DE LA SOUL IN CONCERT:
Alternative hip hop pioneers De La Soul are back with a vengeance in 2014, celebrating the anniversary of their seminal 1989 debut album 3 Feet High and Rising with the 25 Years of De La Soul Tour. Classic sample-based jams like "The Magic Number" and "Me Myself and I" will be front and center as the band takes the stage in their signature throwback streetwear for career-spanning sets of their beloved hits. With a new album titled You're Welcome also hitting shelves in 2014, fans can expect to catch some never-before-heard material sprinkled in among their favorites at the group's electrifying live shows.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Kelvin Mercer, David Jude Jolicoeur, and Vincent Mason formed De La Soul in 1987 while attending high school on Long Island. Their playful, inventive 1989 debut album 3 Feet High and Rising was a massive success, peaking at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and launching them to international fame overnight. The group's 1991 sophomore album De La Soul is Dead was another critical and commercial success, criticizing the increasingly violent nature of rap culture while still remaining upbeat with hits like "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)" and "A Roller Skating Jam Named 'Saturdays'". A string of acclaimed albums followed throughout the '90s and '00s, bringing the band out on the road for numerous electrifying tours with acts like Modest Mouse and A Tribe Called Quest. Back in 2014 with You're Welcome -- their first studio album in ten years -- De La Soul has fans chomping at the bit to catch the new material live on their 25th anniversary tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"De La Soul put on a wonderful show, I felt like I was in a dream. The hype before the show was even exciting, people were taking things back to the old school by break dancing."
"De La brought it back to the times when hip hop was fun! Lots of energy, lots of classics! I Love De La Soul!! Awesome show!"
"De La Soul put on an incredible show and there was so much energy. Thanks to them for 20+ years of amazing music."

De La Soul did not dissapoint. I have followed this group since i heard Plug Tunning on Red Alert Show in 1988. This is pre 3 feet high and rising. They did a good mix of music from all albums, including a mini tribute to J-Dilla for true hip hop fans this will make sense. They also did Rock Box to salute Run-DMC and the late JMJ. They also did an amazing pefromance of Feels Good Inc. The signicance of this Tour is that they perform with a Live Band.
De LA Soul was such an amazing show! Glad that I got to see one of the bands I grew up listening to! I would def do it all over again!
This was probably one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. You can tell that they enjoy rappin in general and together as a group. The back up band was a nice touch also.
It is not everyday you see a group stand together for 20 years a display talent with innovation and dedication. Hip hop is not died! De La Soul kept it alive with every cell in their body. Live band, old school throwbacks, and energy the set the House of Blues on fire. The floor was packed and crowd amped to moment De La Soul stepped on stage. There is really not much to say but De La Soul is incredible & they put on an incredible show.
♠The show was off the chain! Full of energy and life, the live band just set it off right! There was an amazing amount of talent on that stage and was AWESOME to take it all in!
Best show I have been to in years!! De La Soul rocked the house like nobody's business!! This was my first time at the House of Blues Dallas and I highly recommend it. Full bar, great sound, nice bathrooms and kickin A/C....can't beat that!
De La Soul is definitely not dead. 20 years ago they released 3 Feet High and Rising and has continually killed the game. Their onstage performance was one of the best shows Ive been too. They killed the show with just a 2 emcee and DJ set and completely destroyed it with the backing of the Rhythm Roots All Star Band. A lot of our classic groups have broken up and new music today is just lacking in lyricism, subject matter, and professionalism but De La Soul has given hip hop an insurance policy letting fans know we can always go back to classics.
Great performance! You can tell they still love to get the party started. They took me back to the early 90's. They even diid a few songs, that i had forgotten they had written. Very Pleased
Great Show! 20 years in and the group can still rock a crowd.
Yes, this concert was excellent - they knew how to work a crowd - when they finally came on stage after 11 pm!!! We arrived at the House of Blues at 8 pm and had no idea we'd be waiting 3 hours to actually see De La Soul. There were some good openers, but between the 2 openers you had to wait about 30-40 minutes before the next act. My husband had to be at work at 5 am Saturday morning. Had we known they wouldn't hit the stage until 11 pm, we wouldn't have bought tickets to this one. My husband has waited to see De La Soul for awhile and this was a little disappointing (due to how long it took them to hit the stage). We had to leave half way through the concert because of the hour drive home. In the future, we'll remember not to arrive so early and hopefully neither of us will have to work so early the next morning!
They were better before but overall a good show. they were and hour late. The opening act was ok until they brought the pregnant girl on stage to dance. What is up with that? She was supposively the friend of Maceo. They also at tthe same time brought out an older lady maybe her mom or grandmother. It made no sense at all.
the show was unforgettable, every hip-hop face and or mc should go see them live they'll show you how it's done, how a hip-hop show should be
doors opened 9...de la went on stage @ 1am...bunch of crap bands before...that's ok for a large venue...but for a small venue? not cool...i'm still bitter... key club was cool too....boo de la...
the show started really late and there were too many opening acts
De La Soul is on point> I've seem them many times befor and this time was the best. A full band, all the old school jams, good energy! Thank You De La for blessing us with your skills! One Love
Ok. I was really anticipating De La Soul's 9:30 show at the Key Club on July 24. What I didn't know is that there would be 6 opening acts with a whole lotta down time in between the first and the next 5 and then De La Soul would come out at 12:30. I'm all for an opener and I didn't figure they'd start right away. But, come on. I get that they're not going to post their exact start time so that the up and comers get some airtime, but it was toooooo much and toooooooo long. And, aside from Kenan Bell, I wasn't feeling any of the bands. When De La Soul came out, they were great but the bubble had kind of already burst. Hows about 3 openers (if that) next time y'all? And, a note for the ladies...leave the stilettos and home and sport the Pumas instead...
The whole night was fun! My boyfriend and I got to the venue at 8pm, and didn't leave until 1230am! All the groups that performed were awesome! it was a great night of good hip hop. De La Soul was great... after all these years, they still love to make good music.
