DANCE GAVIN DANCE IN CONCERT:

Ever since its inception in 2005, post-hardcore outfit Dance Gavin Dance has been a wildly unpredictable band that's weathered several lineup changes, including more than a couple frontmen. However, fans will be delighted to find that the group's current roster is solid and they're more electrifying in concert than ever before. 2013 saw the addition of singer Tilian Pearson, whose high-pitched falsetto perfectly complements Jon Mess' screamo backing vocals. Guitarist and chief songwriter Will Swan's groovy yet technical riffs shine alongside Matt Mingus' precision drumming as the band roars through songs that borrow from hardcore, funk, soul, and hip hop. Their acrobatic instrumentation and quirky lyrics add up to rollicking live performances that'll have ticket buyers begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dance Gavin Dance was formed in Sacramento in 2005 by former members of Farewell Unknown and Ghost Runner On Third. The band self-released their debut EP, 2006's Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean, before inking a deal with Rise Records and releasing their 2007 full-length debut a;bi, Downtown Battle Mountain. Between 2008-2014 they released four more albums on Rise Records with a constantly fluctuating lineup that included former frontmen Kurt Travis and Jonny Craig. Their fifth album, 2013's Acceptance Speech, was the first album featuring vocalist Tilian Pearson, formerly of progressive rock outfit Tides Of Man. The band finished 2014 on a high note with a headlining tour of the US and recording sessions for their highly anticipated sixth studio album.

    Good show/ over priced beer

by Wiseharley on 10/1/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - Boston

Show was great but this venue has to have the most expensive drinks of any venue in Boston way more expensive then house of blues rock paradise and brighton music hall.

DGD has never disappointed. Seen them 14 times

by Mike Nard on 9/30/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - Boston

Openers were kinda weak, 2022 was much better in that regard, but DGD was awesome as usual! If I had to pick one thing it would have been to play more songs off jackpot juicer

    great

by alexis on 9/22/23The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

i think they chose absolutely great bands to open for them, SIM was the best by far, dgds stage presence was pretty good too, overall i think the whole concert was great, the venue doesn’t have enough space for the amount of tickets they’re allowed to sell, it’s just overcrowded which is just apart of being in the pit of a concert but i still think it was too many people

    BLESS THIS MESS

Great show in a packed house

by KK on 9/22/23The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

Performers did really well, but the venue was insanely crammed. Was almost impossible to make it to the restroom and the crowd was packed so close to the bars that you couldn’t even order a drink if you wanted to. Also the worst crowd I’ve dealt with of all the concerts I’ve been to. People kept shoving and being rude, but security did a pretty good job controlling things.

Honestly I didn’t go for Dance Gavin Dance. Not sure who they are. I went for SiM. They had an amazing show. Thinking about going to the Philly show, just to watch them play again.

    Amazing time

by Ash on 9/21/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Dance Gavin Dance KILLED IT. The lighting, the graphics on the screen. They never disappoint. Everything was on point truly. The staff at the Ritz.. amazing people. The security guards were a pleasure and super sweet. I normally find that security is not the nicest but not at the ritz. Great job!!

The ritz is too small for this band

by Logan on 9/21/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Band was great but the venue sold too many tickets/ doesnt have the space for them. Same issue as last time where people were literally spilled out to the smoking and lobby because they couldnt fit into the venue proper because of how tight it was.

Dgd tour along with SiM Rain City Drive And Self Destruction

by Jake on 9/21/23White Oak Music Hall - Pulse Power Stage on the Lawn - Houston

This was a wonderful line up. At first i didn't know about paying 50$ to see Dance Gavin Dance. Not knowing the other three bands in the line up it was a gamble, But seeing Dance Gavin Dance alone is worth 50$ in my opinion. Not only was DGD worth the 50$ alone, the 3 starters for dgd were AMAZING. SiM was such a great mix up, and it was there first international tour. Self Destruction isn't a very highly listened too band, but it's clear they can put on a hell of a show. That man can SCREAM. Glad DGD gave SiM, Rain City Drive, and Self Destruction extra exposure, they all deserve it. Self Destruction for a very unknown band had great CLEAR vocals, defiantly going to look into them. They are the definition of a concert band and not a studio band. Great clear vocals, DGD knows how to pick their lineups'. Rain City Drive, was my least favorite out of the whole line up but they put on a nice show with some pretty cool stunts. My girlfriend seemed to really like them, but they are alternative rock at a metal show, that's my only gripe (still worth). But it was an amazing experience. Would buy again and again. DGD IS ALWAYS WORTH THE MONEY! Great venue, just be prepared for the heat if its the outdoor venue. Lesser viewed shows will be inside. White Oak Music Hall is indoor and outdoor depending on the popularity and amount of tickets sold, be prepared to know that before buying tickets, especially in the summertime in Houston,Texas. 5 OUT OF 5 no doubt for venue/price. Hope this helps to anyone/everyone wanting to use this venue or especially listen to this specific tour & line-up. #HellaWorth P.S.: I'm not the type to write reviews let alone this long of a review. I might write one review a year if that helps say anything. Hope that helps too :D Enjoy my fellow music heads, Music is a great escape, especially if your listening to someone creating beautiful art lyricaly, along with guitar, bassist, drums, and all other musical instruments etc.. It's all art. DGD man, There is a reason SWAN (Their lead guitar) has his own "genre"called "Swan Core". He's so different from anyone else. Also for them to be able to perform knowing that their bassist Kurt died just a few months back and put on that well of a show is amazing. R.I.P. kurt

    Could have been great

by Alex on 9/19/23Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

on a technical level, DGD was very good but setlist was pretty mid and the crowd did not have good vibes. too many millennials holding on to teenage emotions. one of the bartenders tried denying me a cup of water. probably wont be seeing DGD again anytime soon

    A dream come true!

by Krysta on 9/19/23Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

Everything about this experience has been next level great! The ticket prices were very affordable, with ease of addition to my Apple wallet once the concert date arrived. Check in for the concert was a breeze with touch less check in. I’ve been a fan of DGD for nearly 16 years and this was my first time seeing them live! THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! My brain chemistry is forever altered after that show! Amazing show with spectacular openers at a super fun venue! A++++ experience overall!!

by Steve's reviews on 9/18/23Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

From start to finish an amazing lineup. The venue was also roomy and accommodating. As always DGD put on a great show! Worst part was when it was over!
