I still can't get over how good this show was. Cursive blew me away. They played the entire Ugly Organ album with songs from their other albums spliced in. John congleton and the nighty night and B- slang were also very impressive. Great lineup, great musicianship and great sound at the venue. Overall one of the best shows I have ever had the pleasure to see. Thank you.
Tim Kasher is always unforgettable and the show so amazing.
Once again, everybody's favorite Nebraskan played an amazing show, even going back into the Ugly Organ days and rocking the Record Bar with those sounds that got us through high school.
So basically Cursive puts on an amazing show. I have seen them twice before, but this was by far the best.
Curisve is awesome. great show, lots of fun. sound quality could have been better but it is a small club and very comfy.
What an amazing band to see! Also, the Social is just about the best place in Florida to see a show like this. I drove up from Fort Lauderdale to go to this show after seeing their double shows at the same venue earlier this year. Full of energy and playing a truly eclectic mix of their discography.. I recommend this show to anyone who has ever even heard of the band. If you're a fan, but haven't seen them live, you definitely should do yourself a favor and go.
Cursive's live show delivers everything you would expect from their albums and more. It's ironic that the example reviews on this form are all about Coldplay because I saw Coldplay the night before and was comparing the two shows as the Cursive night unfolded. Tim Kasher of Cursive spent an entire song planted in front of the mic and and he still put more emotion in to that one song than Chris Martin put into his entire show. Tim looks his audience in the eyes as he sings and connects everyone to experience the song. Surprisingly, they put no exceptional focus on "Mama, I'm Swollen" over other albums even though it was their first time stopping in Boston since its release. They played a fair sampling of their complete discography and do so with the utmost musicality across the board. Even when Cursive gets heavy their musical talent shines through.
Cursive was amazing. I've seen them 7 or 8 times (and the Good Life a good 4 or 5 in addition) and this show was handily among the best. Drawing heavily from "Domestica" and earlier works, as well as some newer material, Tim Kasher & crew came out swinging and did not let up. So glad not to have missed it, even if half of the sold out crowd was still in diapers for their first release.
Cursive's set proves to be an attempt to keep rock n roll alive. The pulse is strong.
It was outstanding. Tim Kasher is easily one of the most energetic guitarists/singers around. They put up a hell of a show playing probably around 16 or 17 songs. They closed with The Martyr and played songs mostly from their last 3 albums. Overall it was great.
I must say this is my second time seeing cursive. So i already knew somewhat what to expect. But this show was really amazing. They guys took real time taking classic hits like "the game of who needs who the worst" and "the recluse", and giving them a new spin. I was pretty smashed, so im sure i would of enjoyed it regardless. Anyway, can someone please post up the setlist if they have it. Awesome show.
i have seen Cursive many of times and everytime it just gets better and better. I just love the way they just don't talk their way through the show. they give you what you want which is music. If you have never seen them, you are really missing out. If you think you like Rock, pure, raw rock then you must see Cursive.
After such a long hiatus, you couldn't ask for more. I brought a friend who hadn't heard a single Cursive song and he had a great time as well.
overall the concert, which is usual for cursive, was incredible. they kept the set moving with flawless transistions from song to song. despite the fact they have an amazing new album out they played songs from old to new albums. Tim left everything out on the stage, really connected with the audiance and made it feel like a small story time gathering in which he confessed terrible and wonderful personal highs and lows. The sound was definitly there and loud. All instruments can be heard clearly and even felt. The addition of the trumpet player is fantastic even though I wished someone would fill in on cello. Basically I cannot recommend cursive enough to anyone. Their music is soul spoken and they have such a range of song genre. Amazing band.
They are amazing musicians and performers. It was worth the long drive.
The show was really great! Lighting and sound was good. The atmosphere of the venue was awesome. I would definitely recommend to others to see a show at the El Rey theatre
it was bangin'! i was up in the front, singing every word. never sweat so much in my LIFE! they played old and new. good combination. cursive is my all time favorite band! i think everyone should see them at least once in their lifetime!
I attempted to see Cursive almost seven years ago one October when they were playing at The Glasshouse in Pomona, but had an emergency and couldn't go. Ever since then, I always missed them when they played in my area. Now that I FINALLY got ot see them, I was surely not disappointed. The energy from the entire band was awesome. Their sound live is genuine and produced with ease. I would definitely suggest seeing them if you ever get the chance.
Good show. I bought two t-shirts and some buttons.
