising from a small town in Ireland to release a number of charting singles as well as work with revered musicians and producers like Glen Hansard and Mike Dean (Kanye West, Travis Scott). In 2017, the dynamic performer went on the U.S. festival circuit and played Lollapalooza, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo, making an international name for himself with his high-energy shows. The following year, he went on a world tour and played shows in the U.S., Australia and Europe, hitting Coachella and also playing an NPR Tiny Desk Concert after being voted NPR Slingshot Best New Artist of the Year. Kennedy's live shows flesh out his intimate tunes with a full band, bringing the audience fully inside his expressive songs. Kennedy's tour in 2019 took him across multiple continents as he incorporated tracks from his sophomore album, Without Fear, into his set.
Dermot Kennedy in Concert
Born in 1991 in Ireland, Kennedy was attracted to music at a young age, picking up a guitar at 10 and taking the plunge into songwriting a few years later, at 14. Before long, Kennedy was performing at open mics around Dublin; eventually he found himself busking — playing music on the street for money — in cities around the world. After high school, he studied classical music at the university level for a few years, but ultimately decided to pursue folk music. Kennedy's big break came when he won first place in a major upset at the South County Song Contest at St. Finian's GAA Club, putting him on the radar of industry professionals and singer-songwriters around the world.
After he self-published on Spotify, some of Kennedy's music found its way onto Discover Weekly playlists, which helped him get noticed by a wider audience. His first charting single, "Young & Free," reached No. 82 on the Irish Singles Chart, but his breakthrough came with 2018's "Power Over Me," which reached No. 10 on the Irish Singles Chart, No. 21 on the U.S.'s Hot Rock Songs and No. 5 on Adult Alternative. "Power Over Me" has since been certified gold. Kennedy signed to Interscope and, in January 2019, released his self-titled debut album, which hit No. 5 on the Irish charts.

One of the best shows I have been to. It is one of the best mainly for Dermot Kennedy himself. I was really surprised how good he is live and the power in his voice. I don't mean like great live, I mean a phenomenal vocalist, especially when you consider he doesn't seem to be trained intensively. The sound set was good and mostly balanced, definitely not the best I have been to, but the Dermot and the band managed to flow with whatever may have popped up. Only issue was sometimes his voice was low when speaking and maybe more interaction with the audience.
Have been following Dermot for over a year. Several comments during the show reinforced that this show with 3,000 audience was his biggest. Reminds me of seeing Ed Sheeran at Wamu before he started playing arenas.
Dermot provided an amazing concert, beautiful vocals, great light show/display with the songs, not super crowded, and he sang for a good amount of time. The venue at the Paramount was wonderful!! Only drawback is the Paramounts rule about having to buy one of their cups to bring your drink in to the seating area, but I won't hold that against my rating as it was a beautiful concert!
This was our second time seeing Dermot live, and it was incredible! He and his band are every bit as good live as they are recorded. The next time he comes back to Seattle we will definitely be there to see him play again!
Dermot is a true vocalist! He is perfect in every way possible ! The rasp in his voice give his songs so much more of a meaning. His writes his songs based on experience and his deliverance is just so raw and authentic! I am beyond glad I was able to go, because hearing a voice like his live is dramatically one of the best vocal concerts I’ve ever been to (Im still Bee-Hive though)
Seeing Dermot + Company live at at this perfect size venue was like no other. His soft soulful voice and powerful original instrumental sound make a beautiful combo and can melt you into a magical trance. Easily one of the best moments in my life seeing him live.
Genuine talent and amazing vibes, Dermot Kennedy is about to blow up--talent like this has a way of making it through! Great performance, chill vibe and humble performer. I'd love to see him again after his album is released!
I worked in the music industry for two years and attended 2-3 shows every week. This was the best show I’ve ever seen. He’s gonna be huge.
The show was amazing and the venue was good, but one guard saw us stick our arms out (to see if the artist came over if we could just touch his hand) and told us we better not be aggressive, or try pulling him off stage or he’ll have to move us... we weren’t showing any signs of aggression
Dermot Kennedy was great! A talented musician with a stunning voice, Kennedy captivated the audience for the entirety of his performance. The intimacy of the small venue made it even more special.
Just seen Dermot last night and he was unreal! He is one of the best live acts I've ever seen, his songs, his voice, were just brilliant live and I would definitely see him again!! If you are a fan of his and he is playing near you I would highly recommend you go see him. I also got the pleasure of meeting him after the gig and he was a pure gent! His support act Lyra was also very good and is definitely worth looking up!
