I love these guys!!!!!
Too bad Rap Reiplinger couldn't beat his demons. Because he should've been here for this show. Even Ed would agree. He was my favorite local comedian ever.
In my huna-budda days I would play the "Poi Dog" LP over & over. Those of you who know what an LP is really know what I'm talking about. James Grant Benson was no slouch either. My mom used to tell me stories about going to see Booga Booga & how those 3 together were real magic - "no comedians, not even on a national level, could touch that trio".
So go give 'um Ed on that night. Your 2 brothers are laughing along w/pride for you while looking down watching from that great comedy club in the sky.
Andy Bumatai's "High School Daze" & "All In The 'Ohana" also bring back great memories of a time of classic Hawaiian local comedy. Andy took the torch from Rap, keeping the people of Hawaii cracking up for decades, now. I saw him at the Sheraton a few years back , and he's still got it. His routine was still hilarious w/a witty style that can't be topped by any of the younger local boys - he's got impeccable timing. Andy & Rap are the best Hawaii's ever had to offer & we're blessed to have them remind us that life is not to be taken so seriously & we should learn to appreciate the sunny side of life more often like Andy still does & Rap should have done more often.
Long live Rap, & Andy. Also, Andy never stop what you're doing you keep the state of Hawaii giggling and smiling - but we do miss your nightly talk show - especially your opening monologues, minus your guitarists loud annoying chuckle of a laugh, nah jus' joking. "Ho you Andy Bumatai? Wow, I seen you on da radio!!!!" - remember that one?!!
