About

David Gilmour is a British singer, songwriter and guitarist best known as a member of Pink Floyd. Hailing from Cambridge and Grantchester, Gilmour joined the iconic psychedelic rock band in late 1967, in the wake of the release of their debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and just months before the exit of founding vocalist Syd Barrett. The guitarist then appeared on all but two songs on Pink Floyd’s 1968 sophomore LP, A Saucerful of Secrets, and performed on the band’s landmark world tour that same year. Gilmour contributed lead and rhythm guitar, vocals and more to every Pink Floyd album thereafter, including the band’s 1973 magnum opus The Dark Side of the Moon and their 1979 rock opera The Wall. Following bassist Roger Waters’ exit from the band in 1985, Gilmour took over as Pink Floyd’s de facto leader. He has also periodically released solo albums during his acclaimed career, including David Gilmour (1978), About Face (1984), On an Island (2006) and Rattle That Lock (2015). In 2024, Gilmour is set to unveil Luck and Strange, his first solo set in nearly a decade.

Gilmour is one of the all-time greats!

by PersiW on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

He continues to put on an amazing show and never disappoints. While his new material is more down tempo than the Floyd classics, it's beautiful music in it's own right and stands on its own while flowing seamlessly along with the classics. In fact some of the new guitar solos are even better in my opinion than the old ones.

    Phenomenal Show From a Legend!

by DFGJ on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

David Gilmour and his terrific backing band delivered a stunningly great show at the Hollywood Bowl. Although the focus was on his new album "Rattle That Lock", Mr. Gilmour also went through a collection of legendary Pink Floyd classics to prove he is still unquestionably one of the best guitar players ever. The incredible music was amplified with a brilliant light show throughout both sets. This show is a must-see for anyone who wants to listen to real music.

    UNREAL!!!

by BassPlayinShawn on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Luckily, I've now seen Gilmour four times. He never disappoints and NOBODY can play guitar like him. Do not pass this show up, if you have the opportunity to go. The crowd was a little strange with a lot of older drunk or tripping people. There were two couples arguing behind us because of seats on the benches. I didn't let it bother me too much though.

    Masterpiece

    by kembley8s on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Hearing DG sing those classic songs ("Wish You Were Here", "Time", "Us and Them", "Money", "Comfortably Numb"....) I had chills down my spine.

    2 Icons!!

by exalhoa on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

David Gilmour and the Hollywood Bowl on a perfect SoCal evening. Wow. As a boomer who grew up with Pink Floyd, this was special. A 3 hr show with over half the songs classic Floyd. Love his solo work also. I bought an electric guitar a few year ago just to learn how to play like him (nope, not yet!).

Great place to hear Dave play

    by 1floydhead on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I would recommend the bowl to anyone! We saw Sabbath last March and Gilmour two nights ago and the sound is amazing. I do recommend not parking at the bowl. We parked at Hollywood & Highland grabbed a pizza and a few beers and walked up to the bowl.

Great show - Gilmour is a genius.

    by greatgig1 on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Almost three hours of top quality music. Great backing band, sax and vocalists. Gilmour is a genius. Still has that guitar sound that nobody can match. Really good sound and production quality (except for a moment when his guitar cut out on Money). Career spanning setlist. Mostly Pink Floyd but also great solo stuff. Good visuals. If you have the opportunity - don't miss this show. Top notch.

    Gilmour makes Holly Weird

by PinkTool on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

What can be said about David Gilmour (CBE) that hasn't already been said? I was fortunate to have been able to attend both Hollywood Bowl shows & am ecstatic. The first night was great. David Crosby lent his singing talents on three songs during the course of the evening's sonicsphere. On an Island was wonderful. Comfortably Numb, not as much. Thursday night's show had David Gilmour straining on a few songs vocally, notably High Hopes. I will be the first to say I love nearly everything Floydian (solo & proper) by all members. However, Friday's concert was a step up. Mind Blowing is fairly accurate. Fat Old Sun was perfect, As the second set opened with Interstellar Overdrive, the entire Iconic Hollywood Bowl Stage was bathed in a late 1960's Oil/Alcohol light show flashback. All in all, it may have been more than a brick in the wall. As Run Like Hell began with the extended delay intro, the 60 high intensity LED lights stationed around the obligatory circular screen pulsed perfectly & threw their light upon David. In an old Pink Floyd The Wall tour pre-show announcement the audience was reminded "So please, no fireworks. Believe me, there will be enough explosions in your mind." Well there were both for the lucky & diligent fans these evenings.

    What a great show!!!

    by gb211257 on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Definitely one of the best concert I've seen, sound, light design, everything production wise it was perfect. The band members are among the best musicians you can find and David Gilmour at 70 still rock the house like no one else and confirm himself like one of the most influential guitar player in rock history. Last but not least the concert was almost three hours long, you really got a lot for your money.

Gilmour Good, Logistics Sucked, Crosby Ruined The

    by Youngboomer63 on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

David Gilmour played beautifully. Needed a little more variation in the song order. The Hollywood Bowl was good for sitting and listening to the music. There are lines for concessions caused me to miss a quarter of the show just to get one glass of wine and one water. The logistics for getting into the Hollywood Bowl suck on a level that is just not to be believed. Takes forever to get in and double forever to get out. There is no parking to speak of and we had to walk miles before we could even get an Uber driver to be able to get to us. Will never go there again! David Crosby was a guest vocalist who completely ruined Another Brick in the Wall.

How could gilmour not be amazing??

    by Thedonald67 on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

David was incredible! The band was great, I've waited a lifetime To see him and drove a long ways to see him, worth Every mile. I didn't really like Crosby to much, he's very stiff on stage and on comfortably Numb it seemed like he was reading from a que card. All in all, a show of a lifetime!! I strongly recommend going to the show! Cheers

    Cash grab

    by Tbz123z on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This show was honestly a let down. Especially after having seen Roger Waters "The Wall" both times it was in the area. David is not in great health. His playing lacked fire or passion. His choice of David Crosby as a guest was odd. My Crosby's longtime collaborators have all ceased to work with him as he's not taking care of himself and it showed clearly in his performance.

    Bucket List Show

by hypermikem on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I was lucky enough to be in the Pool section for the first of two nights. To be so close to the action was truly unforgettable. David was in fine form and the signature Black Strat was cooking up some serious solo action. The voice is still there as well much to my surprise. The light and Laser show designed just for the Hollywood Bowl was just out of this world. One of the best shows I have ever had the pleasure of being at live. It was more than a concert, it was an Event. It had that feel to it. I didn't think I'd ever get a chance to see Gilmour live since he is such a recluse these days when it comes to tours so I had to jump at the chance, TWICE in a row which offered me a 15 yard view as well as a view from halfway up the venue by the sound board, which allowed me to fully appreciate the lighting and special effects that I couldn't see up close. Money well spent and this will be a lifelong memory!

Great show at a great venue

by Txgentleman on 3/27/16Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Once in a lifetime event from one of the greatest guitarist ever in a venue that was unforgettable. Sound was great and David has not lost anything when it comes to playing the guitar. Played most of the new album and several Pink Floyd classics and was joined onstage by David Crosby for a couple of songs including Comfortably Numb. With fireworks and lasers and an awesome light show it was a memorable night.
