I never considered myself a huge fan of Men at Work; so, when I saw Colin Hay's tour coming around here to New England, my curiosity got the best of me and I'm sure glad it did.
Colin Hay....the voice of Men at Work put on a show that will make anyone who has enjoyed his big hits on the radio; remember back to less complicated days that were the beginnings of the MTV generation, known as the early 80's.
His solo career is much longer than his time spent in Men at Work; and from that journey has resulted in a long list of amazing music that made for one unforgettable night. Hits like "Beautiful World", "Love is Innocent", and "Waiting for my Real Life to Begin" were all there along with some songs not familiar; yet, felt so right.
Showcase Live! down in Foxboro hosted the evening with a new building, smart decor and a tasty dinner menu that made the evening enjoyable from start to finish.
I was a little surprised by his casual appearance; all gruff and weary looking from a long tour. But, as soon as he opened his mouth and started to sing, "Down by the sea"
I knew I was in for a great evening.
He spent the night onstage with his band weaving a mixture of silly stories, insights into other songwriters, and a long string of beautiful music that had the whole place hanging on his every word.
Each song came with a flurry of applause and whistles that got even louder when he played his old songs from Men at Work.
The musical journey Colin Hay took us on that night will be part of my memories for a long time to come.
Thanks Colin for one hell of a night!
