    Beethoven's Fifth was extremely moving.

by DancingJane on 11/6/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

The National Symphony of Cuba did an inspiring job with Beethoven's Fifth. They also played several encores at the end of the evening--really impressive and giving of their time!

    FABULOUS CONCERT!!!

by OscarandAvivasMom on 3/21/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

The concert was wonderful. The orchestra had such tremendous depth for their size. The conductor was entertaining and enthusiastic. The guest cellist was delightful and the evening was perfect! Even the parking lot attendant was pleasant and the security helped us leave quickly.

    Splendid

by Bud104 on 3/5/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

It's difficult to praise sufficiently the all star cast of this magnificent opera, one of Giuseppi Verdi's very finest, which Teatro Lirico D'Europa performed according to the highest standards of European opera. Each singer/actor brought to this performance an appropriate enthusiasm for the composer's genius. Olga Orlovskaya's Violetta exhibited an exuberance and a vocal vitality quite beyond the usual, while her interpretive sensitivity reminded the listener of performances by the great Maria Callas herself. Orlin Goranov's Alfredo was just a bit subdued and understated, but despite his regrettable reticence his talented costar Orlovskaya carried off the entire action superbly. Hristo Sarafov as the Baron could have shown just a little more vigor, but the evident restraint of his interpretation was I believe within the limits of Verdi's characterization for this designedly stultified persona. Just a little more appropriate anger would have better fleshed out this secondary but essential character. I must happily say that the balance of the entire supporting cast along with Olga Orlovskaya's outstanding delivery more than adequately carried this complete presentation to a new height for Daytona.

    It was so intricate

The ballet was amazing. I brought my friend that has danced for years, and she was very impressed. The costumes were gorgeous. I loved every minute.

    Moscow Festival Ballet-Sleeping Beauty

by JERRY1942 on 2/27/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

We really enjoyed the performance. The costumes, choreography, ballet was fabulous. The pre-show educational seminar was superb also. We would definitely attend again if given the chance. The theatre is in a good location and the available parking is convenient and reasonable.

    Robotic at best

by Bud104 on 2/26/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

When Moscow Festival Ballet was described as having originated among the cast of both the Bolshoi and the Kirov, I was totally enchanted, since these two companies together have always ranked among the very top ballet groups in the world. Viewing the actual performance in the Peabody on Friday night was a total disappointment. In the first place, staging any ballet without benefit of a live orchestra immediately detracts at least 30% from any performance, for several reasons. The dancers, however talented experienced and qualified, will often have some difficulty timing their movements to canned music although I have often seen it done. This troupe showed not the least possibility of overcoming such a handicap. If their movements ever coincided with the beat of the music, it was purely accidental and totally fortuitous. At times their gestures missed the musical beat by as much as a full half beat. This unscripted syncopation destroyed any possible enjoyment I might have derived from the performance. Secondly, the actual quality of the recorded music was vastly inferior, due perhaps to the poor quality of the amplifying system. No canned music can ever rival live music, but it can sometimes work if the amp system is professional. This one was definitely not. The high notes were unmistakeably tinny. Additionally, the sets and the costumes were inadequate, amateurish and totally uninspiring. It seems clear that the cast and the supporting workers of the Moscow Festival must have consisted in mostly rejected members of whatever troupe they had originally attempted to join. It's okay to cut a few corners to keep expenses down, but this time frugality definitely went beyond reasonable limits, I started by giving them a B+, but at the end I mentally awarded the entire performance a D-.

I did not like that I had to pay $8 for parking in The Peabody Daytona Beach. The auditorium was so-so. The show was good, but Nutcracker is better!

    Great performance! Great Venue!

by Happycamper33 on 2/26/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

Sleeping Beauty has, for a long time, been one of the classic ballets. The Moscow Festival Ballet Company performed flawlessly in their presentation of Sleeping Beauty. The Peabody Auditorium in Daytone Beach is a beautiful facility where all of the seats have seeminghly ideal sight lines. This was a wonderful event held at a great location. And for those who are worried, there is more than ample parking adjacent to the Peabody. This is a venue definitely worth going to again.

Good performance... second act was technically better, but if you not a dancer you may not noticed.

The orchestra and the piano soloist did a first rate performance from Wagner to Moussorsky. The only flaw was that no where was the name of the conductor mentioned. I have attended many musical performances but never one where the conductor remained un-named. Who was he?

Superb performance by St. Petersburg State Orchest

by Twistchampi1060 on 1/31/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

For starters, Alexander Priozhenko played the entire Beethoven "Piano Concerto #2, Opus 19" without sheet music -- just unbelievable and superb. The pianist exited stage to a standing ovation. But, for me, the crowning glory of the afternoon was Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." I could see and feel each picture through the music. I had never noticed before the similarities between John William's Olympic theme and the repeating promenades in Mussorgsky's piece. Interesting! The last movement of "Pictures..." was so powerful, it too brought the audiences to their feet shouting "bravo, bravo." A truly incredible performance.

    Amazing night with Canadian Brass!

by Anonymous on 1/31/12The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

My husband and I traveled from Orlando to see Canadian Brass. He had seen them once before, many years ago. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but happily tagged along for an evening of fun. The show was outstanding!! The musicians were simply amazing, and they really put on a great show for all. Not your typical event, as much humor was added into it. We both loved the show and would see them again in a heartbeat if we could. I will recommend to family and friends to attend next time they are in our area!

    Excellent Performance

by Dedicatedreviewer on 11/21/11The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

Pre-concert talk was fun and informative. Made the concert more enjoyable. Schoenberg piece was the highlight. Mozart Requiem was stirring. Not exactly a concert comment but I was not pleased with the misleading attempt by Ticketmaster to switch me over to a solicitation. Too hard to find a usable nickname

    the Requiem was unforgettable

by WillemJan on 11/21/11The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach

The repertoire choice was poor. The Schoenberg piece was horrible. I almost left the theater to come back after the intermission. Then.....the Requiem: it was absolutely gorgeous, very very professionally performed by the orchestra with a choir so good, unimaginably good. And without using any written scores. Really fantastic. These guys are great! So were the soloists. They did a great job as well
