Creighton Bluejays Women’s Basketball History
The Creighton University women’s basketball team competed independently from its founding in 1973 to 1992, when the Bluejays joined the Missouri Valley Conference. As of 2013, Creighton has been a member of the Big East Conference and the team claimed their first regular season title in 2017. Among the Bluejays’ 11 NCAA tournament appearances, the team has logged seven Second Round runs and one trip to the Elite Eight in 2022. Additionally, the Creighton women’s basketball program has participated in the Women's National Invitation Tournament eight times, winning the championship in 2004. Head coach Jim Flanery joined the team in 2002.

Creighton Bluejays at D.J. Sokol Arena
The Creighton Bluejays women’s basketball team plays at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. Opened in 2009, the venue is located on the Creighton University campus as part of the larger Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center. At maximum capacity, D.J. Sokol Arena seats approximately 2,950 to 3,000 fans. The facility’s name derives from Creighton Board of Trustees member Dave Sokol and his wife Peggy, whose son D.J. died from Hodgkin’s disease in 1999. After a playing court update in 2018, the venue underwent a larger renovation in 2025 that upgraded the playing court once again while installing new LED lighting across the arena, an expanded northside scoreboard and additional video boards on the south end. Aside from the women’s basketball program, D.J. Sokol Arena also hosts the Creighton women’s volleyball team.

I bought tickets for row three under the hoop. So, I thought we were going to be close to floor. It turns out there were lettered seats and a student section in front of us. So, I was a little disappointed that we weren't closer to the court.
What an incredible game between Creighton and UConn! The energy was electric, and both teams put on a fantastic show. Paige Bueckers was absolutely amazing to watch—she completely turned the heat up in the second half and showcased why she’s one of the best in the game. Her skill, court vision, and clutch plays were nothing short of breathtaking. Creighton played with heart and grit, making it a competitive and exciting matchup, but Paige’s leadership and performance really sealed the deal for UConn. Games like this remind you why women’s college basketball is so thrilling. A must-watch for any basketball fan!
We recently got tickets to see the UConn/Creighton womens basketball game at DJ Sokol Arena. Couldn’t have had a better time. The venue was great. Entry and getting to our seats was easy. I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the place. There was lots of knee room at our seats. This venue is just a nice, clean, bright arena and a great place to see a game.
The Creighton girls are always fun to go watch. They are a competitive team who also give back to the fans. My daughter and i love our time ar the games.

Ryan Center/Sokol Arena is a GREAT place to watch wonen's basketball. Fans and students were great and game was entertaining between Nebraska and Creighton.
For a Christmas present my daughter asked if we could all as a family go to a College basketball game. So I got us tickets to the Creighton Girls game. Wow was it awesome. She is in 7th grade and plays center on her team and has a great love for the sport. This turned out to be an experience that she will never forget. Tickets were great the environment was great and the girls won. Overall best family day in a very long time. GO CREIGHTON BLUEJAYS!
Close game between Creighton and Missouri State, until Creighton pulled away late. Good crowd as well.

My daughter and I tremendously enjoyed the game. It was close, the Bluejays won and it was entertaining, exciting, exhilerating!
