About

CONOR OBERST IN CONCERT:

Indie rock posterboy Conor Oberst may have outgrown the wunderkind label of his early days, but maturity has done nothing to diminish the wonder in his music. Fans of Oberst's many projects — Bright Eyes,  Desaparecidos, the Mystic Valley Band — have found  much to love in his recent solo work,  and the prolific singer covers a bit of everything at his discography-spanning live shows. Whether he's performing stripped down arrangements with just a guitar or adding bombast to his compositions with backing musicians and electronics, Oberst delivers the same heartfelt, emotional  performances he's become known for. In support of the 2014 release of Upside Down Mountain, Oberst will embark on a series of highly anticipated US tour dates with special guest Dawes.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Oberst was involved in choir and other musical activities during high school. By age 13, he had self-released a cassette album called Water, which he recorded in the family home's basement with his father's four track recorder.  The label Oberst and his brother founded for the release would become venerated indie label Saddle Creek Records, which they still own and operate today with a roster of bands that includes Cursive and Tokyo Police Club. After several early projects, the precocious young Oberst hit his stride with Bright Eyes, one of the most acclaimed indie bands of the '00s. Alongside his work with the band, Oberst has continued to release solo material, with 2014's Upside Down Mountain marking his ninth solo album.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Not only did he play many old songs that I know and love, he also spoke to the crowd, made us laugh, and mesmerized us with his talent and artistry."

"His performance was one I'll never forget. He was so coherent and raw...loved that he actually spoke to the crowd and was social."
"Mindblowing! Conor was so much fun, played songs from most of his discography"

    Uber Conor Upclose

by FrancisD on 11/21/12Warner Theatre - Washington

What a venue to see such a performer. Seeing an all-encompassing selection from his past now that he is a ripe old man of 32. Hearing fresh life brought into some old classics makes you realize his range.

    Danie and Conor...winning combo!

by LilianJane on 11/18/12Warner Theatre - Washington

I could hardly believe Daniel Johnston was playing relatively locally. So thankful Conor brought him on tour! His performance was one I'll never forget. I've seen Conor Oberst twice and this was by far the absolute best!!! He was so coherent and raw...loved that he actually spoke to the crowd and was social. I will never forget this night!

    Deep and Uplifting

by Bthekiller on 11/17/12Warner Theatre - Washington

Conor Oberst is a complex man who has made it to 32 years of age despite immense emotional struggles (and an overdose) often experienced by gifted people. Although many of the songs are dark, there are bold affirmations that going Hemmingway's way my not be the best choice. Personally, Mr. Oberst has helped me to deal with the death, an apparent overdose, of the person I loved more than anyone on this planet. The show was made especially meaningful because I stood next to a young man who had survived the demons of heroin. I felt the presence of my departed friend as we stood together singing, "It takes one to know one, kid I think you've got it bad."

    good show

by clairv1 on 10/8/12The Fox Theater - Pomona - Pomona

The show was good! Lots of energy on stage! I had hoped that Jenny Lewis and Conor would have played a couple songs together. She did back up vocals on a couple songs which was cool. I liked the song list. He played a lot of Bright Eye's songs and MVB songs. I loved the venue. not too big, not too small.

Conor and Jenny... can't get better than that.

by JadeLeven7 on 10/7/12The Fox Theater - Pomona - Pomona

Love them both. Totally worth standing for 5 hours straight. Conor had a lot of inspiring things to say. Sound was better for Jenny's set than it was for Conor's.

    Conor has the coolest friends.

by SantisTickets on 10/6/12The Fox Theater - Pomona - Pomona

It truly beat any bright eyes concert I've been to. He was so happy and in such a great mood. All the people he brought with him only made it better since all of Mystic valley band made an awesome appearance playing all their amazing music.

Conor Oberst has been one of my favorite artists since I was 17, so it was absolutely surreal to see him in person. The show was an emotional roller coaster, ups and downs in the set list (mostly his new work) kept it feeling fresh for the entire hour and a half he played for. There were definitely no lulls in the intensity of his performance, just transitions from hard to soft and then back again. Felt like 15 minutes, checked my phone and it was an hour later.

They needed to turn up the volume for Jenny's set!

by facepaila on 10/6/12The Fox Theater - Pomona - Pomona

It was overall a fun show. But I couldn't understand why the volume for Jenny's set was so low. I could literally hear the conversations of the people around me. It was a strange to me. I love to feel the bass of the music in my feet and in my heart. I could feel it in Conor's set.

    Excellent Intimate Show

by EManLA on 10/1/12Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Opening act was Simone Felice, intense, raw. sensitive, intelligent, beautiful, funny, delicate, are just a few adjectives I can find to describe him and also his music. Great opening act! Conor played for almost 2 hours to a full house, I can describe the show with one word AWESOME, no need to get hyper intellectual in describing one of the most prolific song writers alive today. The show had a magically intimate feeling, the sound was superb and all the musical guest Conor had with him, did an amazing job accompanying him where ever he went. It was a little bit unclear if Conor improvised as he went, but it looked like hi might have a couple of times, not to any dismay of the audience. If I would raise one negative issue, it would lie with some audience members who so obviously do not have any tact or etiquette, when it comes to wanting to be heard during a quiet acoustic set, seriously irritating. Not to mention the amateur photographers who actually think a flash on a smart phone will make a better picture, it's does nothing besides annoy everyone in the audience and the artists on stage.

Conor Oberst is an extremely talented man-- and it's lovely to hear his music stripped down with little accessories added back-- different artists joining to sing back up or play guitar or piano or xylophone--- this was one of the best shows I've seen in a while-- and I go to a lot of shows...

    Great!

by jjstankowicz on 9/30/12Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

I'm a big Bright Eyes fan, so of course couldn't pass this concert by. I was a little concerned about him being band-less, but almost all the songs were great with Conor on guitar or piano, and an occasional trumpet, bass, or piano accompaniment. Even my girlfriend, who's not a really big fan, was awed by what a great performance it was.

    Conor Oberst at The Fitz

by Moder on 9/27/12Fitzgerald Theater - St Paul

After seeing Conor perform some of his stuff solo on the East Coast, I was prepared for a full-length stripped down performance. It was all that. We had balcony seats that offered an amazing sound and a pretty good view. From The Big Picture to Milk Thistle Conor created a separate reality for me. I laughed out loud when he began playing Arienette, but was in tears by the end of the song. Same for Amy in The White Coat. Conor tore it up!!! I didnt expect Map Of The World, and my god Laura's vocals!!! Shell Games was a big surprise too.

Conor Oberst played a serious variety of songs, with many coming from albums made with Bright Eyes, and several from the Mystic Valley Band and Monsters of Folk.
