CULTURE CLUB IN CONCERT:

Calling all karma chameleons: Culture Club is back on the road to promote their latest album Tribes, and fans across North America can relive the ‘80s as Boy George and company perform their classic new wave hits on tour. In concert Boy George remains as fierce a showman as ever, taking the stage with the same gender-bending makeup and outré fashion that made him a global ‘80s icon. Whether he’s bringing the drama on upbeat favorites like “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” or melting hearts with his coy croon on “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”, George always charms audiences with his soulful delivery, infectious dancing, and candid asides between songs. The band keeps pace beautifully, cranking out their signature brand of reggae-influenced new wave with an ease and funkiness that is sure to get fans grooving. Whether they’re performing solo or sharing the bill with fellow new wave icon Howard Jones, Culture Club always treat fans to a nostalgic and dance-worthy journey through some of the best sounds of the ‘80s.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Culture Club was formed in London in the early ‘80s by Boy George, an androgynous club kid who had previously sang with legendary new wave outfit Bow Wow Wow. Calling themselves Culture Club as a nod to their diverse cultural backgrounds, the band made their debut in 1982 with the album Kissing to be Clever. Though the album’s first two singles failed to make much of a mark, third single “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” topped charts around the world, catapulting the band to international superstardom virtually overnight. Their 1983 sophomore album Colour by Numbers was an even bigger smash, blowing up charts around the globe with catchy hits like “Karma Chameleon” and earning the band a Grammy in 1984 for Best New Artist. Culture Club released two more albums in the mid-’80s to moderate success, but by 1986 Boy George’s struggles with addiction had pushed the band apart. They reunited in the late ‘90s and released the 1999 album Don’t Mind If I Do and toured for a stint, but George’s successful career as a DJ soon led to another hiatus. Following a few one-off shows in 2011, the band reunited in 2014 to record their sixth album Tribes -- a highly anticipated return that has fans dying to catch them on tour in support of the release.

Boy George and Culture Club....simply the best!!!!

by Steph7480 on 7/30/15Beacon Theatre - New York

Culture club did an amazing performance! Boy George has such a great spirit and energy on stage and of course he continues to sing beautifully and that has not changed. I love how he engaged in the audience and acknowledged everyone in the theater. I brought my seven-year-old daughter with me because she wanted to see him and the fact that he called her out from the stage and acknowledged her presence was everything to me and it truly warmed my heart. I hope that they continue performing and I look forward to seeing them again!!!

Flew to NYC from Minneapolis to see the show. It was well worth it. The band was in great form and Boy George sounded absolutely amazing. They played the hits as well as new songs from their upcoming album Tribes.

    Culture Club

by QueensBADMAMA on 7/30/15Beacon Theatre - New York

Theatre sent an email stressing start time as 8:00 p.m. - show didn't start until 8:30 p.m. Culture Club was entertaining and performed their popular songs (some of which George sadly just can't perform these days) but they did way too many new songs. Def got my monies worth since they performed for 2 hours. was glad there was no opening act. the theatre itself is a great place to see a show.

    Definitely worth the trip!

by Beachgirl247 on 7/30/15Beacon Theatre - New York

I did not expect to enjoy this concert as much as I did. Boy George is still charismatic, feisty, and even funny. I especially enjoyed the throw back videos playing on the screen behind the band. It really took me back to a different place in time. Boy George came out from one of his numerous costume changes with an outrageous headdress and told someone sitting up in front that he had to do it because he didn't want to be "outdone" by someone in the audience. Classic!

Culture Club still has the karma!

by Scooby on 7/30/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Boy George, Jon, Mikey and Roy still got it - they put on a really wonderful show. Boy seems to have thrown away his addictive past in favor of being very engaged with the audience and more relaxed in his view on life. Although it was obvious the band wasn't quite used to playing with each other, they still sounded amazing and seemed to be having such a great time. It was a great show with most of the hits an lots of great new songs. Don't miss it if it comes to your town.

