About

DELBERT MCCLINTON IN CONCERT:

Veteran Texas bluesman Delbert McClinton is a talented recording artist who is no stranger to the top of the charts, but the real magic happens when he hits the stage. McClinton's hootin' and hollerin' take on the blues gets the whole crowd jumping at his live shows. His incredible harmonica and guitar playing really bring favorites like "Giving It Up for Your Love" and "Every Time I Roll the Dice" to life. Whether he's telling a hilarious story or sharing the spotlight with his killer saxophonist, McClinton is a gracious and authentic performer who always impresses on his unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Lubbock, Texas, McClinton cut his teeth playing in a bar band called the Straitjackets before hitting the charts in 1962 with his harmonica playing on Bruce Channel's No. 1 hit "Hey! Baby". He began releasing his own albums in the early '70s, finding his way onto the charts with albums like Love Rustler (1977) and Keeper of the FLlame (1979). A talented songwriter, McClinton also penned hits for other artists, including the 1978 Emmylou Harris No. 1 smash "Two More Bottles of Wine". He scored a hit single of his own in 1980 with "Giving It Up for Your Love", which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. McClinton continued releasing successful albums throughout the '80s and '90s, but things really picked up in the '00s when he landed four No. 1 albums on the US Blues chart and nabbed a Grammy for his 2005 album The Cost of Living. A gifted performer, McClinton continues to tear it up for fans whenever and wherever he tours.

Absolutely fantastic show. Up close and personal - amazing

    by M. B. on 12/9/19Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Amazing musicians. Great song selection. And then there is Delbert McClinton. He still kicks ass - what an amazing evening. Dana on saxophone captivates the audience - but every musician on that stage was just incredible. Two days later and I have been playing his newest CD over and over.

by Mr Glover on 11/5/19Birchmere - Alexandria

A living icon. I love to watch Delbert sing. I love to hear Delbert sing. And I love the words to the songs he sings. A most entertaining performer. He has mellowed with time but keeps getting better. He also has a performing sense of humor you just have to love. Don’t miss him!!

As Delbert's song says, "I ain't old...I've just been around a long time." Spending an evening with Delbert & band NEVER gets old & never fails to provide some of the best music out there. Always surrounded by veteran musicians that furnish the backing for Delbert's seasoned voice,it's a perfect fit. Happy birthday,Delbert! Keep on doin' what you're doin'.

Love the vibe at the Birchmere. First time I saw Delbert McClinton was at the Birchmere over 30 years ago. Was able to take my kids with me this time. We were all blown away how great he still is

    Still Rockin

by ART in Chattanooga on 10/15/19The Walker Theatre - Chattanooga

I thought Delbert was great. For his age he still sings and performs very well. He was actually better than I expected. Really glad I went to his event in Chattanooga TN. The Walker Theater part of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial auditorium is a great smaller venue with seats for 700 or so. Acoustics are great and there isn’t a bad seat even in the balcony. It was a great experience and my wife and I were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Awesome

by Beannie on 10/15/19The Walker Theatre - Chattanooga

The seating is too tight and the sound was awful. Couldnt understand words. Music overpowered his voice. But glad i got to go see him for the 1st time.

    Finally Delbert

    by J. F. on 10/15/19The Walker Theatre - Chattanooga

Never got to see him before and was finally able to get to the Chattanooga show. Little disappointed he didn't play his harp much, only on 1 song but at 78 yrs old there probably a reason. His voice was worth the trip from Bham though. He was surrounded by fantastic musicians as well and it was a terrific show.

by Kat on 10/15/19The Walker Theatre - Chattanooga

This was the first time we had been to The Walker Theater, it was great. The parking was easy and cheap ($5), the venue was awesome! It was just the right size, we sat in the balcony and could see perfectly. The acoustics were great too! Just an all around good place to see a show.

Delbert McClinton Concert and The Walker

    by J. M. on 10/15/19The Walker Theatre - Chattanooga

It was fabulous, he really put on a show, the band members are extremely talented, the keyboard player....oh my gosh, best I have ever seen. The venue is nice, I liked the seating, it was comfortable, a little snug due to bench seating but that really hinged on the size of your seatmates. My only criticism was the sound system, not sure if that was provided by the band or the venue, but was surprised at the quality. There are so many great systems out there now, I was a little surprised, but we still had a great time because we are such fans of Delbert.

Great Music and even Greater Band

by Bigg Rog on 9/24/19Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

Mr. McClinton and the Self Made Man and Dana. Was a great evening of fantastic music. Delbert and this band are true professionals in every word. Not a missed note among them. This was the 1st time I experienced Delbert live. The whole band was unbelievable. The person blew me away was Dana Robbins, she is one of the greatest saxophonist I have ever witnessed. When Delbert took his break he let the whole band shine. Dana and Quentin Ware’s doing the classic “Tequila” was a lot of fun, but The highlight was Bob Britt doing a killer version of “I Shall Be Released”. I left a very satisfied and happy person.

Delbert was hotter than the temperature inside the State The

by ragsplace on 9/23/19Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

Delbert and his very talented band put on a great show. His energy at 78 years of age is inspiring. His band is filled with very talented musicians. Shame on the State Theater for not having the AC on. Delbert's guitar player could be seen saying the word (Hot) repeatedly to Delbert.
