Dallas Mavericks History
The Mavericks joined the NBA as an expansion franchise in the 1980–81 season, becoming the league’s third team in Texas, joining the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. The Mavericks struggled in their inaugural season, but quickly improved.
Their win totals increased in each of their first four seasons. Led by Mark Aguirre, who became the franchise's first All-Star, they reached the playoffs for the first time in the 1983–84 season. The Mavericks went on to qualify for the playoffs for five consecutive seasons, culminating in a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 1987–88. They came within one win of the NBA Finals, losing to the Lakers in seven games.
Dallas struggled throughout the '90s, but a new era began when the Mavericks acquired Dirk Nowitzki in 1998. Ownership of the team was sold to Mark Cuban in January of 2000. Cuban immediately began to revitalize the franchise, building around a central trio of Nowitzki, point guard Steve Nash and wing Michael Finley. In Cuban's inaugural year owning the Mavericks, they made the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. This began a streak in which they qualified for the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons. In the 2011 NBA Finals, they defeated the Miami HEAT in six games to win the only championship in franchise history.
Nowitzki retired in 2019 and passed the torch to Luka Dončić, who led the Mavericks to three straight playoff berths, including the 2022 Western Conference Finals.

Extremely friendly and professional staff from the moment of walking through the door. Platinum level ticket Seating gave us access to uncrowded hallways, product taste testing and a beautiful, comfortable restaurant setting. Game breakers dancing and music and half time entertainment added to the enjoyment. Announcer kept up with the game action. And parking directly across the street made for easy in/out and very short walk.
The experience of a Mav game is great - but the team can be considered the Cowboys of Basketball following the game against the Cavaliers!!
Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has been incredibly exciting to watch. His skills and basketball IQ are beyond his years. It will indeed be thrilling to see him team up with Kyrie Irving when he returns from injury. Both players bring a unique style of play to the game, and their chemistry on the court will certainly make for an amazing season. The NBA is always full of surprises, and this duo has the potential to create some memorable moments.
We flew all the way from New Zealand to watch the Mavs play. Despite the result the stadium, energy, atmosphere and Dallas as a city did not disappoint. Stoked to tick off a bucket list opportunity. Thank you
I had so much fun! The whole experience was amazing.
Awesome and 5 star experience at the American Airlines Center
I have been coming to Dallas Mavericks game since 2002. They are always fun and exciting! American Airlines Center is my favorite arena. I always enjoy coming back to see the Mavs play.
I was very happy with my seats and I enjoyed getting to see my team play.
I was disappointed in the team’s lack of focus and energy during the first half. However, I was impressed with Luka’s leadership as he guided the team to almost pulling off a historic win!
Enjoy myself...I'd be a hater if I could say something bad about the best team in NBa history in my opinion. MFFL!! Long live #41!!
Experience was great overall but parking was horrible. Took 40 minutes to find parking, everywhere was “passes only” couldn’t find public parking
The game was great and an electric atmosphere with good customer service.
Great experience execpt for they made me wait for 20 minutes for cookiedough and then closed right in my face and never got it hence 4 stars.
Very nice arena and we enjoyed the game! However, the SEATS ARE TOO NARROW FOR MANY PEOPLE AND I'M NOT FAT BUT MY HUSBAND AND I COULD BARELY FIT IN WITH NO ELBOW ROOM EITHER ... THE CUP HOLDERS ON EACH CHAIR AND THE PADDING IS GREAT BUT IT IS JUST THE SIZE OF THE CHAIRS ... THEY ARE TOO NARROW.
Went on vacation to Dallas all the way from Costa Rica and was lucky enough to catch this game against the Bulls (the team I support) while I was there. The experience was great, we didn’t have problems finding our seats, and the view was pretty good. Our only problem was with parking, as we couldn’t scan the QR at the parking entrance, but we didn’t really know how it worked, so it probably was our fault. Overall, I really would recommend catching a Mavericks game if you happen to be in Dallas!
I’m going back lives my dream best seats ever! I would remember this for my life!
Always have a great time watching the Mavs at AAC.
Awesome first game experience!! Loved the transportation wagon wheel ride experience. The food could have been a bit better given the amount costs however definitely enjoyed the game, the seats view && free items!!
Everyone from the entrance was very nice and helpful. This was my boys first time attending a game & they had a blast!