    Culture Club is Back!!!

by CultureClubbed on 7/29/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Nostalgia wrapped in excitement! As a long time fan of Culture Club and having attended a few other "comeback" tours, I can say without a doubt that this was the best concert of them I have seen. Boy George had an aura of happiness that showed in his great and emotional vocals, The band played amazingly and they all seemed very content to be performing back together again. Great production, the only drawback was the lack of video screens complementing the performance, as they had in Los Angeles, Aside from hearing some great songs of their upcoming album "Tribes", there is always that "time machine" feeling when they played their best known hits that transport the long time fan to times long gone, and in my case, the years of my adolescence. Exhilarating and nostalgic!!!! Thank you boys for all the emotion!!! Welcome back!!!

    Culture Club

    by CBM2013 on 7/29/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Great show with the return of Boy George and Culture Club to the Bay Area. Greek Theatre was a nice venue and had 6th row seats. Good mixture of the classics, new songs, and covers. Boy George is still quite the entertainer and though his voice was a little shaky in the beginning, it was better as the show went along. He has a good rapport with the audience and wasn't too shy about showing off his costume changes.

    Good music - great nostalgia

by PotreroHillSoapy on 7/29/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I spent a lot of happy hours listing to Culture Club once upon a time. I liked the music. I also appreciated that Boy George was out in front as a gay artist without much company. He's no longer exactly a "boy," but he and the group still make good music and provided a very good time last Friday. Also ,drifting back to my past pleasures with Culture Club gave the evening an extra dimension. Finally, the Greek Theater is a great place for a concert.

Culture Club sounded amazing. Boy George was interactive with the audience and was brilliant. Loved this band back in 1983 and I still love this band today. The venue is awesome, I always have a great experience at the Greek.

    All the hits and more!

by yrngtmr on 7/28/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

With some 'old school' bands, you end up hearing all of their new stuff that they want to expose you to, with a smattering of their hits. Culture Club did the opposite - played all of the great songs and tossed in just a couple of their new songs - which were really good!! Boy George's voice started out sounding a little strained and definitely not as strong as in their heyday, but as the night went on, he got better and better. Roy Hay looked like he was having a blast, which just fueled the crowd even more. Great show - highly recommended!!

    The Boy was great!

    by Brendag69 on 7/28/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I've been waiting since I was 12 years old to see culture club. I am 46 now. For a number of reasons up until I was 46 either they had to cancel or I was too far away or I was not available to go to the show. But I've been such a huge fan forever. I even went to London to see them and with no avail could not make it happen. It meant the world to me to see the concert and everything was exactly how I expected it to be. Boy George was amazing witty funny and just a huge talent. he played all the songs that I was hoping for and then some. He even played the song that I didn't think you play called victims. It was my favorite when I was 15 . It was hard to sit through it because I was crying tears of happiness. Overall it was a wonderful show and I'm very grateful to have seen him I wish I could've met him someday.

Boy George is a Jewel and Culture Club is Fabulous

by EllaSaint on 7/28/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Boy George is ever evolving and has lost nothing. He sang his heart out for two solid hours. He sang many of his old songs and he sang them beautifully. he sang several new songs and they were purely perfect - he is older and wiser and it shows. He entertained us in every way. This was the best live concert I have attended. I highly recommend it.

    Culture Club was Mesmerizing!

by ExtremeGreen on 7/28/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Boy George and Culture Club are like fine wine - they just get better with age. At 54, George's vocals have naturally changed. His mature, huskier voice was likely a surprise for those who haven't heard him since their heyday, but he still pulled off all their timeless songs with heart and soul. George engaged with the audience throughout the night with his amazing wit and charm, which are still as strong as ever. The two-hour, 20-song set was energetic, passionate, and nostalgic. I stood the entire night and wish I could follow them on the rest of their tour. They were absolutely fantastic!

    blinded by the light

    by jolliff44 on 7/28/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Flood lights and other stage lighting pointed strait at the audience - hurt our eyes. gave my wife a headache. Lighting for a show is to illuminate the performers and not the audience. The sound at the show was great.
