I saw the musical in Charlotte, NC, and it was exceptional. I really enjoyed it, from beginning to end. Everyone was so amazing and I couldn't tell that some that participated were locals. My 5-year old granddaughter enjoyed it as well. I would love to see this musical continue as I am sure my whole family would have enjoyed it. Very good family event, recommended for all ages. Refreshing, positive event, and much needed in this time.

The gift that these young people have will help carry them through this tumultuous world that we live in They showed a spirit in their step, laughter in their hearts, smiles and teamwork that will last them for their life time.

Debbie Allen's choreography of this event was remarkable. The children were outstanding. Everyone did a fantastic job of performing. I was mesmerized from beginning to end. I loved the energy. It was non stop action. James Ingram did a great with the music. Every musical selection complimented the scenes and the score was great. Debbie Allen's Brothers of Knight was PHENOMENAL!

by VTDRHR on 7/22/14Ovens Auditorium - Charlotte

When I found out about this event, I was very excited because I LOOOOOOVE Debbie Allen and the work that she does. This event was absolutely FANTASTIC! Norm Nixon, her husband and the ED of her dance company, explained to us the awesome things they are doing to advocate for the arts and to provide young people with a chance to perform. I echo his sentiments about the value of the arts and our need to ensure that they are retained in the schools. Their cast included 31 travelling youth and a number of young dancers from the Charlotte area. This was an awesome opportunity for our local dancers as well. The travelling group dancers were so talented and knew a lot of different dance styles and techniques. I was absolutely mesmerized and so were my two friends in attendance with me. Other audience members were "oohing" and "aahing" as well. When the formal performance was over, some of the travelling dancers gave us an impromptu show using even more skills. We were all euphoric and the audience did not want to leave. The music was high-powered, fun, and drew you into the dancing as well. The dancers were talented, energetic, believable, awesome, and phenomenal. They were making moves that I did not think one's body could do! I loved the entire show and did not want for it to end. Ms. Sunday and the Pastor were also excellent (she danced flawlessly), and he was believable as both a Pastor and the father of 12. I loved the church scenes and to hear the entire cast sing about Jesus. What an unexpected blessing! I wish that they could have stayed in Charlotte longer. I would have liked to have experienced the show with more members of my family. Norm promised that they would return with another show, and I will AGAIN have one of the best seats in the house. I felt happy and joyful after this performance, and my friends and I could not help but move with them in our seats and tapping our feet. It was family-friendly performance with NO profanity, obscenity, or alternate lifestsyles. I would be glad to take my 6 and 9 year old grandchildren to see it the next time. I loooooved this show and thank God for Debbie Allen and Norm Nixon for bringing it to Charlotte!
