About

Daniel Sloss: HUBRIS'. The all-new and hilarious 11th solo show by Scotland’s international comedy star, hot on the heels of his ground-breaking, global smash-hit ‘Daniel Sloss: X’, comes to the USA. Pollstar’s June 2021 edition listed 'HUBRiS' as the 5th largest event of any genre, indoor or outdoor on the planet even as the global music festivals were opening up.

His previous incredible ‘X’ tour sold out across 40 countries, with 300 shows including over 30 European countries, UK, U.S., Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and even packing a Moscow arena (becoming Russia’s biggest-ever English language comedy show). The film of ‘X’ is showing on HBO in U.S. and Canada and became the first UK comedy special to make its UK premiere in cinemas, with its nationwide release at Vue.

Daniel’s previous two Netflix specials ‘DARK’ & ‘Jigsaw’ are streaming in 190 countries, 26 languages with the infamous ‘Jigsaw’ now credited with breaking up over 120,000 couples and cited in over 300 divorces world-wide (with fans even bringing their divorce papers for him to autograph at shows). He has sold out six New York solo off-Broadway seasons, appeared on U.S TV’s ‘Conan’ ten times, broken box office records in Edinburgh and toured in 54 countries to date and his book “EVERYONE YOU HATE IS GOING TO DIE And Other Comforting Thoughts on Family, Friends, Sex, Love, and More Things That Ruin Your Life” is published by Penguin Random House.

First time seeing him live and was not disappointed :)

by sw on 5/11/24Pantages Theater - Tacoma

Got introduced to his work through Jigsaw. This set was not what I expected it to be but I was pleasantly surprised by the content. I can see how others might get disappointed because of the context of his previous sets. Personally really enjoyed his softer less edgier version yet still sharp humor after having a child.

    Fantastic show

by Rob on 5/10/24Pantages Theater - Tacoma

Started on time. Great opening act. Daniel was hilarious and engaging as expected. We had a great time and will absolutely see him again when he comes back. Only issue to be aware of - plan for a long show! Normally that would be a great thing! But we had to leave before the end because of our arranged times for our sitter. Next time we'll plan for a 3+ hour show in total, rather than 1.5 hours.

    Delightful

by Mgyfto on 5/8/24The Paramount - Huntington

Kai's performance was hilarious, but it was disappointing that his set was short. My mother, despite English being her second language, thoroughly enjoyed his humor, thanks to her exposure to PBS and BBC. Daniel's act posed more of a challenge for her due to his accent. This outing marked our first mother-daughter event in 20 years, and it was filled with laughter, thank you. I've been eagerly awaiting the chance to see Daniel live ever since watching his first Netflix special, did not disappoint. Loved every moment of it. Thank you for coming to Huntington.

    Witty and so funny

Such a great show. Both comedians were excellent. Venue seating too squishy.

Aging like a very spicy fine cheese

by LP on 5/7/24Beacon Theatre - New York

Daniel Sloss has only gotten better, even though he argues in this set that he’s gone soft. He continues to thrive in the “addressing a controversial topic but avoids being cruel” area of comedy. His pacing and clever writing style glow when he drops the third beat of a joke 45 minutes after we moved on from the subject. While the opener has some work to do but gained traction in the last 3/4 of his set, Sloss undeniably won the hearts of the audience. It was a crowd of New Yorkers so that might not mean much. Days later, my friend told me that his jokes still made her chuckle thinking back.

    Meh

by Kristinb on 5/6/24Paramount Theatre - Denver

Venue wasn’t great. Uncomfortable seats , hard to see over the person in front of me. There was a break between the two acts but no notice that the break was done and the show was starting. Daniel usually kills it but not as fun this time.

Pretty good; varied in quality; too long

by John Doe on 5/6/24Beacon Theatre - New York

Show was pretty good but varied in quality. Some parts were hilarious but the section on child birth went on far too long. As a new dad myself, it wasn’t that I couldn’t relate to the material - I could, it just, well, wasn’t that funny. This show could have been cut down 20 mins and would not have lost anything by it. The warm up act was a 5/10. Would it rush back to see Daniel Sloss, no; did I enjoy my night, sure.

    Great comedy, middling venue

by Ben on 5/6/24Paramount Theatre - Denver

The microphone started hissing 2/3rds through the set. I've seen other venues come and replace the microphone when that happens, but we just had to listen to a very sibilant set.

    Can’t? More like “Cap”

by ShellBeeRose on 5/4/24Paramount Theatre - Denver

Daniel Sloss ducking killed it. I have always had a major appreciation for his ability to take audiences on a journey with his stand-up. From the first special I saw, SOCiO, I knew that Mr Sloss respected stand-up for the art form that it can be. Not many acknowledge that in the comedy world today, and as far as I can tell Sloss knows this. So imagine my surprise, when during his show, he talks about thinking he’s gone soft as a comedian since becoming a father. CAP! Sloss took us on an adventure, and literally told us that’s what he does. He informed us that comedians are supposed to grab an audiences hand and dance them through a minefield of the touchy and taboo, which is especially important in today’s social climate. I know this because he explained it to us. Now, I may be wrong, but I’ve always been of the mind set that if you have to explain a joke, it’s not funny. Yet somehow this man was able to turn an entire 2 hour stand-up into a coagulation of joke set-up, explanation, and trigger warnings (???) with such skill that the audience didn’t stop laughing or clapping unless he wanted it to. And there were times that he did. In true Daniel Sloss manner there were moments of tenderness that had an entire audience synchronized in emotion. Not an easy feat. Never the less, Sloss did it, and then brought us back to roaring laughter with ease. I left feeling like I’d learned so much, about society, about entertainment not only as an art-form but as a career, and about myself. When I was young and in my first classes for public speaking and drama, there was one lesson I learned that Mr. Sloss holds true to, “ if you can make them laugh, you can make them cry”. Thank you, Daniel, for doing what you do. You have by no means lost your edge, and I look forward to continuing to be a fan of yours. Oh! And Congratulations ;)
