I don't remember the ticket site mentioning that women couldn't bring in their purses. It would be a good idea to emphasize that when purchasing tickets OR have some clear backpacks or satchels for sale at the door.
The seating was nice, the refreshments were nice. I wasn't familiar with the entertainment but it was nice to see a community effort.
Have you all considered advertising a "Girl Scout and Boy Scout" night and advertising through their central offices and/or their local Service Units? This would be a great community effort. You could offer $5 off tickets for groups of 10 or larger. This would encourage troops AND their families to attend.

In addition, have you considered having an "Educators Weekend"?! Your venue is a great affordable way for Educators to wind down on the weekends (I know-I am an educator : ). You could advertise 1 or 2 games that local Educators (Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County Schools, Fayette County Schools, Henry County Schools, DeKalb County Schools, ect. and offer $5 off tickets)
