DAMIEN RICE IN CONCERT:

Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice began his career in 1991 with indie-rock band Juniper. After the group disbanded in 1998, Rice traveled around Europe for the next year before returning to Dublin to pursue a solo career. Over the course of 12-years Rice has released two full-length albums, two live recordings and an EP. He is best known for his 2002 debut O which was certified Gold in the U.S., selling approximately two million copies worldwide, and featuring the songs “Volcano,” “Cannonball,” and “Blower’s Daughter,” the central pieces of music in Mike Nichols’ Oscar-nominated film Closer. My Favourite Faded Fantasy is Rice’s first album in 8 years and was produced by Rick Rubin and Rice.

One of the very best singer/songwriters

by Joe P. on 1/26/19Orpheum Theatre - Boston

Damien has created an elite catalogue of ruminations on love lost and gained...mostly lost. I consider his work to be far above the drab, boring, soul-less drivel that is country, pop and rap today. Damien was in fine voice for his Boston show. Left out a few of his signature songs but he played a representative sampling from each of his albums. One down side, Damon has a habit of incongruously morphing into a cross between Hendrix and The Who. I don’t feel excessive volume and pulsating lights add anything to his performance. He’s just not that! Otherwise, a wonderful concert by an immense talent. Can’t wait until he comes around again!

    Damien Rice was amazing.

Damien rice was amazing. I appreciate the fact they stopped serving beer at the start of the show, it reduced interruptions and was much quieter than it usually is.

    A Night of Magic

    by C. L. on 1/26/19Orpheum Theatre - Boston

Delicate, powerful, quiet and beautiful - I loved this show! Damien alone with his guitar and piano dominated the stage with his amazing voice. Everything including the lighting was understated which gave the entire performance an ethereal feeling. Damien and his material really takes you to another place.

    Simply Mindblowing

by munkeymike on 6/30/16Southside Ballroom - Dallas

Just go see it. It is amazing to hear and see his raw talent. The dynamics of the show from the whispered lines to the deafening loops took me on an emotional roller coaster. From old favorites to new songs, each tune feels personal and real. Stage presence is confident but not cocky, witty but not wacky. There were moments where we all laughed and cheered and there were moments where there wasn't a dry eye in the room. Had the pleasure of spending a little time with him after the show and he seemed to be a really cool, humble guy. Fantastic show. I don't believe anyone in the audience was disappointed.

    Awe inspiring performance!!!!!!

by Roundtree on 11/14/15Civic Theatre - New Orleans

This was the first time I've seen Damien live and I can profess without hesitation that he is one of the most talented singer/songwriter/musian/artists I have ever seen. The performance was flawless. You could feel the emotion in every note, it was palpable! I was amazed at how, even with a full house of people, it could feel like such an intimate performance. He made it feel like he and a group of your closest friends were invited to a private show. The crowd participation was another impressive aspect of his commanding performance. His music touched my wife and I in the infancy of our relationship, and this was a birthday gift to her. We had an unforgettable night!

My Bubba was a great opening act, and then Damien Rice was amazing! He sang for almost 2 hours and had a 3 song encore. Civic theater is the perfect size, I'm always happy with the concerts there!

    Damien Rice Was Amazing!

by JJtex on 8/18/15South Side Ballroom - Dallas

This was my first time to see Damien Rice perform. I wasn't sure what to expect, or how his music would translate to a live performance. Well, it exceeded my wildest expectations! He was amazing! For a one-person show, it was filled with energy, passion and sound engineering that was incredible. I found it mesmerizing. If he was performing again the next night, I would have returned to see it again!

    Damien Rice is amazing!

by Spado1 on 8/17/15Revention Music Center - Houston

Damien Rice is an incredibly great performer. He writes great songs, he is an extremely talented guitar player as well as the other instruments he plays, and his vocals are amazing. I highly recommend catching his live performances if you get a chance. Unfortunately you may have to wait awhile since this was the last concert of his U.S. tour.

    Damien Rice was quite extraordinary

by Anonymous on 8/17/15Revention Music Center - Houston

It was wonderful, except for the boorish crowd behavior (why do so many fans have to yelp out and shout at the musician--as if he does not have a plan?) But Rice's music was extraordinary, and he being acoustic and unaccompanied for most of the concert was a treat, quite unexpected... It was too bad this was his final concert tour, and he should come to the States more often. But nexttime, start before 10:00 pm and do not have such a weak opening act.

    Bayou Place sucks

by robertjohnson on 8/17/15Revention Music Center - Houston

This venue is just terrible. After years and years of disappointments, I am done going there. The seats are tiny and way too close together. My second row seat was awful, I had to turn my head nearly 90 degrees just to see the music. Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Looking forward all I saw was a black curtain. And I was seat 7, not far from the aisle. It was ridiculous.

Rice a modern day Robert Burns

by Millerdebbie511 on 8/16/15South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Damien Rice is still one of the most talented singer/songwriter/musicians today. For a man whose lyrics reflect his attempts to work out his life issues, none can compare to the sheer poetry of Rice. His soulful delivery harkens back to his Irish roots and his poetic skill rife with similes metaphors imagery and allusions, compares to Ireland's darling, Robert Burns, who himself was no stranger to problems in the love department as both have lyrics that reflect a strong and heartfelt passion, but both also were not without their difficulties. Rice makes us feel and think, something that is missing from much of the current pop music available. Rice is a master performer who takes us on a journey and reveals his heart and lays it bare for all the world to see. Rices' natural charm and self deprecating humor and masterful delivery are highlighted by his playing four different instruments and incorporating a light show. I was mesmerized and sood in awe at Rice's musical and lyrical mastery. A great show from a great artist.

Quite simply: beautiful. Beautiful songs, sincere passion, and some humor. A man with a guitar making sounds ranging from acoustic and fragile to loud and looped and raging. Damien Rice poured out his soul on stage and was a quiet gentleman with his fans after the show. What music and performance should be.

Venue was horrible for the "intimate" setting he was trying to achieve with just him and his guitar. He played extremely quiet and it was hard to hear in the very back, which is where general admission was because of the seats he had reserved in the front. But he sounds just like his albums and hardly ever tours so I would recommend a fan go see him if possible.
