About

The CONCACAF Gold Cup™ is the biennial nations championship for North and Central America and the Caribbean, and is the confederation's premier event. The Gold Cup evolved from a series of championships in the region dating back to 1941. It began in its current structure in 1991. At times, the CONCACAF championship also served as a qualifier for the World Cup, but since its inception, the Gold Cup has been an independent championship irrespective of other tournaments. However, once every four years, the winner of the Gold Cup serves as the region's entrant to the FIFA Confederations Cup. Initially an eight-team event, the Gold Cup finals have grown into a 12-nation championship with countries qualifying from the three regions of CONCACAF, North America, Central America (UNCAF) and the Caribbean (Caribbean Football Union). The tournament features the best players from the region, and between 1996- 2005 included guest teams from South America, Africa and Asia.
The United States and Mexico have each won four Gold Cup titles with Canada claiming the one other crown. From a relatively modest 40,000 that witnessed the first Gold Cup final at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1991, when the United States outlasted Honduras on penalties 4:3, the Gold Cup has grown to the region's most anticipated soccer event, routinely drawing a capacity crowds.

The games were great, the fans were emotional and enthusiastic, the venue was clean and orderly, and getting out of the parking lot was easy. All in all, a great experience that i would have to recommend to any soccer fan out there.

It was all about El Salvador

by PleasantlySurprised on 7/4/09The Home Depot Center - Carson

El Salvador fans everywhere... what a spectacle. The energy from the crowd was hugely impressive in this intimate stadium (not a bad seat in the house!). $20 parking and $9 per beer was extortion really, but the event and the fans were fantastic. I'd go again... though I might research cheaper parking first. Drinking beer before going into the park to save money is also recommended.

Recommend for the soccer fan. It was like leaving the country for a game, but it was only 30 min away. Anybody who appreciates the passion and unification that soccer entails should attend gold cup event.

Excellent, awesome, superb... There so many glamorous adjectives that i could use, but i am simply speechless. I loved the games, the venue, the atmosphere. It was completely worth it. I would buy tickets for this kind of event in a heart beat. Of course I am talking about the most beloved game in the whole entire world, "SOCCER".

Canada v. Jamaica, Costa Rica v. El Salvador

by Girlyserendipity on 7/4/09The Home Depot Center - Carson

I love seeing so many Salvadorians supporting their team. The support and pride was amazing. However I did hate the vulgarity, fights, and destruction they were causing. I am Salvadorian and proud, but was embarrassed by the cursing and throwing of objects. Aside from that the game was great, the stadium was full of fans, and the players were courteous.

Great time at Concacaf Gold Cup

by intanfu on 7/4/09The Home Depot Center - Carson

To start off, 2 matches per one ticket. How great is that. The great thing about futball/soccer in Los Angeles, is it can be a home game for nearly any Latin American team. I was not lucky enough to see the US play, but very thrilled to experience a match between El Salvador and Costa Rica. It looked like about 80% or more of the fans were there for El Salvador, including myself. The energy of the crowd was amazing. Even during the first match between Jamaica and Canada, the crowd (primarily El Salvadorian) were very into the match and made a lot of noise. The venue itself was very nice. My first time to the Home Depot Center. I was able to acquire a very good seat at midfield.

    Salva-Ticos soccer game

by Salvita22 on 7/4/09The Home Depot Center - Carson

The spectacle and organization were very good, good games and specially I am happy because me team won. Perhaps a little more internal security and streets traffic control with police officers, would help to easy the flow going in and out of the premisses and sorrounding areas. But the over all is a positive 9; I will recomende it to my friends and I will be back when another good game is schedule. Thanks.

Concacaf Gold Cup Jamaica vs. Canada, El Salvador

by magnabruin on 7/4/09The Home Depot Center - Carson

The venue is beautiful. The stadium is very comfortable and the seats I got were perfect. The two games entertained but the El Salvador vs.. Costa Rica game was by far the best. The action was non stop and the we did not know the winner of the game until the last ten minutes. I would go again to see another Gold Cup game, unfortunately this was the only such a game scheduled at the Home Depot.
